'P.S. I Love You' Soundtrack Includes James Blunt, Paolo Nutini, The Academy Is, More
Atlantic Records has announced the forthcoming release of P.S. I Love You - Music From The Motion Picture, the original motion picture soundtrack to the Warner Bros. Pictures/Alcon Entertainment romantic comedy/drama. Due in stores on December 4th, the album features tracks from a diverse range of top artists, including James Blunt, Paolo Nutini, and the one-and-only Pogues. P.S. I Love You, the film, is slated to open in theaters nationwide on December 21st.
P.S. I Love You - Music From The Motion Picture is highlighted by Same Mistake, the second single from James Blunts acclaimed new Atlantic album, All The Lost Souls. Same Mistake will be featured in the upcoming ad campaign heralding the release of P.S. I Love You, with the Grammy-nominated troubadour slated to perform the song on a number of high-profile TV programs. The appearances began on November 20th with a visit to CBS Late Show with David Letterman, followed on November 23rd by a morning performance on the syndicated Live with Regis and Kelly. Blunt will then appear on the December 11th installment of ABCs The View, as well as on CBS annual seasonal celebration, A Home For The Holidays, slated for broadcast on December 21st.
P.S. I Love You - Music From The Motion Picture also includes tracks from such acclaimed singer/songwriters as Nellie McKay, Chuck Prophet, and Lava/Atlantics own Toby Lightman, as well as from modern rock outfits like Fueled By Ramen recording group The Academy Is, and Atlantic recording group Needtobreathe. The soundtrack also includes an excerpt from the films score, composed by John Powell (The Bourne Ultimatum, Happy Feet).
In addition, P.S. I Love You - Music From The Motion Picture features exclusive tracks from a pair of outstanding new Atlantic singer/songwriters: Fortress from the Los Angeles-based Hope, and Carousel from Irelands award-winning Laura Izibor, who wrote the song especially for the film. The debut albums from both artists are slated for release in 2008 and promise to be among the years most acclaimed premieres.
Based on the best-selling novel by Cecelia Ahern, P.S. I Love You stars two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank as Holly Kennedy, beautiful, smart, and married to the love of her lifea passionate, funny and impetuous Irishman named Gerry (Gerard Butler). So when Gerrys life is taken by an illness, it takes the life out of Holly. The only one who can help her is the person who is no longer there. Nobody knows Holly better than Gerry. So its a good thing he planned ahead.
Before he died, Gerry wrote Holly a series of letters that will guide her, not only through her grief but in rediscovering herself. The first message arrives on Hollys 30th birthday in the form of a cake and, to her utter shock, a tape recording from Gerry, who proceeds to order her to get out and celebrate herself. In the weeks and months that follow, more letters from Gerry are delivered in surprising ways, each sending her on a new adventure and each signing off in the same way: P.S. I Love You.
Hollys mother (Kathy Bates) and best friends, Sharon (Gina Gershon) and Denise (Lisa Kudrow), begin to worry that Gerrys letters are keeping Holly tied to the past, but, in fact, each letter is pushing her further into a new future.
With Gerrys words as her guide, Holly embarks on a touching, exciting and often hilarious journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life.
P.S. I Love You is produced by Wendy Finerman, Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, and Molly Smith; and written and directed by Richard LaGravenese (Freedom Writers, The Bridges of Madison County).

While I am terribly disappointed that none of Gerry's self-sung songs are on it I figure hey, there's no Harry Connick, Jr. on it either and he is more well known as a singer than Gerry is. It's not unusual for a soundtrack album to not include songs actually sung as part of the movie. I'll buy the soundtrack, I'm a big fan of James Blunt (I already have his track on a promo CD) and a friend of mine is a big Flogging Molly fan. I do think it was a huge mistake on Warner Brothers part not to include at least ONE of Gerry's songs on the soundtrack. They KNOW how devoted we fans are - they should have thrown us at least one song.
But I loved the description of the character Gerry as "funny, passionate and impetuous". How much do you want to bet that describes the REAL Gerry BUTLER as well? We KNOW he is funny and of COURSE he is passionate and I imagine he can be pretty impetuous from time to time too. I've been left sighing a lot over the past few days, wondering WHY this man does to me what he does!

Hi 'Susan~Sporran", I agree with everything you said about at least one Gerry song. And that description of Gerry is so on track. I think that is why He doesn't want to be compartmentalized in one type of role. He has said that He does not want to be just an action hero, He wants to do a variety of characters. He is so awesome I can see why you feel the way you do. I have been doing the sighing for 11 years. He has such a way about Him that makes you feel safe and cared for. The person that gets Him is one lucky person. I know He will be an awesome life partner. Too bad I"m so old, I'd be after that Man's life 'til death did us part!!!!! My kids think I'm nuts, but, hey, I could be sitting in a bar drinking or picking up guys or any of a number of other not so good things. But I choose to Love Gerry and His acting. So I seek out all the movies that I can afford and when they come, I sit in my 'Gnome Home' watching Gerry movies and doing school work for my sculpture class.
I"m lookimg forward to the day when I can do a small sculpture of Gerry as "King Leonidas" to give to Him to show how much we all love and appreciate Him.
Thanks for everything, Joanna
