Peigimccann 5090 Trees in Gerry's Groves!
Since October of 2006, we have raised £25,177 or $39,949 for a grand total of 5028 trees!
Our goal this year is to bring Gerard’s Grove which is still the biggest grove yet sponsored in the Caledonian Forest
to 5000 trees and to further increase the sizes of the Phantom Phorest (thank-you Redux & Phantom Pheast participants!) and the Robert Burns Grove.
Our totals so far:
Gerard's Grove - 3664 trees

On May 16, names from among those who donate to either Gerard's Grove, the Phantom Phorest
or the Robert Burns grove between midnight March 14 and midnight May 15, 2012 will be chosen randomly
by the staff at Trees for Life to win one of our many donated prizes.

Trees for Life is reforesting an enormous area of the Highlands from Glen Affric to Glen Moriston west of Loch Ness in the Heart of the Highlands. The trees we donate are planted each fall and spring where they are needed most at the time, so in fact Gerry has many "groves". I've visited two of the locations where his trees are, Glen Moriston and Corrimony, both incredibly beautiful places - it's so heartening to see the little trees thriving, their survival rate is nothing short of miraculous!
Due to years of historical exploitation, only 1% of Scotland's original forest remains. The Highlands in particular have been described as a 'wet desert' as a result of the centuries of exploitation that have reduced them to their present impoverished and barren condition. The reforestation of the Highlands is an ongoing effort by Trees for Life and other groups. Their goal is to eventually connect the groves that are being planted throughout the western Highlands to bring back the great forest ecosystem that once covered much of Scotland. Bringing back the trees will help to repair this devastated ecosystem so that other species may also return. Last year beavers and wild boar were re-introduced to Scotland under controlled circumstances, and it is hoped that eventually moose, lynx, bears and wolves that were driven out centuries ago will be able to return to a viable habitat.
With your help we can bring back these forests of birch, Scots pine, and rowan along with the animals that depend upon them.
