tilzey
Good grief, we don't even have a Neil smilie! Well, that's probably because there isn't much for Neil to smile about, after the very beginning of the film. :boink:

Swansong
Well since there were virtually NO promotion efforts leading up the the *BIG* opening, and even Fandango was linking people the the WRONG bloody movie, what did TPTB expect? How are people going to go see a movie if it isn't promoted? Curiouser, and curiouser... Swannie
Debrasue
So essentially that means...if Gerry's fans weren't alerted and got together as a group...there would have only been 6 people in the theater....Hmmmm...your right Swann...curiouser & curiouser..... Ok..so I edited a 'potential' spoiler...but I never go into a movie without some idea of what it is about...if it's a mystery...I'm always looking for the clues...LOL! Now I'm going to be super examining the trailer!!!! And speculating my brains out!!! Edited July 28, 2007 by Debrasue

celadon2
I probably missed this somewhere but Why? wasn't this film promoted in the first place? I don't get it.....a movie is made...(lots of time, money and talent) and it's not promoted. Ok, it's going to be released on DVD, which I'm glad for but how does it go from post production to extremelylimited release to DVD? If I were one of the stars in this flick I'd be pissed.....what did they all work so hard for? Very confused about all this. Marianne

Marianne According to an article that appeared on GB.net, the DVD release date for Shattered is December 25. It appears that they bought the rights to the film with no intention of releasing it widely, but going directly to DVD! The rats! Suzie
moonglow
I think what their intention is to play it in theathers for a week..it's and Academy rule..they can vote for films playing in theaters for one week (I'm guessing there) and then put it out on DVD. I can tell you this, they had better not pull the same thing with 3:10 to Yuma, because picture the reaction about shattered, multiply that by 10 and it still won't come close. Seriously, why buy the movie, know it has a great cast and not only not promote it but just basically regale it to a a dvd release???
Dr. Em
I received this review from "Susan" in my e-mail today. She doesn't usually post, but gave permission for me to post it for her: Mr. Butler's character in "Shattered" is extremely complex, and he gave an outstanding performance using the whole range of his acting skills. He went from the self-assured businessman envied by other men (and obviously adored by the women around him) to the desperate, even groveling father trying to save his child and willing to kill in cold blood if necessary. At the beginning of the film, he was dressed in two stunning business suits and looked as though he had just stepped out of GQ. Later, he had on a leather jacket, T-shirt, sweater, and cords that mid-western suburban family men wear on weekends . He was clean-shaven, which meant one could see the whole of that classic Greek-god face and the much celebrated dimpled chin. Watching him run through the streets of Chicago was a heart-stopping sight. The many views of the city at night were especially breath-taking and made more so as a backdrop for him. I, too, have geat fear of heights, and in a scene at the top of a skyscaper, his vertigo terror truly became my own. Part of the mythology about Gerard Butler is that he BECOMES the characters he plays. His performance in this film surely supports that. The film has several twists at the end which experienced film-goers have all seen in one form or the other before, but I was truly surprised -- again and again. Aside from the obvious appeal of Mr. Butler, this is a first-rate set of performances and a gripping, entertaining film. It indeed deserves wide release. Debrasue
Movies are made all the time and never make it to the theaters....sometimes they clash with other movies by the same production companies....there are many reasons...and sometimes the actors know in advance that it won't be shown in theaters....it's just the way the movie industry works....it's just business...stockholders...stuff like that....you really do have to be a grounded and realistic person with a thick hide if you want to work in that industry...disappointments can happen anytime for any reason...Gerry has a lot of guts to be able to deal with that kind of atmosphere....Maybe it's a good thing Lionsgate picked it up at all...from what I've been reading...there weren't too many other offers....Lionsgate could be the savior of this film...even if it doesn't get wider distribution in theaters...it will at least go to DVD....sorry ...I like to think positive beyond reason sometimes..LOL! Excellent review Susan!!! Thanks for posting it Dr. Em!!! I waas hoping it would get good reviews...so far not disappointed! Have Mercy
I emailed National Amusements which is is movie mogul of my area in the US northeast This was their reply: "Thank you for contacting us. The booking of films depends on a number of variables including number of prints available and distributors requests. This film was a limited release in Miami, FL only on July 27th. We do not have any information on a wider release at this time. Thank you." Have Mercy
