Spot the Movie Star in Paisley

GB mention:

"Would we come back to Paisley for other projects? Absolutely. We have got a Robert Burns project coming up with Gerard Butler and we're hoping to shoot that in the middle of next year.

"A lot of that will be done in Ayrshire but we may come back to Paisley, which would be good for Gerard, a Buddie himself!"

SPOT THE MOVIE STAR IN PAISLEY Aug 3 2007

STARS of a big bucks movie were spotted strolling through Paisley yesterday as they wrapped up filming in the town's oldest bar.

Up and coming English lead actor Charlie Cox casually chatted with fellow screen-stars outside The Bull Inn – which has been transformed into a pub from 1950s London for a scene in new Brit-flick The Stone Of Destiny.

And actors Ciaron Kelly and Stephen McCole – who play students Gavin Vernon and Alan Stuart – were also seen outside the historic boozer surrounded by a squad of extras.

Crew members turned the New Street boozer into a film set and Buddies walking past were seen craning their necks in a bid to catch a glimpse of the famous faces.

The actors will now fly south to London later this week to continue shooting the movie after a week-long filming schedule in the town was completed yesterday at around 7pm.

Paisley Abbey and other scenes from the area are set to appear in the £6million film – being billed as an adventure comedy– when it hits the big screens next year.

Producer Andrew Boswell yesterday said Paisley could have a bright future in the film industry.

"We have really enjoyed filming in Paisley," he beamed. "We have got a really good crew and a terrific cast and have had great locations to film in.

"It's been a very smooth – yet hectic – shoot and we are delighted with what we have got and we now head to London at the end of this week in good spirits.

The Stone Of Destiny movie centres on the real-life story of the daring bid by four Glasgow University students to steal the medieval coronation stone from Westminster Abbey on Christmas Day, 1950, sparking an international search.

The scenes shot in the Bull Inn in New Street involve the students last planning meeting before their daring heist.

Legendary director Charlie Martin Smith – who starred in the 1987 Oscar winning movie, The Untouchables – popped in for a pint to check out the location earlier this year and yesterday he got his hands on the location for the first time.

Andrew added: "Yesterday was our last day of shooting in Paisley. We were at the Abbey for five days as we shot it as a double for Westminster and spent just one day in the pub.

"The Bull Inn is doubling as a pub in London and the dressing that we have had to do to the interior to make it look like a bar from 57-years ago has been minimal.

"We probably saw 60 pubs in the Glasgow and the Paisley area but this was by far the best. As far as I know Craig MacFadyen, the landlord, and the other guys who run it were happy to have us and we were delighted that they let us in because we had trouble finding a suitable double for the London pub scene."

Andrew paid tribute to the welcome the cast and crew have received from Buddies.

He said: "A lot of the filming has been at night so that has minimalised the number of spectators we have seen.

"However, we did one shot over the river by the Abbey and we had quite a crowd watching on from across the river and they were all really enthusiastic."

Thanks a lot for this. It seems very positive for Burns. Shooting the movie next summer would fit in nicely for the major Burns anniversary in January 2009, an ideal time for the movie to be released. This is one to watch.

I dont want to get my hopes up too far but this does sound promising. If it is true there will be a lot of VERRA happy Tarts and Tartans doing cheers from the hillsides of the US clear over to Scotland...and I hope a verra happy Gerry as Robert Burns in the not so far away future. I must say its not just the US fans but all the fans around the world that have been hoping for this project to come into being......Lets keep the faith....

Hey Ladies,

I was in Paisley last Thursday for the GB convention and we saw a lot of workers busy around the Abbey....

We did not know what was going on but found out later they were getting it ready for a film.

We were surprised that Gerry is still pretty unknown in Paisley. Our first stop was the tourist information office

and the lady had no idea who he was. I had one of my Phantom shirts on and flashed her. We told her

to expect some more Gerry fans to be hitting the city and urged her to watch The Phantom....... :tantrum:

This is great!! :claphands: I've been waiting for some sign that "Robert Burns" is moving forward and this is it. I just wonder how Gerry is going to fit it in. He has so many movies coming up. I hope he doesn't get burned out (no pun intended). I want him to be fresh and rested for this role. He is just so right for it. Can't wait to see it. Right now my husband and I are planning a trip to Scotland mid summer of 2008. Wouldn't it be great if he were filming this movie at that time in Ayrshire, where I will be visiting one of my Scottish ancestral homes. Oh be still my heart. :inlove:

I'm sure the GALS and PALS will be happy as well!

Tarts, Tartans, Gals, Pals, Angels........why don't we just use the word fans.

Cheers!

Burns is definately his heart's project. He's held that script and waited so long. I know he will do a terrific soul moving performance. I also hope he gets a month to rest up before he sails into it. I worry he might be heaping too many movies in a row upon himself. Seeing all these great scripts coming at him after 300, he sure seems to be moving from one movie right to the next. He may still have a Watchman part, Game, Capone--he's cutting it pretty close one after the other. I don't want him to burn out, either! Hope he has some time to play with Lolita, go out, climb some hills, and rest up. But the Burns news is up there with the stars and planets!!

Having just returned from Scotland, and having spent some time in the Abby in Paisley, I was happy to hear that it is in a new film.

It is also great timing for Burns. Gerry in his prime, playing the bard in his. I can't wait.

We met a friend of Mr. B.'s at the Shanghi Shuffle, in Glasgow, who has a part in Burns. She told us it is being filmed in 2008, too.

I can't wait to see this movie!!!!! :claphands::claphands:

Hey, ladies, i was at the Scotland GB.net convention and the movie is going to happen next year, while there I had the pleasure of going to the Shanghai shuffle, and the resident singer there, Kathleen MacDermott, is going to have a part in the movie and said herself that it would be filming within the next year or so, sincerely, Tracy

I'm happy that our boy will be in Burns too. But..."legendary director Charlie Martin Smith" ??????? He's a nice guy, I'm sure, and a very good actor, but certainly not legendary as a director! Sorry, but I had to chuckle.
