This is one of my favorite roles of Gerry. It's a shame it's not currently available on Amazon. I hope they bring it back.

Before I bought my own copy, I rented it on Netflix a couple of times. Definitely a must see. Excellent performances all the way around.

I'm glad I have two sets - this is my favorite of Gerry's roles to date - he is "pure dead brilliant" as Johnnie Donne. It is also a wonderful ensemble piece and very thought-provoking storyline.

IMDB says the runtime on this series is 5 hours.

It's a three disc series so that sounds about right.

As to if it's going to be on PBS again, I couldn't find any information on that but maybe your local PBS station might. Perhaps someone else out there can find out more.

My favorite of his roles...oh JOHNNIE!!!!

I got mine off of Amazon a while ago, there must have been a run on them.

Funny thing, Mark Strong was in that with Gerry, he played Helen McCrory's whacked out husband.

He was also in Anna Karenina with her.

And is now making another with her and Daniel Craig.

Oh and he's in RocknRolla with Gerry.

He was in Syriana as well, a small but very memorable part..he's really made a ton of great movies, playing complex supporting roles.

Amazon.ca still has The Jury: Amazon.ca - The Jury

Chapters.Indigo.ca still has The Jury: Chapters.Indigo - The Jury

And I notice Amazon.ca has Reign of Fire and Phantom of the Opera in Blu-Ray HD!

Plus Reign of Fire and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in UMD Mini-PSP format

Maybe this means that other films of Gerry's will start to come out in different formats!!

I'm so with you guys. The Jury is by far one of his best made for TV movies! The gals that have seen the Jury will know what I mean about one part is academy award material!! I was convinced and used close to a whole box of tissue to prove it!! This movie is a MUST SEE!

I just got THE JURY yesterday (from Amazon.com). It had been out of stock till just recently so try ordering again. It's so worth it..

I watched it all last evening...about 5 hrs. but Oh!!!! it's wonderful. Everyone in it are good actors but Gerry is outstanding. You just want to wrap your arms around him and hug him.....and he looks amazing. I wish he were in every scene but of course he cant be but you do wait for him to come on screen and completely dominate it. I dont see how Hollywood has neglected him for so long. He is the ultimate actor, funny, romantic, tender, tough and utterly irresistible.

The story is engrossing and holds you but Gerrys character just wrings you out. He had to have some inner drive in himself that made his portrayal of Johnny Donne so convincing and tormented and yet so endearing. He is breath taking in some parts. I loved the series and recommend it to every Gerry fan that loves his acting and heart. You will not be disappoointed in spending your money for this one. A must see.

Johnnie is my favorite of Gerry's characters, yes, he's done other characters even better, and he's grown as an actor since, but there is something about Johnnie that I just want to protect and tell him to hang on, he'll be okay. It's that intensity of his emotions that is lying just under the surface, like at any moment he could slip and all his hard work would be for nothing.

I'm not giving out any spoilers, but for those who haven't seen it, there is one scene that I don't even TALK about because it breaks my heart.

  • 2 years later...

Well imagine my shock when after watching Survivor Samoa I notice that something called The Jury is being aired on TVO, which is the Ontario public TV Station and I am thinking wait, didn't GB do something with that name - I watch the opening credits and whose name appears as the second name - well I don't know if this was a movie or mini series to start but they are showing it in 6 one hour slots on Thursdays at 9:00 pm on TVO. What a very pleasant surprise.

Based on how long I've been waiting it appears that Netflix has only 1 copy of disc 1 for The Jury. So to whichever one of ya'll gals that's hanging onto it...... please let it go, it's my turn. ~Becca

If you have the $20-30 bucks to spare, I highly recommend The Jury as a purchase. Gerry's performance is amazing, and he's one of the main characters, so he's in a good chunk of the scenes. Also, the main story (the trial) as well as the other subplots (the stories of the other jurors) are very good. Even though it takes 6 hours to watch the whole thing, I've already watched through it 4 times since getting it in July. I think Johnny Donne is one of Gerry's absolute best roles!

"The Jury" has always been the movie I think of when I think of Gerry's most dramatic role which also tears my heart out. I have a feeling LAC will be even better for Gerry, as hard as that is to believe.

I don't know... I mean, I know from the previews that Gerry does get quite teary in LAC, but I think his portrayal of Johnny is so moving because he's able to communicate such vulnerability and human weakness. I'll have to reserve final judgment until October 16, but I think Johnny will remain Gerry's most moving character in my mind!

Steph you're so right. I just watched a clip of it on you tube. A scene in a coffee shop where he's having lunch with a woman. I am now off to search for it to buy. It looks amazing from the few minutes I watched. It's his subtle mannerism's that kill me every time. ~Becca
