The nominations were recently announced for the U.K.’s first ever National Movie Awards.

A number of action films and stars were nominated for the awards which take place on September 28th, 2007 at Royal Festival Hall in London.

Films released September 2006 and August 2007 were eligible for nomination and the awards will be voted on by movie lovers everywhere.

In the Best Action/Adventure category (the first of four movie categories) there were four nominees including the critically acclaimed “300” starring Gerard Butler, the 007 film Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig, the fourth installment of the “Die Hard” series, “Live Free or Die Hard” starring Bruce Willis and the summer blockbuster Transformers starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson.

There was plenty of action with other nominees including the Best Animation Movie.

Nominees include “Flushed Away”, “Happy Feet”, “Shrek the Third” and “The Simpsons Movie”.

The Best Comedy Movie features the action of Hot Fuzz and “Night at the Museum”.

Rounding out the category is “Borat: Cultural Learnings of American for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” and “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”.

Nominees for the Best Family Movie are four action intense hit movies from this past summer.

These include “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and “Spider-Man 3”.

Actors and actresses aren’t going to be left out of the U.K.’s National Movie Awards.

There are six nominees in the Best Performance – Female category. Casino Royale costars Judi Dench (“M”) and Eva Green (“Vesper Lynd”) are contenders for the award as are Kirsten Dunst (“Mary Jane”) for “Spider-Man 3”, Megan Fox (“Mikaela”) for Transformers, Keira Knightley (“Elizabeth”) for “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and Emma Watson (“Hermione”) for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”.

Not to be outdone, there are actually eight nominees in the Best Performance – Male category.

Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp face off against each other in the category.

The two are nominated for their roles as Will Turner and Captain Jack Sparrow, respectively, in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”.

Another on-screen duo faces off against each other in the same category.

Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter”) and Rupert Grint (“Ron”) are also nominated for best actor for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”.

Other nominees include Daniel Craig as James Bond for Casino Royale, Shia LaBeouf (“Sam Witwicky”) for Transformers, Tobey Maguire (“Peter Parker/Spider-Man”) in “Spider-Man 3” and Bruce Willis (“John McClane”) in “Live Free or Die Hard”.

Did I miss something here? Aren't they missing another male actor in the Best Performance category? Or is this an England vs Scotland thing? I hope not!! Gerry has been nominated everywhere else, why not here?

I'm with the rest of you who are happy to see "300" nominated but can't believe Gerry was overlooked in favor of SEVERAL of the other (less worthy) nominees in the acting category!!

:grrr2: :hey::read: :bleh2:

:angry2: me too, Gerry!

 it sure is! :lookin: Go get 'em Leo!!

Tobey Maguire?? Shia Leboeuf?? No Gerard Butler?? GRRRRRRRR

Ummm...yea, this does NOT compute...unless, oh I know what it is..Gerry is so off the charts and better than anyone else mentioned that they decided the others wouldn't stand a chance if he were an official contender..yep, that's gotta be it; no other way to possibly figure it, right?!! RIGHT?? *scratches head in confusion*

Well, I don't understand it. I'm pleased that 300 has been nominated but IMO although it's a stunning movie it wouldn't have had the same impact without Gerard's magnificent performance. Just what is it going to take and who draws up these lists of nominees?

OMG.... I can not believe it!!! This is outrageous! This is a British award and they ignore one of their own? Their finest???? I do not get it!!!! They rather nominate actors that look good thanks to stuntmen and special effects instead of an actor who worked out and trained so hard to be able to do all of his own fight scenes and and to look believably at it!!! I simply don't get it... It's beyond me!!!

OK, needed to blow.

I emailed the National Movie Awards asking why Gerry wasn't nominated for Male Performance and this is the reply I received;

Hello,

Thanks for your email. Gerard Butler was not offered as a choice in the Male

Performance category as 300 was not one of the top grossing films. Unfortunately

to keep the integrity of the vote we are unable to alter the list in any way.

By voting for 300 Mr. Butler could be on stage to collect the award for the

film.

Many Thanks

Stewart

Subject: National Movie Awards Poll-Performance Male

Hello,

I was wondering why Gerard Butler wasn't offered up as a choice in the Male

Performace category. He was incredible in 300 and won the Taurus Stunt

Action Award for his work in the movie. Would it be possible to add him to

the list or at least include an area where we can just fill in our choice? I

think you would be surprised to see how many people would back Mr. Butler.

Thanks,

Rania

WoW! You got a real response. :goodjob2:

But what I don't understand is "300 was not one of the top grossing films." Posted Image According to boxofficemojo "300"'s total take in theatres was $456,065,602! And it's rental take is $27.22 million as of 8-19-07. It's number 6 for the year. Maybe I need to educate them...Posted Image

OK... now I'm even more shocked that Gerry isn't nominated. 300 did way better than the last Die Hard movie and it did better than Casino Royale, at least in the US.... It's only the 3rd R-rated movie EVER to cross 200 Mio $....

Well, I guess they only count the UK box office and maybe it didn't do as well over there, I don't know. They obviously do not count the US/world-wide box office. Plus they do not account for the rating of this movie....

I'm biting my tongue not to write about this whole affair and those people what I really think.... ;)

Ina, breathing deeply....

Hmmm, interesting....

Obviously 300 didn't do as well in the UK as it did in other countries... and yet... Die Hard didn't do better either.... Maybe they count on it still passing 300... but maybe it won't, who knows? To be fair they should have nominated Gerry too.

Plus if 300 was successful enough to be nominated... so should have been Gerry... sigh....

According to the e-mail reply the nominees for Male Performance were based on UK ticket sales? Have I got that correct? I always thought that Male Performance (Best Actor by another name?) meant just that - and nominations weren't based on ticket sales. How naive of me. Rather shoots a hole in the value of the award don't you think? Or have I misunderstood. :(

I agree.... And even just going by UK tickets sales 300 is #9 and Live Free or Die Hard is # 10... so why is Bruce Willis nominated and Gerry isn't? Nothing against Bruce... but if they truly go by tickets sales at the time of nomination... Gerry should be in.

I really like Greece's numbers!!!!

WOW... 300 left the competition FAR, FAR, FAR behind....
