Most memorable movie moments

The Province

Friday, December 28, 2007

Glen Schaefer breaks them down In no particular order:

- King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) tosses a Persian emissary into a bottomless pit in 300. That's how a comic-book hero handles Middle East negotiations. George Bush, don't try this at home. The waxed-chest look is also hard to maintain.

- Will Ferrell gives Jon Heder a hand in Blades of Glory.

- Lindsay Lohan stars as a party girl who realizes she has a problem and cleans up in Georgia Rule. And they said she couldn't act.

- Keith Richards walks and talks at the same time in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Year's best special effect, no question.

- Katherine Heigl looks askance at Seth Rogen's butt cleavage the morning after in Knocked Up.

- Bruce Willis gets the last bit of his "Yippie Ki-Yay . . ." catchphrase cut off in Live Free or Die Hard.

- Hundreds of rats take over the restaurant kitchen in Ratatouille. Sorry, I'm with the health inspector on this one.

- Helena Bonham Carter, as Bellatrix Lestrange, gleefully dispatches Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Carter's got a knack for making the macabre weirdly compelling, also seen in hubby Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd.

- Shia LeBoeuf and Megan Fox get about 30 seconds of quiet time, without CGI hardware, in Transformers.

- Career comeback, when John Travolta puts on women's clothing and dances with Christopher Walken as a working-class mom in Hairspray. A decade ago Travolta played a dancing junkie in Pulp Fiction. Wait for another career comeback 10 years from now, as a dancing junkie working-class mom. Possibly in a white suit, to disco. Staying alive, staying alive.

- Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is asked for his ID in Superbad.

- About, oh, 3:05 p.m. in 3:10 to Yuma.

- A lawyer (George Clooney) parks his Benz and gets out to look at some horses after a long night in Michael Clayton.

- Cop (Russell Crowe) sees gangster (Denzel Washington) at the big fight in American Gangster.

- The coin toss in No Country For Old Men.

- Everyone in New York's Central Park gets animated in Enchanted.

- No one left in Central Park but Will Smith in I Am Legend.
