Vegas Advanced Video Workshop

Attention All Video Artists!

I will be conducting an Advanced Video Workshop at the Vegas Convention on Friday, June 13, in the Hilton Ballroom from 1:30-3:00 pm. I would like to get an idea how many are interested in attending and what sort of format you'd like it to be.

If you have made any videos in the past, whether it be a slide show or something with moving clips, you are most welcome to attend. But I do need to get some sort of idea what experience level you have so I don't jump in and start someplace we're not ready to get to just yet. I was thinking we could do a demo/round table sort of discussion, and if you have specific questions, you could bring those along.

I have some questions for you -

1. What video program are you using?

2. Do you know how to rip clips from DVD's?

3. Have you ever worked with moving clips?

4. Are you interested in seeing a demo of different effects, transitions, and filters?

5. Are you familiar with keyframing?

6. Are you interested in learning how to do overlays with multiple video tracks?

7. Have you used pan/crop/zoom?

I'm sure there are other topics I'm not thinking of right now. If there are other things you'd like to touch on, suggest away!

Regardless what video program you are using, I am sure you can pick up useful information. I run Sony Vegas Pro 8 on my laptop, but you don't have to use this software to attend. All the Vegas programs operate in a similar fashion. Concepts in Vegas translate well to other softwares, even if they don't function exactly the same. So please come whatever program you use!

Drop a post here and leave your ideas and let me know if you'd like to attend the workshop. I am looking forward to seeing you there!

As you know from another thread, I just ordered Vegas Pro 8 but I've only ever done one video completely - and it was a slide show, no video clips. I would love to know how to rip video clips from DVD but feel that others who plan to take the advanced class will already know how to do that and I would hate to waste their time on stuff that should be more basic.

Maybe Mel will cover that in her basics class, but I doubt I'll be able to take that as I'll be setting up raffle and auction stuff at that time (I'm guessing, based on how it went last year). I might just sit in on yours and see how much I can learn without interrupting the advanced vidders with silly basic questions.

Perhaps you'd be willing to send me some written instructions for ripping vid clips so I could practice that beforehand and see how I do with it.

Yeah Kittypro,

I have used WMM only. I have done videos and have won a few awards. I love your vids. I have Sony Vegas 6.0 on my laptop but I feel intimidated by all the options and I have just not had the time to sit and learn it. Can't wait for the class . Thanks for doing this.

I want to learn 4-7 LOL

Maybe what I should do is make up some sort of a handout that has some basic info on ripping clips and the like. These are things that are really not too tough to figure out on your own. Then, we can spend more time on the other things that reallly are a lot more fun.

Bea, if you have Vegas 6, that's fantastic! It's essentially the same as version 8, and I can definitely help you figure out how to navigate it.

Fantastic!

That's a great idea, Pat, about the handouts! I'm so very excited for this workshop! Chance to compare features we've learned to use with the Sony programs and others!

Hey Pat,

I plan on attending your wokshop.

1. I use Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.

2. I know how to rip clips.

3. I've worked with moving clips.

4. Interested in your demo.

5. Working with keyframing a little - still have lots to learn.

6. I've worked with overlays.

7. I've worked with pan/crop/zoom - still have lots to learn.

I'm interested in learning extending the length or timing of effects, transitions, etc.

I've got the VASST video on Vegas Studio 6 by good ole' Spotted Eagle. I'm going to be on vacation next week in the Great State of Texas & plan to play with Vegas while my husband is conferencing. I'm looking forward to the workshop as it's great to be able to ask questions & exchange ideas.

Look forward to seeing everyone.

Nadine

Oh Yea,

That is a great idea I learned the basic's from the "Video making for Dummies" at GB.Net LOL!!!!

It is great to have the advanced class. Poor Mel has tried to get to us intermediate students and always runs out of time.

Thanks both of you for helping us out.....

Anyone else planning on attending? I'm printing up a handout on ripping clips, and I need to have an idea how many to print. I leave home on Wednesday morning, so tomorrow will be my last chance to do any printing. If I run out, no bother. The handout is in a Word document, and I can easily e-mail it to anyone who wants it.

Try to post here or send me a PM by tomorrow afternoon, before 3 PM Central time.

See you all soon! I hope I don't screw anything up! LOL!

Hey Pat,

and Susan.......I am bringing my laptop and I have AOA dvd ripper on it. Was planning to bring a dvd also so if anyone wants some "hands on" experience ripping clips, that will work.

I have vegas pro 8.0 on that puter and have not used any of the features beyond what my vegas 6.0 has, so I would like to learn whatever you can teach me, including what you can teach me about the features I haven't even used yet from the 6.0..

Maybe I could help some of those who are new to 6.0 or who are thinking of getting it. I am bringing my 6.0 book, and a lot of the features of 8.0 are the same.

Oh yeah that reminds me.....I need to download the book for 8.0 onto my laptop. Going to do that now.

Will you have that computer on an overhead projector like they had last year? Can you hook any computer to it?

I am so excited!!!! We will have a ball!!!

Cheers,

Judy

That's great, Judy! It will be good to have two laptops, so people can have a chance to 'push the buttons' themselves. I have AoA ripper, and ImTOO ripper as well, so if people need practice, we have two options.

I've loaded up some clips to play around with velocity filters, overlays, pan/crop, effects, and transitions, and also a very cool trick I learned using the masking tool combined with overlay and effects.

There's not a whole lot I've found that's different between Vegas 7 and 8 outside of the advanced titlling. I've played around with it a little, and it can do some amazing things. Maybe if we put our heads together, we'll unearth some amazing things about it.

I also have the Pixelan Spicemaster transition and Creative Ease effects plug-in packages installed on my laptop, so if we have time, we can play around with that as well. It does some totally PHENOMENAL things, and I have barely scratched the surface figuring out what it can all accomplish. It has some fabulous earthy and liquid effects, lots of cool color correction and blur options, as well as step motion and posterizing effects. Very cool!

It should be fun! See you all on Friday at 11:30 am in the Hilton Ballroom!
