5/16 - Darabont to direct $40m crime thriller for The Film Department

Recommended Posts

You guys are kidding about trying to find out where he's staying, right???

Totally kidding, of course. What's cool is knowing that you could run into him while being out and about. Of course I doubt I would have the nerve to say anything to him!

Hello and thanks for my warm welcome as a Newbie...

Can someone fill us in on Frank Darabont? Have seen "Green Mile" and "Shawshank Redemption". Loved both of them. Especially liked the unpredictable nature of the scripts when there is so much presciptive stuff out there.

I'm actually hoping that this new movie shows us a mixture of GB the current actor and GB the past lawyer/solicitor. Let's hope it's lean and mean! Does anyone know who wrote LAC?

PS. I don't wish to get anyone off track or ruffle any feathers but I'm still learning my way around and am wondering if there is a section of the origins/early days of this website.

Thanks,

Nay

The meerscats image was too funny!! Thanks for sending. But of course - kidding all the way. Stalking is scary and everyone knows that, I would imagine. But it's still neat when a celebrity comes to the broken-down city of Detroit. And I can say that, having lived and worked there for 7 years! Detroit needs good press, good actors and filmmakers filming there, and more dollars pumped into the economy. I hope the whole LAC crew spends lots of money and has a good time in Detroit Rock City!!

According to the article the story takes place in Chicago. So why are they filming in Detroit-especially if it's as bad as all that. Chicago is a wonderful city and doesn't need a "stand-in"!!!!

Whew - I was getting ready to warn someone! In all seriousness, girls, he doesn't like to be barraged by fans while working so hopefully that was all in fun. If you do happen to see him by chance, AWESOME!! But please don't go hunting him down. Especially since this is his first time out producing as well . . . can't help it - I'm overly protective over him. But it is exciting to think that Gerry would be so close. I usually can't breathe when I drive through LA when I know he's there . . .

I am sooo excited about LAC! I just see this movie as THE role for him that will let Hollywood see what he's made of - because for some unknown reason POTO and 300 just weren't enough. I think it's ironic (but probably on purpose) that he's playing a lawyer for his first producer/actor role. He'll be pairrfect!!!

Could be cheaper to film in Detroit than in Chicago? Or they could have changed the location? Good question!

Oh happy day, he's coming to my part of the world!! While I don't live in Detroit, it is a hop, skip and a jump away from me. I wonder where he will be staying, I doubt it would be actually in Detroit...

I am soooo excited!

Katherine,

I live about an hour away from Detroit. Let's find out where he'll be staying (probably Birmingham? Lots of famous types stay there) and go camp out!!

Njk

Birmingham might be a good place but it could be Troy, or there is the new hotel downtown at the casino which is supposed to be very nice.

I am going to be on the hunt with you as well.

Dawn

I live 2 hours due north of Detroit! Count me in for whatever master plans may arise!

I'm gonna say it one more time . . .

He doesn't like to be bugged while filming. If you need proof, find some girls who hunted him down while up in Toronto filming Shattered. He was so angry with them . . .

Girls, please, there's always some level of truth to the joking around, we all know that. PLEASE, don't go looking for him. There are many reasons.

Number One: This is his JOB. He needs to focus on what he's doing in order to give the best performance possible.

Number Two: This is his first time out producing. He needs to be taken seriously.

Number Three: If you don't care about his feelings or needs, think about the bad name you'll be giving yourselves as well as the rest of his fans.

One of the things we as Gerry fans pride ourselves on is the RESPECT we show him. That's also one of the reasons we have a relationship with Gerry, why he comes across the street at premieres, why he does phone conferences with us, why he donates things to our events. Yes, we love him; Yes we adore him; YES he's the most beautiful creature ever created, but more than anything he's a human being who deserves respect and space.

Please, girls, even if you are joking, it's not something we take lightly. We take Gerry's needs and safety very seriously, and they always ALWAYS come first.

Please don't upset him . . .

My thoughts, exactly.

I guess we will soon see...

I would like to re-iterate what Phoenixgirl and some of the other long time Gerry fans have said YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I am not in the habit of preaching to anybody or try to patronize people - especially what appears to be newbies on this board who maybe don't know the score and I honestly hope you are all joking but I can't stress highly enough to keep away from where Gerry is working. I know when he was filming Shattered he was asked to move hotel because of crazed fans - or so the rumours go!. I think this film more than any other is so important to him as it is the first film where he is actually producing and whilst I am sure on the face of things Gerry would probably be very nice to any fan he came across near the set we do not want to start to annoy him and he pulls back from fans.

If you read back posts of the last year because of Gerry's "sudden" rise to fame he has unfortunately not been as "accessible" as he once was and we have to appreciate every little bit of his time that he can afford us these days so we have to keep on his good side. I see nothing wrong in turning up at premieres or talk shows where he is making a public appearance but to actually start to infringe on his personal space ie going to his hotel if you find it is a no no - no matter how tempting. If anybody lives in the vicinity of where he is filming and happens to bump into him then good for you but PLEASE do not go out of your way to track him down.

I will get off my soap box now.

Moira

I'm excited about this movie. First one I've been excited about in awhile. And the director is great...love The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption (does he specialize in prison movies or what? LOL).

And leave Gerry alone.

oh. ok then. I'll just stay home then.

Very sorry.

Now I'm thinking this though: if he's the kind of actor that gets pissy about fans (considering that's what Hollywood is all about) then I guess I'm a fan of the wrong kind of actor.

I think we're getting a little too heated over something that hasn't even happened yet.

I don't want to get too off topic with this thread, but I will say that I see nothing wrong with visiting a set, provided it's within the guidelines and people behave properly. I'm sure when people put together films, they expect that sort of thing. While I wouldn't advocate finding out where someone is staying and hanging out there or following them around town, I see nothing wrong with going down to see the set. If people (i.e. Gerry, his people, etc) don't feel threatened by you, they have a better chance of allowing you to approach them, or approaching you if they so desire to.

I've never visited a set, but I've been to a number of conventions where pretty big actors were present. I've found most them to be very hospitable, because I don't stalk them. I give them their space, don't follow them around and bug them, only ask for things during their scheduled time to be signing autographs, etc., and basically treat them just like I would treat any other human being. One night during a convention about four of them came up to where we were sitting, sat down and had drinks with us. We didn't invite them, and we weren't expecting it. It just happened, because they didn't feel threatened. When three of them went to leave to attend something they were scheduled to do, one of them stayed with us because "you're much better looking than those guys". I ended up having a very long and interesting conversation with him.

Food for thought...they might be hiring extras. That would be a good way to get access to the set without breaking any rules. Then again, since I never visited a set before, I don't really know what the rules are. But I would expect if you use some good common sense, things should be okay. But I will echo the sentiment here to not do the hotel thing. I'm not anyone's boss here, but that's my advice. I'd hate for something to turn out bad, and people get their feelings hurt. Gerry's just a guy, and he's not perfect. He gets tired just like the rest of us and needs his space. He might not be too happy if a bunch of fans are trying to find out what room he's staying in - not that any of you would do that, but I heard something recently where fans did just that - and that in my book is just plain wrong.

No I didn't miss the point. I understood the point very well. I'm going to stay home. And not bother the man.

Donna, thank you for your post. I get overly protective of him, and I just remember reading the stories about the stalking that went on in Toronto, and how upset he was. I just want to avoid something like that.

But Donna has a good point. It's probably expected that there would be fans hanging around, but please be respectful. I'm sure on a set every Gerry fan would be respectful.

It was the hotel comments that got me scared. Please don't do that. That's all I ask. And don't follow him from the set, etc. If you're meant to meet him, then the Universe will make sure it happens.

I think we're fighting the wrong battle. I think we all need to write to The Film Department about their horrible spelling error!!!!

I only recently heard about the incidents in Toronto (I'm a fairly new fan), but from what I heard a few fans were trying to find out what room he was staying in, and one actually groped him. Supposedly it was at an after party (which sheds a whole new light on the CUT thing for me, and why Gerry would have second thoughts on attending the event). It's a shame a couple of people can ruin things for everyone, because I seriously doubt the majority that were there were acting out of line.

We also have to remember that we wee folks out here in the "sticks" (i.e. the Midwest) don't get things like this like those of you who live in CA or NY, so when it happens we tend to get excited. But I have faith that most of Gerry's fans are normal and not dangerous. Until they give me reason to think otherwise, I like to think the best about people. :)

I suppose it can't be helped. If people want to turn up to a set to see their favourite actor/actress they will and like you said Lisa most Gerry fans do know how to conduct themselves. I heard the stories too about Toronto and the situation at the hotel and it is such a shame but I guess he can make people very excitable

Maybe I should just keep my mouth (and fingers) shut and let people do what they want. I'm not his keeper, anyway. I've already explained why I said what I did, and I stand by Gerry's safety and privacy above all else.

I'll shut up . . .

While it's commendable for us to try to "protect" Gerry, I'm sure he's quite capable of taking care of himself, and he has plenty of others to help him with that regard as well. You know I love y'all... :kisswink:

No Lisa you said nothing out of order - we are all very protective of Gerry and most importantly protective of making sure Gerry fans get a good name. I am proud to be a GALS and everything a Gerry fan stands for.

You're right, Donna. He's a big boy and can take care of himself. I just want to keep the good name of Gerry fans positive.

Man, I can't keep my mouth shut, can I? Probably why I have no friends.

Less than what 5 gals getting excited over Gerard Butler coming to Detroit is really very little cause for alarm. It's Detroit. I'd be more concerned about him getting carjacked than stalked!
