Yes, Susan. That's the one. He was very nice tonight and had impeccable manners. Not pushy or anything. And cuddly. I like cuddly.

Lish, that's really nice! Good luck and have fun with future dates!

Babs, that girl is incredible!!! It's like she has two (more, actually) different parts to her body and they all move individually, at the same time .... I think I feel a bit put off now LOL NO, I'm going to do it!!!! (she says, clenching her jaw) I still have about 8 pounds to lose (although 10 or 12 would be better ... Ah, the joys of hormones!) but I still feel you can't really see my waist, so this is going to be a BIG challenge, baby, to actually find some separate hips to move!!! LOL Maybe they will magically appear, all by themselves, as time passes? One can dream ...I can't wait to get started now!! I'm really going to give it my best shot. I've got a few months - hopefully, at the very least I'll be better than I am now?!?! :)

RIGHT CLICK!!! RIGHT CLICK??? Darn, file save as..... I have a Mac and right click save doesn't work anymore. Anyway, thanks for the wonderful screen caps of the eight pack :pant:

Lish, glad to hear your date went so well. Now take it a bit slow but enjoy..... or don't if that's what you want LOL. Hugs!!!

I'm sorry Memorial Day was a bit of a washout for you American ladies. Ruined BBQs are no fun when you've been looking forward to them.

Some of you may remember I took up golf last year. Had the best round yesterday with my first par!! OK so if you don't know about golf that doesn't really matter but I loved it.

Hugs to all

TOWANDA is back !!!! Hi Pilar, Anna, Donnakat and everyone. I have not been on in awhile time for us oldie but goodies to start posting again. its sooo hot here in Miss I got sick today from the heat.

I could not do my walking for it being so hot I have to do it tonight.

I have 2 yellow flowers on my tomatoe plants. I can't wait I hope I can get them to grow OK.

My dog is getting clippped in a week she will feel better.

:tissues::tissues::tissues: My kids and daughter will be leaving the 3oth for Tex. for good. I saw the kids a month ago that was my last to see them. I don't know how I am going to be without them. Have to lean more on Gerry and my Jamie siggy. !!!!! Yeah my beautiful highlander. Gerry says he loves to walk in the highlands. I would love to be with him :whome2: Well Hope everyone is well ya;ll good Gals come on back on here now. miss you love ya'll Betts Raina Snow

That must be very hard for you to have family moving away - I know what it feels like, my elder daughter was transatlantic for two years, at university, when we moved back here to France ... and after finishing there, went to live and work for a year in Spain ... Then, in the meantime, my younger daughter decided to go to London for her university and has stayed to work there ... You get used to it, but it's not very nice, and your telephone bills really feel it! Although webcams are a really good buy.... maybe you could get that set up before they go? :comfort: Good luck with the tomatoes BTW! And the heat!!

<Gets on soap box>

Christine, it has taken me since September to lose 21 pounds! It was very hard and slow going for me, as you can see! If I can manage to do it, with such a tryingly, painfully slow result, then you certainly can - you're younger than me (I'm sure you know that the older you get the harder it is to lose, another good reason to get rid of it now!) and that generally means it will go quicker, much more encouraging! Just remember - one day at a time and don't *ever* think "how am I ever going to do this?" Just do it (!) - or not! (I mean *go* for that power walk or *don't* eat those cookies! I stopped buying *anything* that had *any* sugar in it - some of the things that have sugar added are quite surprising!) Even yoghourts or drinks anything elsewith aspartame aren't a good idea, since that still gives you the sweetness that you want to avoid and get out of your system .... Anyway if you want any tips, you can PM me if you like. I was never over 125 pounds in my life till I hit 45 and then the weight started to add on ... Now I need to lose another 14 pounds to get back to that - not possible maybe! So I've set myself to lose 8 and then we'll see ... At this point in time for me, every ounce is hard!! That's one way that helped, BTW, say "this week I*know* I can lose X pounds", make a big effort and you might be surprised by losing more! Don't give yourself too much of a shock psychologically at first though, just stop buying stuff that will put on weight and very gently finish off the stuff that you already have in the house - a lot easier on you than throwing it all out! BUT once it has gone STAY STRONG AND DON'T BUY ANY MORE. Oh boy, I'm really going on here, huh? It also helped me, I admit, to think of Gerry and those incredible sized weights he used to pump in between shots in 300! I felt SO weak-willed, ashamed and inneffectual not being able to lose a few measly pounds a week compared to the amazing effort he put in, that that image of him just standing there between two shots (I doubt I could have lifted one of them with two hands) just inspired me to do better the next day ... corny but true .... Good luck, sweetie!

<Gets off soap box>

Cat, congratulations on your first par!

Good Lord, every time I'm going to meet you, I have 3 or 4 pages to read !

And I don't speak about the links I follow (gee ... the BD are so amazing !).

Barb, your pictures are amazing ! You can be very proud about your talent ! Did you see the movie "La graine et le mulet" (I can't translate) : it's about a muslim family who is living in Marseille, the father came to work in France around 1960, and he want to succees opening a restaurant. During the diner for the opening day, his young daughter dances the BD during about 20 minutes ... And she's amazing !!! The actress won a "Cesar" award in novembre 2007 for this character). I recommand you this movie !

My husband doesn't like to dance, so I dance and I encourage him to escort me in the dance ... The last week, I put a CD in the machine (Jazz thing by Randy Bachman, I discovered him because of a GALS's link and I bought it). And I danced a slow dance with hubby in the living room. He laught a lot and he danced ! But for the BD, I prefer to watch the Gerry's lesson in PSILY ... And I saw the 6 packs the first time I went to the movie. It's one of my favourite moments, when Holly is remembering him and when he's preparing for the day ... Yum !

Thank you for the pictures Phoenix Girl !!!

Daian, hi to you !!! Even if I'm not writing (I need time to write) I try to read some posts every day ... So, even if you don't read me, I'm still here baby !

Jobella ... Be careful to you, and all will be fine, hubby here and baby too ... Both for you !

Sorsha, I read your advice about loosing weith ... I would to be so strong as you. You need to be strong to resist to a lot of good things to eat ;I don't mean candies, I don't like that, or cookies, I don't like that too much, or chocolate I don't like that : no, I mean cheeses, bread, potatoes, charcuterie, wine, beers .... I have some pounds to loose (in fact 10 kilogrammes = 22 pounds) ... But I don't have the courage to begin. I began and I stopped, and even if I thing to a lot of fine people who succeed in some things they wanted to do, ... Perhaps I will try again ... I stopped smoking, and for me it was a big challenge this year. Enough for a while !

All those I didn't quote, I apologize ... It would be to long for me and I need time ! But I don't forget you, and I'm interesting by all your quotation, your humour, your links and pictures ... I read you, and I definitively GALSadhic !

Have a good day !

 Hi Bénédicte!!

Congratulatoins on Lyon's wins!!

Nice to "see" you at the same time here as me!!

I think one of the reasons that it is taking me so long is the "normal" everyday food is so good in France .... and the wine!!! I understand completely how you started and stopped etc... I just couldn't stand looking so heavy any longer .... and I got to be that size 42 was tight on me - that was another reason for keeping strong at the beginning! LOL Now I'm somewhere between 38 and 40 - my jeans need to be held up with a belt, but the 38 is still too tight.

I stopped smoking when I was forty (true Scot that I am, I started at twelve!) and that probably didn't help either - and I still want to have a cigarette very often - I was really addicted to that - still am I suppose ...

As for Christophe Lambert and Sophie Marceau, well, nobody bothers them in the restaurant but it's so hard not to look in their direction all the time!! LOL

Grosses bises,

Sorsha xxxx

Bon courage if you can manage to try again, by the way, in the meantime DANCE just dance - like I said I listen to anything to dance to on my ipod while ironing and dance at the same time - my daughter almost died laughing the first time she saw me, but then said it was a really good idea!! Disco and old Tamla Motown are my favourites to go with shirts!!

Lish ~ I'm also glad your date went well! Cuddly is very sexy. Good for you!

Christine ~

Sorsha ~ I know I can use your advice, too. I wish I had the will-power and motivation to do something soon. Also, my mom used to clean to Motown. HA! Thanks for bringing back that memory. Getting your siggie up is easy. You just need a Photobucket account - which is free! PM me if you want more help!

SB ~ Prince Caspian was really good. You'll enjoy it!

Raina ~ I'm so sorry, sweetie. I can't imagine my boys moving away from me, and I certainly know it's a possibility one of these days soon. We'll be here for you!

I hope everyone has the day off, and if you don't I hope you have an easy, quiet day!! It's not raining anymore here, but now it's that yucky after rain muddy day. Feh.

It's a good day to do some scrapbooking and watch Gerry movies!!

I just went into my kitchen to make some coffee and some breakfast, and discovered a few hundred ants crawling around in my kitchen sink. I had dirty dishes in there, but not very many. Now I'm thoroughly grossed and creeped out, and no longer have an appetite for food.

How's that for a diet tip?

At least it was an excuse for me to get up off my lazy butt and clean the kitchen. Now I have to see if there are any stores open today because I need to buy new ant traps, because OBVIOUSLY the ones I have are no longer working.

 You're welcome. :p

I hate bugs. I'm such a girl when it comes to bugs. Ants I can tolerate, but anything bigger than that and I get silly. Well, sillier than normal, that is.

Donna, I detest bugs. And I've had the same problem in other apartments and houses, hence I understand the disgust and loss of appetite. I am fortunate (knock on wood) that I rarely have a problem with insects in this apartment...but, then again, I'm still waiting for a professional to tape and paint the buckled and discolored parts of my ceiling that were ruined last weekend during my plumbing nightmare. My landlady is useless, but she's the one who needs to call someone to finish this "project" before the new landlord assumes control of the house.

Well, Guitar Center called me at 7:30 this morning and said that I didn't need to report for work as they already had too many hands on deck. Between that fact and removing me from my Saturday night shift due to my doctor's note (I can't use the industrial-sized vacuum nor can I mop due to the incessant pain in my lower back), I really feel that they're discriminating against me. I plan to speak to Erika, my boss, about it this week. I can always use the lightweight vacuum if they'd just FIX it -- right now, neither vacuum is functional -- and the person assigned to mop the bathrooms could just mop the front hallway. I don't understand the problem, but I've been kicked in the tush by potential employers a little too often since last autumn. It's as though someone put a curse on me.

I also need a full-time job ASAP. That's the most important factor here. I'm still pounding pavement and feeling very nervous about finances. Today, however, I'm buying my (healthy) groceries and darting over to JC Penney for a bra fitting. These monsters must be minimized. I'd also opt to color and cut my hair in addition to an eyebrow waxing but my hair salon is obviously closed today (and it's only Supercuts as I can't afford a "real" salon). But...EGAD...I must cover the grey on my scalp and rip off my brows as I'm starting to look prehistoric.

Hi Lisa. I hope you're having a good day!!!

Howdy to everyone else...if you're in the States, then please have a fun AND safe holiday.

Those of you NOT living in a hot, humid climate or a hot, dry climate, I envy you. Texas has some serious bugs including roaches the size of battleships - and some of them FLY! I'm not even talking about scorpions and spiders (and something my neighbor calls "trantlers"!) It's no fun here. Fire ants are taking over the lawns and killer bees hang out here too - and don't get me started on snakes. I live here cos I have to and I spend a lot of money on a bug man that comes every other month.....and I still can't keep those little ants out of my kitchen! One of these days, I think I'll move to Scotland where the only thing I have to worry about infesting my life would be Hot Scots!

YOU GO, SOLEN!! I see you're from Turkey, so you know about belly dance. Tell these GALS what it's all about when it comes to male belly dancing! When I saw Gerry do the tummy roll in PSILY, I almost dropped dead :thud: from sheer ecxtasy - OMG, OMG, OMG - he does it "pearfectly."

Solen, I've been watching Tarkan!! He IS gorgeous!! Now *those* eyes are verrrry green! I really liked the Hup video, but the one of him dancing in the desert to Kusu Kusu ....... he really is very yummy!!! I like him with longer hair though

Hey Barb, I felt the same seeing Gerry doing the "stomach thing". He has a great control over his muscles. And that really is a hard move.

Here are the videos I could find if anyone's still interested:

More classical belly dancing by a hot guy and a girl: here and

And Tarkan, belly dancing (in a modern way) in parts of his video clips :yummy:

and

Solen, I'm going to download Kusu Kusu and HUP if I find Tarkan on i tunes ... oh dear, am I cheating on Gerry's singing here? That'll give me a jump start on the dancing ... :)

Sorsha I adore him (his eyes are verry verry green) and have almost all of his songs as mp3, if you cant find them I can help you, and when I have time I'll PM you more info on his songs and meanings of the lyrics (which are usually very clever or emotional or sexy).

Hey Gerry I'm not cheating on you, totally different categories

Babs, I have a Lebanese wedding to go to in August, and probably half the music at the reception will be arabic, hence the belly dancing lesson wish!! Everyone dances like that at dinners, parties, weddings, christenings - it invariably ends up with someone starting to dance! And there you have it - doctors, businessmen, etc etc they are all having a ball and their wives all dance so gracefully....

:hearts:

Sorsha xxxx

Good for you!!! There's a large Arabic population in Paris; many Arab nationalities speak French as a second language. If they're dyed in the wool Lebs, they'll have a bellydancer there - for good luck and "fertility" LOL I've done weddings, many engagements, a couple of Greek Christenings and retirement parties. It is incredibly fun for me because EVERYONE dances and they're so into just dancing!

And wasn't Sadie freakin' INCREDIBLE?? I only wish I had that control for a drum solo. And it looked effortless, didn't it? Well, when you've done it as long as she has, it is, otherwise, good luck!!

Put on that music and JAM, baby!!

Sorry to say Suzie  you are likely to be eaten alive in Scotland by the indigenous man/gal eating midge's. They are several reasons why no Scots would trek the highlands in a kilt or shorts.

You have bugs in Scotland?? No way! :p

Is a midge like a mosquito? Cuz we have bunches of those. Mosquitoes, ticks (ick, I hate ticks), red ants, regular ants, bees, wasps, locusts (I just heard some out back while I was barbequeing), etc. The Midwest is a haven for creepy crawly things, especially when you have a bunch of rain like we've had. That's why I'm thankful (now, anyway) for the hard freeze we had last winter.

Yes, I said "hard". :p

Who wants to come over for some home cookin'? I'm barbequeing chicken, I made au gratin potatoes, and pasta salad. I'm cooking like I got company and it's just me. But I don't care, cuz it's good. My little stray cats keep coming around, though. I guess you can smell it from a mile away. :D

Solen - TARKAN - THERE ARE NO WORDS!!! I use his "Kiss-Kiss" a lot.

Those eyes, how he uses his body on the dance floor - torridly expressive.. DID I JUST CHEAT ON GERRY???? :grrr: (Now that the cat's outta the bad, I may have to put Tarkan in my siggie....)

Christine - At Penneys, look at the "Flower Bali" I wore them for years

B-elle - Le graine et le mulet... "The Kernel and the Mule" I've not heard of it, and such an odd title - it must be key to the movie. I'll see if I can find it.

Cat - HOORAY FOR YOUR PAR! :woo: I am not really into golfing - too frustrating.... but

Lish!- the guy I dated last night is!!! Glad your date went well. I met "Joe" at 11:30PM - spur of the moment crazyiness hit me - and we had a great conversation. He's very nice and asked if he could call me. Looking forward to hearing from him. I might add you all need to clap VERY LOUDLY :clap::clap: for

Lisa - who is my hero and voice of reason. She was IMing me at the time he was IMing me and she made me promise to IM her as soon as I got back - AT 2:30AM, EST (11:30pm PAC time) - for safety's sake. I gave her all his info - just in case. Ya'll better take good care of her in Vegas - she's my baby!!

Gals in general - here are some interesting tips from ("mom") and AARP in their Jan/Feb 2008 issue re: dieting (abbreviated version):

"Change all your bad habits at once" The logic being, if you ask for everything, you'll get some things. Smoking, salt intake, walking an extra 1500 steps a day. The Annals of Internal Medicine (I worked for this org in Philly for about 4 years) said studies showed those asked to give up all their bad habits at once, tended to do better. Personally, I think that's a lot of stress after possibly years of bad habits, but who am I to diss them?

"Think Negative" Everyone always tells you to think positive, but it you don't ID teh issues preventing you from reaching your goal, you won't be able to overcome them. Therefore, list all the reasons why you can't exercise. Next, tackle 1 of those obstacles. No space to exercise? Find a gym - and so on til you run out of excuses.

"Distract Yourself" THIS ONE'S PERFECT FOR US!! In studies of older women (not that ALL on this site are) background music (do I hear Tarkan??) dimmed lights, pix of vacation spots & small talk helped exercisers stick w/a program. "We found if we made it enjoyable, their compliance was enhanced." Go "Poster-size" your fav pic of Gerry,

Posted Image

Ooops, sorry, that one's mine.... Can you imagine those eyes watching you?? :heat: stick Tarkan on, put your fave Gerry movie on mute and DANCE!!!

"Change Your Mind" I have to and I want to are completely different. If you say to yourself you HAVE TO, you already set yourself up for failure. Instead, visualize what you want to be doing in 5-10 years (traveling, enjoying your grandkids, running) and then list the 3 or 4 activities you truly enjoy (other than posting to this board) that will help you stay active enough to do those things. Shift your mindset so your 20-minute walk today isn't about losing 20 pounds, it's about leading a more active lifestyle that will keep you happier and HERE longer. :scale:

Hope everyone's having a great day off - no matter the weather!

:hugssnogs: Barb

I looked at the Flower Balis...heck, I looked at all of the bras in my hefty heifer size! (Oh, I shouldn't say that. Sorry.) At last I found a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" deal with several different types of Playtex bras, all very comfortable AND very pretty! The saleslady was a pip, and she helped to fit me as I really didn't know my current size. I walked around both floors of JCP for some exercise, and then I bought my nicely healthy groceries for the next week or so. Lo and behold, the grand total wasn't more expensive at all -- in fact, it was LESS expensive! My sister Ann also called me for some moral support and urged me to take a walk around my neighborhood, which I will do after scanning GALS.

God, I filled up on gas as well. OUCH! $4.11 a gallon! WTF?! GAHHHHHHHH...just when you need to cut corners, it's virtually impossible if you own a car in the States!

Barb, that's great information for those of us who want to alter our lifestyles. Whenever I've wanted to change an aspect of my life, I just DID IT. I didn't proceed in baby steps, I simply turned around 180 degrees and began to ingrain the new habit into my psyche and into my existence. I think that it works best that way for the reasons you astutely stated!

A really nice piece of news: My old friend Drew and I were reunited through a sad state of affairs (his dad passed away about three weeks ago), but we are closer than ever now. We didn't speak for 18 months for a bevy of reasons but now we've started anew and it feels great! He was always a true brother figure to me, one of the few straight men who can actually maintain a platonic and rewarding relationship with a straight woman. (Well, we DID attempt romance about five years ago and then decided that we'd be better off as "just friends.") Anyway, he suffers from MS but it's amazing how remarkably well he's faring in spite of the diagnosis, which was declared seven years ago.

Oh, SB, but wasn't he just so PRETTY???? That is one pretty, pretty boy that Ben Barnes! :yummy:

Yes, Barb scared the life out of me last night, but gladly I stayed on and she came home safe and sound. And don't let her fool you about that pic . . . ask her where she got it from . . . :lalala:

Donna ~ I have a sure-fire way of getting rid of the ants, but it's gross. Ready??? Get a watermelon, carve out the meat and just leave the rind IN THE SINK. The ants will attack it and pretty much completely cover it (I said it was gross). Once they're all in one concentrated area - SPRAY THEIR ASSES!!! It works out in the country, and I'm sure it'll work in a house, too. If you don't have watermelon yet (we do), I'm sure you can find something sweet and sticky (Oh, don't go there . . .) Good luck!

Anna ~ what are midges??? Sound creepy.

Christine ~ If I didn't dye my hair every 4 weeks, I'd be completely grey, and I'm 41. I started greying when I was in my 20's. Go for it! You'll feel so much better about yourself. And get your eyebrows waxed! You would be amazed at how much better THAT makes you feel (after the pain subsides, but I don't feel the pain anymore). Sweetie, be good to yourself! And YES get a good bra!! Lane Bryant has the most comfortable ones that keep the girls up where they belong!!! PM me if you want more details.

BIG GINORMOUS BOOBIE SQUISHING HUGS - from someone with big ginormous boobies!!!

Oh, I hear ya! Definitely! I color my hair (mostly my scalp) every six weeks or else I'd have two-toned locks! Right now I just look odd. Gads, I can't wait to march into Supercuts tomorrow! And I've been waxing my brows since my early teens. I need to. My brows are probably the only part of me that looks similar to Brooke Shields! Very thick follicles. It hurts to tweeze them. And I really love these bras! I'm wearing the black one at the moment, and damn if it doesn't lift the girls UP and keep them comfortable. The old bras were just killing me!

BIG GINORMOUS BOOBIE SQUISHING HUGS to all of you!
