I can't imagine a film that he's in that I wouldn't watch. At least once!

So yep, I'm a sure thing!

I'm a sure thing and proud of it. HOWEVER, I won't give one of his movies a good review just because he's in it. Case in point:

One More Kiss: Not enough character development. Good premise for a story, but fell really short of it's potential.

Timeline: Great romp, but the book was a WHOLE lot better.

And then there are the surprises:

The Jury: This one totally floored me. If he didn't actually live the relapse and draw his overall portrayal from real life, then he deserves an Emmy.

300: I went into this one with a bad feeling. Leonidas has been an icon for me since my college days. I was not just blown away by the way GB brought him to life, but the whole story was extremely well done and the photography was amazing. His portrayal of Leonidas will go down as legend.

Frankly, in my estimation, well written or badly written, Gerry's range is so amazing, he could make a sock puppet come alive. Bar none, he is one of the greatest actors of our time.

So what about everyone else? Are you a "sure thing" when it comes to Gerry's movies? Can he count on your fanny being in a seat and a follow-up DVD purchase? Or do you select only movies you really want to see whether he is in them or not?

Great topic Luv! For me I don't get to the Cinema very often but if I could "Nim's Island" would have been one I went to see just because it was my only way to see and feel tropical. Besides I am a huge fan of Jodie too! Gerry shines in all his films without a doubt but even though I went to see 300 in the Cinema (because I was at my dad's) it was not my favorite movie of him...Yes I loved "Shattered" and can't wait to see Rocknrolla but I collect his films no matter what. I love the "extras" on the DVD's the "How it was made" part of the movie as much as the movie it's self sometimes... But there is something that I have noticed and that is with time and experience he is showing us a wide variety of his talent and in much better form. His talent in acting is as good as his choices in roles and the bigger he gets the better his choice! I just hope we get to see more characters before he "calls it quits!"

I don't see that happening any time soon. I think the comment he made after Game was in jest or out of being dang tired. He was exhausted, put himself through a lot, but Gerry loves being an actor way too much to leave us.

Besides, he has so many more stories to tell us! :wuv:

Free will is a wonderous thing - I'll see some but won't see all (TUT leaves me cold).

You know, my mind wandered when I saw the title for the thread because I immediately thought of that old John Cusack movie where a 'sure thing' meant something totally different! Where was my head?

I am never a sure thing, but I have most of his DVDs and have been to the theater more than I use to. I kinda trust his judgment on the roles he picks, because now that he can pick and choose, he has picked good entertaining roles. I am looking forward to the next three. If 'Game' is like Spot said, too much 'Rave' and if it's all action and no acting, it won't be one for me to buy later on DVD. If TUT turns out to be a chick flick with tons of fluff, then I won't be buying that DVD. I've never seen anything like 'Rocknrolla'. I have no idea if I'll like it or not. I think it will be quite entertaining.

One sure thing is, I will continue to be a Gerry GAL and I will at least check out each movie. Maybe...

 It is because since he has become partner in "Evil Twins" I fear that he will do like many actors now a days...switch sides of the camera...I love Vin Diesil and his "Ridick" character but he is directing more than acting now...It looks like the "thing" to do in Hollywood lately.GULP! :nervous:

I can totally see Gerry getting sick of the acting business. I can see him getting fed up with not being offered the roles he feels he's capable of, and I can see him looking for his artistic fulfillment behind the camera. I think he's the kind of guy who once he achieves a certain goal, he needs another challenge; another way to prove himself. I don't see that happening right away, but I can see it down the road if things get too stagnant.

Meanwhile... I hope he has lots of great roles on the horizon.

While I crave seeing that beautiful face in front of the camera instead of behind it . . . I would think that Gerry directing (only a short step from producing) would bring us the most amazing movies . . . the most amazing stories. That man has a beautiful vision for films . . . and whatever makes him happy.

I still don't see him leaving acting in the very near future. JMHO.

He mentions more and more that he loves to learn and grow with every new experience (Okay gals; minds out of the gutter now!) :gutter: Ron Howard...Tom Hanks...Rob Reiner to name a few have left acting to become directors or producers.. So for me it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to imagine Gerry taking that route?

I'm going to be totally honest here whilst I had liked Gerry for a long time before I really got into him in Mar 07 I always thought he was a so so actor in so so films. It wasn't until I actually started to watch interviews which sadly we never got in the UK at the time they were done and I was not a big internet freak that I saw beyond who I felt was a so so actor. Seeing him talk about his craft made me watch films I had originally thought were mediocre at best and see them in a different light. Whilst I still felt some of the films were mediocre he really shone in them and I can honestly say he has never put in a bad performance so yes I will see anything regardless and make up my own mind.

The way I perceive things to be with him and Hollywood is and I will quote Zac - he was not amongst the go to guys. Even after the success of 300 I do not feel he is being offered the big bucks parts that I would have expected so in my eyes whilst he wants a versatile career I think TPTB probably see him as nothing more than a bankable action star and I find that so sad. I'm assuming this is why he maybe set up Evil Twins. What do we see that the masses don't. I think Comic-Con maybe shocked people(well the media) as to how big a following Gerry has and they should use this to their advantage. I have high hopes for RocknRolla because if this is as close to the real Gerry as we are going to have seen up til now in the movies then maybe just maybe Hollywood will finally get Gerard Butler.

I think he likes being in front of the camera from somewhere I read, but that can change and I'm sure he will do what ever interests him as he has stated. Personally, it is pure delight seeing him in front acting, as he can go deep inside his character and touch so many people. We already know he wants to produce, but not everyone wants to direct.

Has anyone ever heard or read anything to lead you into thinking he would want to direct? I haven't.

Am I a sure thing? First, I am not a movie goer, so something has to pull me to go see a movie. I think at first it was the anticipation of seeing if this next movie would make Gerry a star. Waiting and waiting, and finally, something did.

Now, it's more of "all my friends are getting together to see the movie, let's have a girls' night out".

I feel G is entertaining and fun to watch, with a bunch of fans. With life getting busy and other interests, I'm lucky to see his movies once in the theater now, although I do have my collection of dvds-didn't get Nim's in time for the sales last week.

I actually liked Cherry Orchard a lot...

Yep, I'm a sure thing. I don't care what kind of movie he makes, if he is on screen, I WILL watch them all, at least once.

Gerry is more than just an actor to me. (And no matter how many find it their calling to convince me otherwise, I don't foresee a change in how I feel.)

I may be "just a fan" to Gerry, but that's okay. I think that's the 'deal', I'll support him and he'll keep doing what he does best! Simple enough!

Gerry has my support, and my benefit of the doubt with whatever decisions he makes, personally or professionally, with whatever roles he chooses to take on, and with whatever projects he produces, and even with whatever pictures are taken of him, with his permission or not, or whether he chooses to give autographs or not. I will ASSUME that whatever decision he makes at the moment is made with the best information he has available to him by his own fully capable ability of sight, sound, and comprehension! I may not like all of his choices, but I will continue to respect them, because I respect him.

I'm happy to just let Gerry-related things happen, without a lot of conjecture about the future. But it's always fascinating to read what people have to say.

For Gerry alone...I'm a for sure thing!

I have 18 of his movies and continue to add..I just got Nim's Island the other day..I will so be going to see Rock-n-Rolla when it comes out cause I think it's going to be the bomb. Everything he puts out there...if I can buy it, I will get it.

I can't be a sure thing. I am an agoraphobic so I cannot go to movies. I will buy the DVDs as I have the money. I am disabled so I cannot always afford DVDs. Also if I thought a movie was too dirty I would probably not watch it unless someone could tell me where not to watch.

I do watch what Gerry movies that I have even the R rated ones and I usually do not watch R rated movies. I close my eyes sometimes and sometimes I watch Beowulf without the sound.

If I had a Gerry Godmother I would own all of Gerry's movies. I love him to pieces.

I hope I can get them all sooner or later.

I hope he would consider me a true blue fan.

Love,

Tracy

P.S. I will say this. Gerard Butler is the only person I ever called Walmart and asked had a movie came out and he is the only person's movie I ever bought on the day it came out .

Am I a sure thing? I sure am, I saw one of Gerry's flicks ( Timeline ) and was hooked. I didn't so much go out to the movies to see them but have been buying his DVD's one after another. I have to say I really loved

his roles as Gus & Captain Charles.

As Nim's is the only one of his films I've seen on the big screen I am definitely a "sure thing" for his movies from now on. To see him on a 40' screen is the ultimate. The movies I would have not see if it were not for Gerry: 300, Reign of Fire, Dracula 2000, TR2, B&G.

I think I am (and will be) a "sure thing" (of course, with the exception of POTO, that "caused" everything). So far, I saw on a big screen only PSILY (7 times) and Nim's Island (5 times), but would not go and see any of them if he was not in it. And I will go and see all films in the future, although some of them do not look like "my cup of tea". Also, I bought all DVDs available in this region (some of the films are available only in Region 1 format, some older ones are not distributed here... And I even have "Lucy Sullivan") - so far, I have 16 of them, and trying to get more. So I think I am a sure thing.
