"Burns" The Feature Film

UPDATE

January 2009

Its been a while since there has been an update on the Robert Burns film, but hopefully this will be the first of many more regular updates.

There will be an exclusive article in the Sunday Times on Sunday 25th January 2009.

This will be availabe to read on this website from Monday 26th January 2009.

The production team want to know what fans of the Bard think about the casting, and have established a section on this web site for you to cast your votes. Should it be Ewan McGregor, Robbie Carlisle, Gerard Butler or Dougray Scott! Log on to who should play? and cast your vote.

If you want to be added to the electronic circulation of future mail shots, then please log on to the section mailing lists and leave us your details. We hope to keep you informed on a quarterly basis for now, but more frequently as we get closer to production.

I find the bolded text interesting. Although none of the "cast your vote" links work, it has me "cautious" about getting too excited ... yet. Apparently, the casting has not been finalized.

I noticed that too on the website. The link worked for me and Gerry is waaaaaay in the lead, Like 80%+. The next one in line isn't even James it's Robbie.

The other part "There will be an exclusive article in the Sunday Times on Sunday 25th January 2009" makes me realize that it's the article posted. So although I'm slightly confused, based on what the website says AND the article, Gerry will be playing Burns :woohoo:

I went to the page and (I hope) casted the vote. (Who should play.../Vote for... Robert Burns). I looked at the total number of votes, and it really increased by 1 after my vote, so I assumed it worked. When I voted, GB had 78 per cent out of 134216 votes. So I hope the opinion of people is clear....:wave::wave:

If you go to the Burns movie site, http://www.robertburnsmovie.com/.........they are asking fans to pick out who should play the Burns part...they show 4 actors including Gerry but the problem is that link dosen't work!!! So is it written in stone that Gerry has the role or are they still looking?

I am over the moon!!! I knew Gerard would do it and it's great that it's happening in Rabbie Burn's 250th comemmorative year. Also this year is Scotland's Homecoming, where Scots from all over the world are invited back to celebrate their wonderful culture and history. It's going to be phenomenal!!! I'll be going on holiday to Scotland this year and I can't wait!!!

Good Luck Gerard and everyone connected with the Burns production.

Ecstatic Jackiexx

EDIT: I just realised that James Cosmo and Vadim Jean both worked on One More Kiss where a certain young Gerard James Butler made one of his first film appearances.

In this year of Scotland's Homecoming too, this is going to be fantastic!! I love James Cosmo as an actor, he's very passionate and will be a great producer.

I knew you would do it Gerard, it's in your soul to play Rabbie Burns. And yes, if it all comes together, I too smell an Oscar!!!!

if Gerry does do "Burns' in Scotland in 2009...that probably means he won't be able to commit to do the POTO on Broadway! Bummer!!!! I live 45 minuets from there! :lalala:

The news announced today seems to be very positive. I hope this year of all years sees the movie finally go into production.

The mention of the Scottish government involvement in fundraising seems to confirm that the project is now moving ahead.

Celtic Star,

I understand your disappointment, but committing to the Broadway POTO sequel was never very likely.

WOW that's good news. :pointy:

I hope I'm still here in Scotland when they start filming.

I wonder if Julia Stiles going to be in it. At one point Gerard said that she was.

Oh my this is not good maybe having Gerry 20 mins away from me

It does not say when filming is due to start but they are having a fund raising dinner at Edinburgh Castle in May. I'd rather he does this as it has been such a passion for him for years than the Broadway or London productions of the new POTO. Let him do the film version instead :yay:

This is positive news and lets hope Gerry does indeed have the role.

We have 6000 members if they are looking for investors and we all put in so much each we could raise a good few thousand pounds. GBGals as a whole as joint investors what dya say? :kisswink:

Here is a video from last evening of the First Minister of Scotland announcing the funding for the film as well as announcing it's star: GERARD BUTLER. The press release also includes a quote from Gerry about the honor in asking to play the role of Burns...:)

It's about time! It is a relief to also hear the words spoken. Gerry, I am so happy for you.

Now the big question, Are we going to see longer hair with those adorable curls?

Great News! It has benn a lot of years in coming...congrats to Team Burns, I didn't believe it would happen. I would think the movie would start filming in the Fall after the GB movie with Jennifer Aniston completes. He is going to be a busy guy this year, what with 2 movies to promote as well.

My BIG question: I don't understand why the website tried to start a contest since GB has been with the project since the first script appeared, has the worldwide fan following, and is now considered an A-list actor? And wasn't Vadim Jean his choice for Director (and a friend) since he directed him in One More Kiss?

But wierd website aside, here's to Robert Burns! And to the perfect actor to play him!

I tried the voting site and was able to cast my vote!! Gerry is still at 78%, though it appears our votes don't count as Gerry apparently has the role anyway....voting for him was still fun! No word has come about Gerry's co-stars. However, there is popular voting available also for the main characters in addition to Gerry's part. There is one particular actress, Valerie Edmond, who is miles ahead of the competition for the role of Jean, the love of Rabbie's life. Valerie portrayed Sarah in "One More Kiss". Good manners and GALS' MODS prevent me from making a comment on that choice, if indeed she is in consideration for that role!! :escape:
