lugerry
As you all know I have been very lucky in running into Gerry in Philadelphia. I swear I only knew about two of them (City Hall Presentation and the 1 time on the movie set.) All the rest were purely accidentally. For those of you who have been so supportive about these – I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have been blessed. Friday’s adventure had to be one of a kind. As said before he was in a city park around where my friend and I had dinner. My friend was in New York on a business trip and asked if I could meet here again in the city and show her more of the sights. My friend approached Gerry before I did (she is a lot more out going than I). My friend is very attractive, type of girl Gerry would like, but it seemed he remembered me and I hope for a pleasant reason. After the squirrel incident I said to Gerry “I think you are following me – this is my territory – I was born & raised here.” He laughed and shook his head in agreement. Then I asked him if he had a pocket – he said “sure”. Out of my handbag I retrieve an envelope that I have been carrying around since the PS I Love You premiere (12-9-07) I tell him every time I get close to you I lose my voice and I don’t know why – you are just a man. As he takes the envelope he says “you are so right – I am just a man.” He looks at it turning it all around and he says it looks like you really have been carrying this for a long time. The envelope is so dog eared, one flap is missing, bent, and a bit soiled, but he crams it into his pocket. I tell him if he has a chance to read it and then toss it, rip it up, get rid of it, etc. His response “why would I do that.” I thought to myself just how much of this stuff can he keep. I change the topic to that I just got back from CUT and he asks how it was this year. I thought it was great, small & very personal, and that I had met directors Mark & Brian and I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t bring a trailer of GAME. He seemed surprised. I also met his friend Ariel who was kind enough to chance off six copies of “Jewel of the Sahara” which I won one. Realizing what I just had said I place my hand over my eyes and he said “what’s the matter”! Open Mouth - Insert Foot – “well it is not one of my favorite movies of yours”. My friend comes to the rescue and changes the subject to his work-out on 300 since the trainer Gerry had on the movie is from her country of Venezuela. She also says she prefers Gerard as his name instead of Gerry (he comments on how well she pronounces it.) She also tells him she doesn’t belong to any of his fan clubs where he looks at me and I quietly mention that I belong to 2. The two of them seem to banter well together. Then she asks can she take a picture of him with us. She says the one I have at city hall of him and me he has yellow hair. He says “that will not do.” “Please do it quickly” he says “he doesn’t want to draw attention to himself” – my friend says – this is a public park – people take pictures all the time. I hand her my small digital camera and she took a great photo. Out of her handbag she pulls this large 35mm camera with a telephoto lens and the look on Gerry's face was priceless. He looks at me and says “are you sure your friend isn’t a paparazzi?" Poor Gerry – I assured him she is not. We all bust out laughing and thankfully no one is paying attention to us and then his cell phone rang – it was his driver wanted to know where to pick him up at. He shook my hand and said “thank you” – I said “your welcome” – and he walked down the path to the street where his SUV was rounding the corner to pick him up. My friend and I stayed there for a several minutes not realizing just what had happened. I found Gerry to be the person I thought he was and even more. I hope he took with him some very pleasant memories of his time here – and if he doesn’t remember me down the road that’s ok too – he left me with several memories that I will never forget. Paisleyscot
Good for you Barb! How great to be able to run into him so many times. You're absolutely right about him being just a man. He is. I think some times people go crazy and don't realize that. If treated like any other person he'll treat you right in return. Thanks for sharing your stories. And post your pictures too if you can. GBPhanatic
Good job, Barb! I'd still like to know, however, where he's "keeping" your bracelet! Delene
mommaduck
Barb, I am so glad you decided to share some of the details of your time with Gerry at the park. For most of us, it is the only way we will ever come close to having an interaction with this sweet man. It sounds like he had a good time talking with you and your friend. What it does for us is make him very REAL--not someone "out there" to be worshipped and adored (well, some of us do that, too!) Thank you so much for taking the time, and risking the negative reactions by posting your encounter. Big Hugs, Judy

Sally66
WOW Barbara, that was truely amazing. I am so happy for you and a little bit jealous, just a bit! He is truely an amazing man, yes man, and appears to be very sincere and sweet too. Thank you for sharing your chance meeting with the GALS. I wonder just how much keepsakes does he actually keep. You would just about need another apartment just to store it all! Sally
Catwoman
Barbara, you are one very lucky lady (like you didn't already know that ). Your account of your encounters with Gerry fits the image I have of him in my mind like a glove - a very sweet, regular person - no pretense. Thanks so much for sharing (very, very big sigh)...
