2010 Gerard's Grove & Phantom's Phorest News

Recommended Posts

Some of you may already be aware of Gerard's Groves

which have been planted in his name in the Highlands of Scotland. The reforestation of the Highlands is

an ongoing effort by the people at Trees for Life near Inverness along with other environmental groups.

Only 1% of Scotland's original forest remains. With your help we can bring back the Scots Pine forests

along with the animals that depend upon them.

This thread was created for the 2009 Un-raffle, but will now focus on any news about Gerard's groves.

Together we can reforest the Highlands of Scotland!

Gerard's words to us regarding his forest:

"I just heard about this Trees for Life. That is so cool!

Restoring these Caledonian forests in Scotland which is,

if you ask me, one of the biggest heartbreaks in the history of our country,

is very imaginative and different ...

Congratulations to you guys!"

A wee Scots pine.

About Trees for Life:

Scotland is a prime candidate for ecological restoration work, as it is one of the countries which has suffered most from environmental degradation in the past.

The Highlands in particular have been described as a 'wet desert' as a result of the centuries of exploitation which have reduced them to their present impoverished and barren condition.

With most other countries now repeating the same ecological mistakes, Trees for Life believes that the onus is on Scotland to provide an example of reversing the damage which has been done there.

Trees for Life believes that the work to restore the Caledonian Forest will not only help to bring the land in Scotland back to a state of health and balance,

but also have global relevance, as a model for similar projects in other countries.

If you have any further questions, please PM me!

Thanks for your support, ladies!

D, even one tree helps immensely. over its lifetime one tree can absorb over 1 ton of C02.

I visited the first grove the summer it was planted

and then last year again,

the survival rate of the trees was 100%,

simply amazing!

Our Phantom Pheast and Phantom Redux held in L.A. each November has been adding some trees to the Phantom's Phorest for the past couple of years, and I so hope to be able to visit this October when I plan to be in Scotland again Maybe I will be lucky enough to see the new plantings! I will certainly be glad to add a few more trees now as well.

Thank you Peigi for bringing your campaign to reforest Scotland over here to GALS, we are proud and happy to be able to help!!

Happy Earth Day to everyone! There is no better way to celebrate than to plant trees! Thanks for the lovely pictures and updates on the progress of this great project!

Peigi, this is a wonderful way to reforest the Highlands in Gerry's name. You are right, even ONE little tree makes a HUGE impact on the Earth. Best Wishes for continued success!

This is a spectacular idea and I'm only sorry that I wasn't aware of it sooner...but I will certainly try and help with a couple of trees in a week or so...Have to replenish the green in my bank accnt. first!! :cunning: This is why I love being part of Gerry phandom...I only wish outsiders looking in and judging us with negativity could know the good that we do besides watching over our guy!

Thanks for the heads up, Frannie

I am so proud to be a member of Gerry's fandom. I am honored that I have been able to participate in the Phantom Phorest project, and proud that we actually DO something with our fandom that honors Gerry.
