dawne
Oh, this is so great. Just the news we've all been waiting for!! :encore: DITO, girlfriend! i can NOT WAIT till SNL...i'm hopeful i'm not working overnight...better set my schedule early...do you believe that...rearranging work to watch gerry on a comedy show? oh yeah....why not...anything is POSSIBLE, right. it can be done....LOL! gerry says he'll be 'nervous'....i'm thinkin' he'll be superb working with these comedians and writers....his humor is so in sinc with their irreverent humor. they'all just fall inlove with him and try feeding him donuts...no doubt (teehee) it is going to be a blast watching the energy level....wish i couldn've gotten tickets to this show...only three hours away (lower lip pouts)
lavender1960
I watched last night's show with Drew Barrymore - I am taking it upon myself to be quality control here for the man. It was funnier than last week's show but I have to say I shake my head at how the level of comedy writing on that show ain't what it used to be - you have to understand, I am an oldun and I've been watching SNL since it began and I am a huge fan of sketch comedy - loved In Living Colour, Kids in the Hall, SCTV etc. And I just finished watching Wanda Sykes on HBO who had me rolling. Drew hosted for the 6th time, she is a skilled comedienne and only because of that she pulled some of those skits out of the fire and there is one guy Bill Hader who the critics of the show have said is the funniest guy on the show and why don't they use him more and they did last night, he was hilarious, he reminds of a young Dan Ackroyd, and Jason Sudeckis, who was in the film Ugly Truth with GB, who GB said was very funny, he is very funny even with crappy lines, so here is hoping GB with all the material his films and life should provide for comedic exploitation makes this one of the best shows of the season and the fact he is good at mimicry AND he can sing. I am guessing for sure a skit based on the Ugly Truth, I am hoping for 300, would they dare poke fun at the GB-JA rumours. what would that be Jutler, Banniston? Of course Shakira will be a ball of energy so that'll be great. Maybe they can get her into a skit. Now this is an interesting trend. Last week Ryan Reynolds had his wife, Scarlet Johansen on the show for one skit, and she was one of the highlights of the show, this week Drew had her boyfriend Justin Long on the show and he did a spot on impersonation of Matthew McConahey, bloody brilliant. So.... Edited October 11, 2009 by lavender1960
sav8821
Not sure who Gerry would have on SNL to represent his S.O. since he says he doesn't have one presently, but it would send some shock waves if say JA did a guest spot, LOL! I doubt either of them want to go there. Anyway, I am hoping the family comes in for the show. I bet that is why they didn't make the LAC premiere last week, they are most likely going to be present for SNL. I am sure he has alot of family and friends coming for this big moment. It's going to be so much fun!!!!

It's going to be so much fun!!!! That's what I'm hoping for him as well. That his family will be there to support him. I wish we could all be there for him, so I hope the ladies who are going to try get in so Gerry has as much support as possible inside the studio. [What I mean is I think they are clearly friends so they might have a hoot spoofing themselves] Then again Lolita could make an appearance, ha! Rubee815
I’ve noticed the show has been flat this season as well; last season was energized by the presidential election, this season doesn’t have that at all, they’ve also had some key performers leave the show and some of the newer members haven’t hit their stride yet. I’m sure Gerry will at least have friends there for moral support, if family members can’t make it. I doubt that a current romantic interest will be on stage with him at the end, since I don’t think he’s dating anyone famous so there would be no reason to do that at all. lavender1960
I don't know I think I would find having my family in the audience MORE nervewracking - Mom just meet me at the after party bwah.

Lady Ski Bum
That is the funniest SNL in a long long time. Each sketch with GB was funnier than the last. He looked like he was having a great time and just loved the Beauty and the Beast and Daveheart. He was great in all of them... What a talented guy - and a #2 in the country movike with a $22 milliion box office ... and he deserves it...

Rubee815
This is totally cool, Seth Meyers thanking Gerry for a terrific job! Thanks to Gerard Butler for being a great host and all-around fantastic guy. Rare to have host at Update desk and he killed it. http://twitter.com/sethmeyers21
lavender1960
Yes he did and I will also say Seth was killing his segment - perhaps it has taken him time to get used to doing Weekend Update alone, he always was on with Amy who of course has now left. I just get the sense that GB is such a perfectionist but also such a gregarious guy the rest of the cast was brought up to his level by his professionalism and enthusiasm. The fact he is multi-talented helped. A lot of the reviewers were wondering though why James Franco was on and they didn't let him do anything but sit there and look pretty. lavender1960
More good news that speaks of the power of GB, the GB factor. In late-night metered-market households Saturday night: SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, hosted by Gerard Butler and featuring musical guest Shakira, averaged a 4.8/11 in metered-market households, SNL's highest result in the metered markets so far this season. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE delivered the #1 non-sports rating of the night in the metered markets, topping all primetime entertainment telecasts on all the major networks. In fact, SNL outscored every Saturday primetime non-sports telecast on every major network over the past five months (since May 16). My translation, a whole lotta people stayed home on Saturday night just to watch SNL hosted by Gerry. http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/10/19/satur...son-highs/30815 Do not underestimate Butlermania....... GBPhanatic
Have you ever known a person in your life that is one who can come in to a room or a party and no matter how dull things might be, take hold of it and change the atmosphere just with their presence? That's what Gerry does. He is such a dynamic person and that light of his is so brilliant that I'll bet that once he leaves a room, or a party or a show, it's never the same again! It's the Butlerization effect! Delene
HazelEyes
A lot of the reviewers were wondering though why James Franco was on and they didn't let him do anything but sit there and look pretty. I can actually answer that for you guys. James Franco was in another sketch at dress rehearsal, but it got cut from the live show. It wasn't a sketch with Gerry. James had a bunch of lines in it. At rehearsal he was not in the What's Up With That sketch, but I think because they cut his other sketch, they sort of stuck him in the other one because he showed up and all. There was also an additional scene in the Daveheart sketch that unfortunately got cut along with a whole other scene with Gerry. It was actually funny - it was him in his dressing room and his "sister" came to visit from the old country and she brought a bag of rocks that she and Gerry could throw at each other, just like they used to do when they were kids. She also brought oatmeal and they poured salt on it and ate it dry throughout the scene. It was really funny I have to say - but I'm thinking they had too many Scottish-oriented stuff already. I of course would have loved an all-Scottish show! Edited October 19, 2009 by HazelEyes
Dutchie
A friend of mine and her friend posted on Facebook that they discovered Gerry after watching him on SNL. They knew some of his action rolls but had no idea he was this funny, so they're hooked now, checking out every possible pic that was ever taken of thim Way to go, Gerry! lavender1960
Thanks Hazel Eyes for the inside scoop. What a shame they didn't have an opportunity to utilize Mr. Franco more fully but yes I forgot that a lot of stuff gets cut at the last minute on SNL. Hey Dutchie [Hoe gaat het? Mijn ouders zijn van Nederland. Ik ben Canadees. Ik spreek een weinig Nederlands.] Yes I was trolling twitter on the Weekend and a lot of people knew GB from his actions films but were flabbergasted that he could sing and he was in Phantom of the Opera, the movie. Hopefully he's gained a few million more fans, ha, over the weekend and some of them go see his new movie, bwah. lavender1960
This was a cute twitter from the weekend from someone in the lineup to get into SNL kmcaulley: Gerard Butler played a joke on everyone waiting tonight. He snuck up behind the fans and went "WHERES GERARD BULTER" and it was awesome!
