MareksLadyD
It's funny but although these topics seem unrelated (tweets and movie downloads) they actually have the same theme. Its all about perception, rationalization and personal lines. Where do you draw the line with following tweets and seeing it as an invasion? When is it okay to copy or download a movie? Some say never on both counts. And yes i do realize one issue is illegal and one is not, but it is an invasion of privacy in many cases and arguably immoral. But it all comes down to where YOU feel comfortable. How many of us go over the speed limit? 1-5 miles an hour over is viewed as acceptable by MOST(notice the most I'm sure some will say I NEVER) even police hardly ever pull you over for speeding if its under 10 miles and hour over the limit. BUT how many of us think 25-40 miles over is accessive and shouldnt be done? Again MOST of us. But they are both illegal. Here's another analogy for those from the gutter Would any of you sell sex for $10? How about if it was one time with a rich gorgeous man and he paid $1,000,000? I wouldnt but I have to admit I would THINK about it Point is we are gonna do what we are gonna do and we are going to rationalize how its not so bad sor whatever reason makes it okay to us. I'm reminded of Jeff Goldbloom in The Big Chill talking about rationalizations being more important than sex. "Nothing is more important than sex." "Ever go a day without a rationalization?" Personally, I dont like Twitter, its just too public for me and appeals to the "I can make myself famous by knowing someone famous" mentality. The whole "I just saw so and so" thing reminds me of a bit David Lettermen used to do when he talked to people in the audience about their "Brushes with greatness" (I think that was the name of the segment) where someone would get the spotlight for being near or seeig or talking to someone famous. EVERYONE wants to feel special in someway. It's human nature. But I digress lol. Again its a matter of personal comfort level. It's ok to know he was HERE but too much to know he was THERE. But as it was pointed out it ALL fuels the fire. I'm not speaking from a high pedestal dont get me wrong. I have my own personal levels of acceptablity and Twitter just isnt on it when we are talking reporting someone ELSE'S every move. (notice the omission of using it as a professional PR tool, then its the persons CHOICE to put things out there and not any yahoo reporting they saw so and so on an elevator). Oh and one more thing, more a warning than anything else. It's been mentioned that credibility is an issue and I STRONGLY STRONGLY advise to take that advice to heart. Anyone can say or do anything on the internet without proof and still be taken seriously. Not everything is easily discernible as fact or fiction. I speak from personal experience that a little bit of truth can add credence and make something believable, but that doesnt mean that it is. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL. EDITED TO ADD: Sorry Katie, I wasnt responding to your post, I was typing when you posted. edited again for all my awful typo, I think I got them Edited December 11, 2009 by MareksLadyD
heISmyGspot
Next time someone sees a "Gerry Sighting" tweet, why not send a tweet about the current "Toys For Tots" fundraiser that's going on RIGHT NOW?
lavender1960
A lot of people do tweet about very mundane things, just as people converse about the mundance. Or what is mundane to one might be germane to another. Another man's trash is another man's treasure, etc etc add your cliche. People also post about the mundane at Facebook and MySpace and Live Journal and at blogs and message boards and via email and via instant messaging. It is called social networking. In the old days we used to do that by way of handwritten letters. And don't knock handwritten letters. They are the backbone of history - how we would learned so much about life in a past time because people were prolific letter writers, about the important and the political and the mundane. Archaelogists love the mundane, to them it is treasure. Because the mundane tells more about day to day life and human culture. I am not sure if archaelogists of the future are going to be able to piece it all together from our Twitters and emails etc all of which are far more disposal. An an aside, the other thing I find cool about Twittering up Gerry - all the women with hijabs on stating how hot Gerry is, ha! International Star indeed. lavender1960
The reasons many people don't phone people directly is the same reasons email has become so popular, not just as replacement of snail mail. The email is here to stay and so is the text message. They work especially well for business and for just busy lives. Just ask Gerry who has his Blackberry almost glued to his hand. If you want to see panic, watch someone who has lost their Crackberry. I am not a big texter because I am a big emailer, I send emails to other people's Blackberries, though. I text when travelling or on the road to an event - coordinating logistics, getting directions when you get lost, letting others know you are late, because you are stuck in a traffic jam etc and even before cellphone use whilst driving was made against the law where I live, I will text someone if I know they are in their car, so a ringing phone is not an interruption or temptation. Or I know someone is in a job situation where personal calls are not appreciated. Text and they can pick those messages up on a break. lavender1960
Back to Twitter, seems that a Dubai radio station is having a contest for a listener and a friend to meet Gerry tomorrow, I guess I forget how very modern and Westernized Dubai is. A cute young man attending DIFF and whose profile says he is a filmmaker looking for money and a script says he had spotted Gerry lurking around his hotel, lurking? I think that was posted in the wee hours of this morning here so mid day Monday in Dubai. Also according to the filmmaker it was raining in Dubai, it rains in Dubai? He posted a picture as proof. But it's stopped now apparently. Edited December 14, 2009 by lavender1960

lavender1960
May I say Official Spanker is a very kinky name, so apropos for this site. A few twitterers attended the DIFF Conversation and as we would expect everyone is reporting back being thoroughly entertained. In fact this twitterer, DubaiWriter is giving a play by play of the interview http://twitter.com/DubaiWriter, look for the posts marked #DIFF Gerbear in full form Edited December 15, 2009 by lavender1960

Rubee815
I don’t find Twitter to be particularly invasive at all. Not in the way paparazzi photos or TMZ or other like minded entities can be. And let’s face it most gossip rags make stuff up or exaggerate the mundane. Gerry kisses the cheek of a female acquaintance? He snogged her! Most folk if they see Gerry are happy to report where they saw him and leave it at that. There is no room to do anything else. That’s enough; there is no need to mention who he is with because Gerry’s friends are unknown to the general “tweeting” population so they are not apt to make a big deal about it if he’s with a woman for example. In fact Lolita is more noteworthy then a female companion would be! Gerry with a hot blond? Yawn. Gerry with his cute pug? Adorable & tweetable! lavender1960
Lolita is a superstar and I bet she knows it. Yes travelling the globe makes for some cool time tricks - like in 1988, I celebrated my birthday twice. I went out on the town in Sydney Australia on my birthday on the 8th, flew out of Sydney early in the morning on the 9th, and arrived in Hawaii on the 8th, in time to go out for my birthday again. By the way, I wasn't asking how he really did it, I meant where he finds all that energy... I flew 26 hours from London to Auckland and I was a wreck for 2 days... framolamdu
Kyriem But were you flat out in first class I was upgraded to first class a few times with Virgin Atlantic and have never been so relaxed and refreshed coming off a flight before and never had jetlag at all which is unusual for me with a transatlantic flight. I do expect due to time differences there is bound to be a bit of jetlag but since celebs dont really travel cattle class they wont come off feeling the same as us. Rubee815
If Gerry flew UAE, United Arab Emirates, first class has private compartments. That would be a very restful way to travel. Very different for those of us in steerage. I doubt I will ever see Gerry flying on Southwest airlines my preferred air carrier.

Bwah, you and me both Rubee815. Of course those are short haul flights anyhoo. After flying to Australia once, I consider an 8 hour flight shorthaul. That and being on a bus for 30 hours. And this pertains to Gerry, with those long legs, let's face it, steerage does not accomodate tall men at all. I was on a flight when the then Yugoslavian junior basketball team boarded, this was just as the troubles were starting back in 1990, 1991. And they were gorgeous too, ehem and yay they are all going to sit in my area, at the back of the plane, lovely, but then I thought those poor boys, I have barely room for my legs and I am 5'7 how are these guys going to cope. The one fellow sat beside me and he was almost in a fetal positon as were most of the guys and if they put their legs out in the aisle the attendants kept barking at them. I felt so bad for them. So I told the fellow beside me, put your legs over on my side, it's OK by me, and he was like thank you thank you and he was able to sit fairly normally for the 8 hour flight. Very different for those of us in steerage. I doubt I will ever see Gerry flying on Southwest airlines my preferred air carrier. Yeah, and piggies will fly to Dubai before Southwest does! My longest flight was to Manila but it was not nonstop. There was four hours to LA, four to Honolulu, five to Guam and then three to the Phillipines but I was stuck in coach and by Guam, I was pacing the isles with a killer case of restless leg syndrome! The second longest was to Anchorage this summer but that was first class all the way and back. Then a couple of weeks ago I was stuck in steerage for six hours to San Juan. I've got long legs too and my knees are practically against the seat in front of me. If I cross them, they are sticking out in the isle and getting whacked everytime an attendant goes by with a cart. I have to get an isle seat or I'll have a panic attack and I don't like airplanes because I'm claustrophobic anyway! I have a fear of heights, crowds, germs, and separation anxiety. If I could just fly the damn plane, I'd be fine. Delene
