Gerry Sings

I have not been a fan of the Jimmy Fallon show but I was gobsmacked, pleasantly surprised. Gerry was indeed on fire and I loved the Real Housewives skit and even beer pong with Ivanka. Maybe Jimmy is finally hitting his stride as a host. Certainly looks like maybe this will be a decent SNL for once if Gerry's sense of humour can infect and inspire that tired out writing staff. And Jimmy has The Roots as his house band? Cool.

And singing a Doors song, Gezza riding on the hot tamale train  [i have surmised from some of the British press that Gezza is an affectionate nickname for Gerry, just like Gazza is an affectionate nickname for Gary or Garry]

I was taping it and my DVR stopped before those end credits with some more singing Fallon and Butler, merde, that's different than mer-der, so I set the DVR to catch the West coast showing -hoping I added on enough time on the end to catch that, PTL for timeshifting.

Murder indeed - well you know MacBeth-Murder-the Scottish play :wuv: Hmmm GB as MacBeth - oh to swoon and he wouldn't have to change his accent. I will say this, Roman Polanksi's film version of MacBeth is actually very well done. I was pleasantly surprised there, it's my favourite Willy Shakespeare play.

Thats what I noticed where did the curls come from. He reminds me of how he looked at TR2 Premiere. That was so funny and like myself cursing has become like part of my every day vocab that you do not realise you are doing it. Even after being told off he still cursed  . I was quite impressed with Jimmy too as he has never really done much for me before.

Roll on Bonnie Hunt.

I did comment on Jimmy Fallon show appearance on another thread but I loved the clean shaven look. Gave him that PSILY look! Loved the singing, the green shirt, the accent, the potty mouth and Fallon's reaction. I laughed my arse off for sure! No one's ever quite prepared for our Gerry are they? I love it!

Anyway,

Glad he went down well

Thank you, Mo, for creating that mental image for me!

Cheers!

There is hair product that will enhance the curl in your hair, so keep doing that then who ever is styling his hair this week. :pant:

No pressure eh?

I love the rolling r's in the Scottish accent - my parents are Dutch and I was raised with rolling r's!

I watched this appearance this afternoon and absolutely loved it! I think it might be my new favorite... just laughs on top of laughs on top of laughs. The accent discussion was great, and in particular when Jimmy said he couldn't tell the difference between Irish, English and Scottish accents and Gerry just said, "well, you're an idiot." He was very uninhibited, and I loved that he wouldn't stop cursing. Such a silly boy. I think I'll watch this again when I get home from seeing LAC AGAIN! :D

I want him to do more of that.He sounded good, he looked good. OMG i'm gonna watch this over and over when i get in the bed today after work.

:funnyup::funnyup::funnyup::funnyup:

I saw the show this morning, and let me tell you...DAMN! Dude was looking hot! I like the scruffy, but I like the clean shaven too!

I love that Doors song and he and Jimmy did a great job at it. Of course you can't eff up too much when you have The Roots backing you. I saw those guys live years ago with Lauren Hill, and have been completely impressed with them since. They also performed with Jay-Z, and brought the house down.

I'm still on the fence with Jimmy Fallon as a host of a late night talk show. He seems very uncomfortable. He was also sh*tty on fire when Gerry wouldn't stop cursing. It reminds me of my boss....she sends us emails about the language in our department, and how it needs to stop. No sooner do we get the email then someone yells out f*ck at the top of their lungs, LOL. Ahhh, good times....

Loved it, loved it, loved it.....how can you not. I also died laughing with the "murdered" part.. for us with a little rough accent we can say killed lol...

I speak German so we also have those rough sounds with the back of the throat (of course my brother would always make fun of my rrrrrr's) and I also speak Greek.. which uses softer letters (except for some of our last names which you cannot even pronounce plus the fact that they are soooooo long lololol).

Can't wait for SNL Posted Image

Well Gerry is right, Jimmy is an idiot if he can't tell the difference between Irish, Scottish and English.

I'll grant him leeway on the regional dialects [i love accents and dialects, all of them] On the border there between Scotland and Northern England it's a bit overlapping and in the very north of Scotland you can find Irish accents but come on Jimmy.

Get with it, old man.

I mean he lives in NYC - should at least have the Irish one down pat, bwah. Does NBC have stricter policy on profanity? At 12:30 am who gives a f-f-f-f-fig.

OK, I just have to say I was shocked and saddened to see him shaved. First I was surprised, and then some not-so-nice words came out because he has stated in an interview that he shaves for a first date. So for the first half, I was sad..... but soon I got over it because he is so funny aaaaaand sexy.

The singing was so fabulous. I hope someone cuts the aired portion and the end credits portion together and put it on YouTube. I would love to listen to it while drifting off to dreamland......

I'm in heaven. What am I going to do when there is a lull in GB news............

Don't get your knickers in a twist ... I'm sure he shaved for SNL. I would guess they have various costumes, masks, maybe even a BEARD for him to wear for a skit or two, and having his own facial hair probably makes it a bit difficult to do the changes easily.

I'm not a fan of the baby smooth face, either, but since he's doing SNL it makes perfect sense.

I was surprised about that too... plus, they're going to bleep it out anyway, so why does it matter? On top of that, I've always wondered what the difference between saying the actual word and inserting a slightly varied version that communicates the same thing... fecking? We obviously get the point... Plus, I know I've heard him swear on The Tonight Show, and that's on NBC. I also can never figure out which words they deem too dirty to air. Didn't he say shite with no problem, but they bleeped out @$$ and fook?

And with the facial hair, I definitely prefer Gerry with scruff, but I really enjoyed the clean-shaven appearance. Variety is the spice of life! Speaking of which, I enjoyed the variety of facial hair that Gerry sports in LAC! :)

I'm just now watching this for a second time, and OMG, I had forgotten (so soon) how adorable the "murdered" discussion is. Especially after they move on and Gerry starts talking about LAC and he says "I play a guy whose family is murdered" and then he realizes what he said and giggles and squeaks out "murdered!" in this extremely high voice. It's to die for. I would love to have just that little piece on an audio file. I'd set my phone to squeak "murdered!" at me anytime I got a text message. :D

It reminds me of one of his appearances on Leno when he's talking about how his Mum goes around telling people that her son is Gerard Butler, and he goes "they're like who? 'Gerard Butler!'" and he squeaks it so high and fast. The first time I heard that I swear I spent fifteen minutes continuously replaying that 1 second clip, just listening to him squeak over and over! Oh this silly, silly man. :wuv:

When I first heard Gerry speak I thought he was Irish. I can tell an English accent from a Irish one...but I can't tell the difference between Scottish and Welsh, and apparently Irish, LOL.

It's especially funny since I used to spend atleast once a month in Ireland over the course of five years, LOL. I find it very difficult to understand people from Belfast, and Scotland especially if they start talking really fast!

I also have a bit of a tough time distinguishing between Australian and New Zealand accents. It can be very frustrating at times. Sometimes, I get stumped with German and Dutch accents (when theyr'e speaking English, LOL)

I do love a man with an accents. My favorites are Irish, Scottish, German and then English....

Yummy,

When I first saw PS I Love You I believed Gerry was Irish... then I had a quick refresher in what an Irish accent really sounded like, and I realized how far off Gerry's Irish was from the real thing. :)

Scottish is very distinctive in my opinion... it's just got such a harsh and kind of guttural quality to it, that I can always identify it when I hear it. The only ones I really confuse sometimes are English and Australian... but only some Australian. When people talk like Crocodile Dundee, yeah, I've got them pegged, but I thought Hugh Jackman was English when I first heard him speak.

I did think of that after a few minutes. Have no fear, my knickers are just fine :)

You got me there, Welsh accents are trickier one for me, great theatre accents - think Anthony Hopkins and Richard Burton. They tend to just sound like a softer English accent. Of course Northern Irish is a different accent than Republic of Ireland. When I was backpacking in Australia in my youth, I hung out with people from Belfast one week, people from Cork another week and ran into the people from Belfast the next week and realized what a difference, I found the Cork accent was softer, the Belfast accent is harder though the cadence is more sing songy. I do have trouble with New Zealand vs Aussie, unless you got an Aussie and Kiwi side by side. There is a hilarious site online that gives you how NZers pronounce things like when they mean to say Sex is sounds like Six and when they mean to say Six it sounds like Sex. Flight of the Conchordes, one of my favourite shows.

And of course the Glaswegian accent is somewhat distinct from say Edinborough. Seems all the Scotties I've ever met are originally from Glasgow.

I find South African very sexy as well - now I bet GB could do that one - lots of rolling r's, bwah.

But then I wonder do people in the UK etc think American and Canadian accents are cool? Can't say I've ever had anyone say oh your Canadian accent is so sexy - I get, "you speak so clearly" yes that is why there are so many Canadians in TV news and Hollywood or you said eh? hee hee. Love the New Orleans drawl though. The Newfoundland accent is the best, more Irish tinged though with some Scottish thrown in and again lots of rolling r's.

Well I am sure GB loved the Quebecois accent when he was filming 300 - he did a great impersonation of his French Canadian stepmother- rolling r's again.

Now if Gerry had trained at one of the British drama schools, they teach everyone to speak that theatrical accent all British actors can slip in and out of if they had a strong regional accent before. Ewan Mc Gregor can slip in and out of that. For those of us who love the Scottish accent good thing they didn't mess with that accent. Gary Oldman is from Souf London as I say and when he is in interviews he speaks very slowly so he stays in British theatre accent mode but when he isn't paying attention he slips back and of course many roles he is using that accent. But since he moved to LA full time about 10 years ago, I fear his Souf London accent has slipped away pretty dramatically. Unless he does a film in the UK and then it gets refreshed. One of the evils of LA methinks.

Yes, the Glawegian accent is very different from any other Scottish accent. I have to say, I don't particularly like a very strong Glaswegian accent but on Gerry it sounds wonderful!! Where I live, there is a local dialect called Doric. When I first moved here I couldn't understand a word but find it a bit easier now!!

I find it very difficult to tell the difference between Canadian and American accents. I like the American accent.

Well I live in Canada about 1 1/2 hour drive to Buffalo, my father had season tickets to the Buffalo Sabres when I was young and I was always astounded at age 10 that by just driving over a bridge the people talked so funny though very friendly and fun. HAWWWK-ey game.

I love the Glaswegian accent - give me rolling r's and gutteral consonants. Och man.

LOL! To be quite honest, once I got over the initial shock of realising that he had shaven, I thought about that statement myself too. So I thought, wow someone's getting lucky! :-) Just kidding of course. I am sure there must have been dates during the prolonged stubble period. :-)

Love the clean face look, if I were around him I would keep pinching his cheeks. :-) But against my principles, I also liked the scruffy look. I have now resigned to the fact that, against everything I believed in so far, there can be a man who can do nothing wrong. :-)
