I saw the TMZ piece and I am sorry I thought it was hilarious. Basically it was a rehash of parts of the interview. The first part of the segment shows GB signing autographs before the show and there are two guys with traffic cones on their heads in the crowd. I was as perplexed as TMZ about that.

I loved the part about Flirtation 101 and "you've been Butlered" and I am sorry but I like the TMZ song for Gerry. Very popular on Twitter.

Seems to me everyone likes to titter and toss around the term "bad boy" but they don't really want to know what that entails.

Whether it was the truth or just something he said to get a larf, we'll never know. (I don't think he hesitated. Watch it again, she barely had the question out before he answered.) MTV is not the best fit for him but he didn't book himself on the show. They wanted him and his team made it happen.

And since there is no such thing as "bad publicity"...

:2cents:

I used the term bad boy only in reference to the story that Gerard got into trouble with one of the studios and he was sent to PR school. I am not sure what incident or what he said at that time to warrant being sent "back to class".

I have to say that PR wise the PR team has certainly got GB represented far and wide in all areas of the media and frankly I think that is a good approach over all. I doubt many actors over a certain age ever get asked onto MTV. Like I said I was pleasantly surprised that young females had enough taste to appreciate a good looking male over 21 and who shaved regularly. Ie. Not a Jonas Brother.

I went through the Swinging Seventies. So the thought that some men (and some women too) might have sex in this fashion does not shock me. I’m not big on judging, nor do I feel that Gerry gave enough info in his quip for me to even begin to evaluate his comment for its veracity. And I hope Gerry does not start to censor himself, he’s fun and witty and he loves to kid around about sex, something that maybe we should all do from time to time. After all he’s not running for public office and I doubt making risqué comments will stop anyone from buying a ticket to his movies.

Dont understand the big deal to be honest.

I'm a little confused by the fuss as well. It's happened before also when a guy from Philly was recapping covering Gerry. He mentioned that at a club girls were lining up for Gerry and he took his pick then went home with 2 of them. Ok, personally I regard threesomes as tacky and can't see myself ever doing it, but from a male point of view - it's more than acceptable, it's the ultimate. Sure it means they're having impersonal sex but the majority of men don't have a problem with that either. Gerry has been in relationships, but read the majority of articles and he freely admits he has a problem with commitment. I've always translated that as "has a problem with keeping his pants zipped". Most men are like that until they meet a woman that makes them feel differently. And if they're not, they probably wish they could be. I'm sure he views it as he's single and if the women have no objection why should he. They are all consenting adults and it's no-one else's business anyway. Imagine being a hot movie star and having women throwing themselves at you, would you really be turning everyone down to go home alone? I'm sure there are times when he'd pick up a woman rather than face an empty house.

I agree with you 100%. I know that seems hard to reconcile, given my earlier post, but... I guess it's just hard to explain. No need to beat a dead horse, let's just suffice to say I didn't take Gerry's comment that seriously, I was just commenting on an issue it raised.

I think for those who may still harbor a hope that she could be the one to tame the wild beast it is difficult to accept that the romantic vision they have of Gerry may not be quite so romantic if it means he has just-for-kicks one nighters or threesomes rather than sitting by the fire reading a book with Lolita curled at his feet as he awaits "her" - the one who will capture his heart forever.

Personally I've always believed the character of Gus in Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married did not require acting on Gerry's part - I think Gus was probably very close to the real Gerry, maybe a lot closer than many fans would ever want to know.

I think Gerry is sexy as all get out, he is handsome and charming but definitely NOT the man of my dreams, so no illusions will be shattered by admissions of this type - whether they are fact or jest.

No,Steph. I get it. I'm very liberal and very open. I think we were taken by surprise, that's all. I am the LAST person to judge anyone for God's sake, and I am NOT judging him! Again, I love that Gerry does whatever he wants! That's part of his appeal. I also don't want him to start censoring himself.

Again, I think when it comes down to it, we were taken by surprise. And not in the sense that St. Gerard had a threesome, but more of oh he's a real guy who does real things. I'm not explaining myself very well.

I have a feeling the one person who is really right is Susan.

Oy you know, I've had enough, actually. This is not doing anything positive or any good for Gerry. So I'm out of this conversation. I love him, completely and unconditionally, with his foot in mouth disease. Nothing has changed. I love him, support him, respect and honor him and will continue to show up at PAs when I can. This is just a blip in the paradise of loving Gerry.

Impersonal sex with one woman or with two woman, it's all impersonal if you look at it that way.

The one thing that is a concern though - a friend of mine knows the guy who used to be Michael Hutchence's security guy prior to his death. And he said the problem with these rockstars and he also has worked with other bands and artists, so he has seen it all, he's been the "herder" is these guys keep upping the ante on the sexual thrill side so that staying at home with the little woman and being monogamous doesn't cut it even for the guys that are married or it's very tough to go back to normal after living like that for many. Michael had steady public girlfriends, though uh some of them overlapped, but he also slept with groupies and fans, he had f**k buddies, long time female friends with benefits. He had one girlfriend we know was in on the threesomes. They would pick fans out of the crowd at concerts. When he died, he was in a relationship with Paula Yates the mother of his child but also having an affair with one of the back singer on the tour the band was on at the time and a 21 year old college student from LA. However when he died all his ex girlfriends, the main ones, were devastated - they all seemed to have forgiven him his transgressions, it was as if no one could get mad at him, he had stayed very good friends with his first girlfriend, Michelle Bennett [the one he should have hung onto] in fact she was one that found him dead, poor thing, and he has fans that are still in love with him, which is spooky since he is very dead. That would be my only caveat there - what is the line from the song, how are you going to keep them down on the farm after they've seen Par-ee [Paris].

Perhaps the converse argument is men that beautiful and sexy just shouldn't be exclusive property of just one woman. Who knows. It is what it is. Was it GBPhanatic who referred to Wild Stallions? Bwah.

I guess when it comes down to it we are not going to all agree on this - some are not surprised by any of it, some although not surprised he admitted something like that are just shocked that line of questioning was allowed at this time and in turn he should have known better not to answer and then there are those who are just not happy full stop.

I think newbies into Gerry's fandom could be forgiven for actually thinking Gerry is quite proud of the image the gossip mags and certain sections of the media are labelling him as IMO he seems to be doing more to be known as a celeb than to be taken seriously as an actor and I personally find that sad. He has worked too hard over the years and I appreciate most stuff is rumours that comes out but his foot in mouth disease does not help him at times

Scotsmanstuart-YOU ARE AMAZING!thanku for putting the link up x :pointy:

THANKYOOOOOOOOOOOO :pointy:

I personally dont think he was teling the truth over the 3some thing, within the last year as such BUT it wouldn't suprise me, as he is a grown man's man..a famous brilliant gorgeous actor we all love, but human after all, and if he has done this then so what..most men would, and lets face it he above all is in the best position to fulfill his fantasies, and if they were all consenting then go for it.

He isnt in the wrong for answering, if anyone was (tbh I thought it was a bit of fun), it was MTV for allowing that line of question at that time in the day.

I do not believe he "is" Gus anymore than I believe he "is" The Phantom.

He's a hard-working actor who's life is his own and who likes to shock people when he's bored. Anyone who believes the gossips and paps is as naively challenged as those who believe he sits home by the fire every night.

He is probably as bemused as I am that grown women spend days 'tsk, tsk, tsking' over every joke or word he utters (and download and keep track of every single one of them). People who post and snicker over suggestive and raunchy comments here get upset by what he says to startle the horses? Real people who actually know or work with him have repeatedly been impressed by the fact that he is not the image created by the press with or without his help.

Has he ever experienced a threesome? Who knows or cares. Was he joking on MTV? Yes. Or if he was telling the truth he is celibate the rest of the year. Is it necessary to make character judgements on the basis of a brief, joking interview on a 'push-the-limits' outlet? Well, I don't think so.

This is where fandom becomes really tedious.

IMO Gerry was just having some fun here. He was anticipating most of her questions with 'the Butler did it' and even said 'the Butler mostly always does it' LOL. The question about stalking ex girlfriends on facebook he answered in the negative and then winked at the audience and cheekily whispered 'all the time'. Didn't anybody else notice when he answered about the 3somes that he kind of grinned and did that thing with his tongue kind of indicating, to me at least, that it was all tongue in cheek. He's like a big kid at times who just loves being naughty and shocking. He was enjoying himself IMO and rightly or wrongly possibly thought those kids would get a kick out of that particular answer in the context of the silly game they were playing.

I know Gerry has made a few faux pax in past instances. One time I saw him say something personal and risque in an interview and he kind of cringed and muttered 'Oh no, my Mum'. I don't think in respect for his mother at least that he would 'seriously' admit to something so sexually personal and intimate on live national TV. JMHO. Besides, how long before any girls he 'picked up' for 3somes would go running to the tabloids to blab about it? Gerry has always stressed quite seriously that he prefers to keep his private life just that and his relationships/liaisons out of the media spotlight.

I would just point out that no one publicly knew the full story of the lifestyle that Michael Hutchence was leading, beyond people close to him and band insiders who kept their mouths shut, this band was very good at keeping things under wraps actually, until he admitted it all in that Playboy interview in the mid 1990s and then people started writing bios including his brother and the band after he died. People knew he was not interested in marriage and he had girlfriends and that he was not faithful to them, the fans thought he was faithful to Paula, though, but that was the full range of the knowledge of most of the public and fans - for whatever reason, women did not go running to the press to talk about their exploits with him while he was alive. Then again it was the era before the internet. Michael also suffered a serious head injury in 1992 which most of the public never knew about until after he died either, that injury did effect a lot of his behaviour thereafter.

To me those revelations just put a lot of things into perspective, and didn't detract from the brilliance he has as a songwriter/singer and otherwise fascinating and sexy man.

Having said all that, I do think Gerry is the kind who like to shock and exaggerate. He also changes what he says all the time - I had to laugh - he said he was actually boring in one interview last week and all the media outlets picked it up and in an interview just posted they asked him so you say you are actually quite boring and he said "well it depends on the day you ask me, today I think I'm quite exciting." Ah that boy slays me. Very effective methinks, keep contradicting yourself so then no one is exactly sure what is the truth. Sounds just like a politician.

I'm going out on a limb to say that I think Gerry may have a little something in common with Mike Chadway from The Ugly Truth. Specifically, when Mike said to Abby, words to the effect of "I'm really a man of discriminating taste and you're a foul mouthed slut."

Gerry seems paradoxical. He has a persona he presents to the media/industry. If he were as promiscuous as he sometimes seems, I would think that there would be a lot of scandal attached to him. If he's getting as much action as everyone thinks, how is it kept so quiet?

It has been my long belief that in actuality, Gerry keeps his true self very close to the vest. It's safer that way, of course.

I pay very little attention to what pops out of his mouth, especially in an 'interview' such as this one.

You know, I was too a little confused by the fuss... I've heard worse things than that, and people who were telling these stories, well.. they were not famous like Gerry. I guess it's really easy for a male movie star to get how many women he wants... He's single, he can do whatever he wants, right?

I would have been more shocked if he admitted to have cheated on all his ex girlfriends.

As for his career, someone really thinks it's gonna be damaged by that funny improbable admission? What people like Russell Crowe or Robert Downey Jr. should do then??

It looks like elsewhere from stuff I've read he has gone down in alot of peoples estimations by even answering that question regardless of whether he was being truthful or not

Moira

Exactly my point. Damn.

Threesomes. Okay, I have to admit that I laughed when Gerry answered this question, but at the same time it sort of hurt me inside. I'm not going to make any judgments on whether he was being truthful or just joking around for shock value, but that feeling still lingered in my head and heart. I find threesomes to be the ultimate depersonalization of an activity that's supposed to be the most intimate and personal that two people (TWO people) can engage in. People can do what they want, and I swear I don't judge... but the thought of Gerry doing that just makes me a little sad inside.

So well stated. When I read this I realized that this is part of what I was feeling. Not a judgment at all but sadness. Gerry is a big boy and can do whatever the hell he wants. But if he's gonna say things like this then he has to realize there will be reactions to it. He may not give a rat's arse what anyone, including us fans, think. And that's the way he should live his life. I just don't want to know about it. Selfish? Probably.

Yeah... and really it's no different than imaging him having a meaningless one-night-stand, which wouldn't surprise me... but something about a threesome is just so dehumanizing and objectifying. Even a one-night-stand though, you can romanticize it and go all Terminator like "in the short time we had we loved a lifetime's worth," but you really can't do that when you think of threesomes... it's just sex. Plain and simple.

Well anyway, the fun thing about this is that we can tell ourselves that he was 100% joking and retreat into blissful ignorance... if we want to.

Sorry to bounce back and forth on this.

Steph

I agree-I hate to see people base their opinion of Gerry on the answer he gave. I support Gerry in his career and hope that he has a great time in Scotland. He said in a Canadian interview he was going there in about 3 weeks.

If he was a married man there would be scandal, he is a single man and most people expect single actors, particularly good looking famous ones, to behave in a certain manner, so it is no big whoop.

By scandal, I was thinking more along the lines of paternity lawsuits. And you're right, his answers in this interview are 'no big whoop'. I'm certainly not privvy to Gerry's private life/actions/activities. I'll happily leave that to him and let his conscience be his guide.

And in today's day and age, paternity suits are barely blips on the radar screen as well - unless you are a Disney "product" aimed at Disney audience. See Mick Jagger and several rappers. The only effects on Mick was that Jerry had it with his indiscretions and gave him the boot and he had to open up his wallet twice. He is known for being cheap. So that was painful for him. No one cares or even remembers now.

My interpretation of the whole threesome/twosome deal is that the only "some" he's been gettiing would be at 3am? :lalala:

LOL! Good one! :-)

Still, a threesome wouldn't surprise me, it's a kind of experience that a man in Gerry's position would probably like to play with at one point. I mean, he has the motive (as most men, famous, gorgeous or not) and on top of that he has the opportunity. So I am not surprised or shocked even if it were true. We as women think differently so for me personally it's not the kind of thing I would be interested in, I'm only child so I don't like to share and expect undivided attention! :-) But if I were a guy maybe I would like to try it, at least once. For guys it seems that sex can be just sex and nothing more, with us there's more emotion and attachment.
