lovetheeloquence
Thats why I have watch his movies and interviews repeatedly. (Thats my story and I'm stickin to it!) I love the way he says everything. He could stand and read to us from the phone book and make it sexy as hell. Like he doesn't know why we are crazy about him? Please. Sexy devil. He just can't help it. Sure he could. I can just see him now, standing there with his weight on his right foot, balancing the phonebook on his left hand, peeking up at us every few names, giving us a cheeky smile. Just the sound of his sexy gravelly voice would get us. "Aaron A. Aaronson, 555-0123" This man exudes charm. And he knows it. Don't let him fool you. Steph Steph -- your comment was so funny! Personally, besides all the wonderful spoken Gerryisms he has, I love it when he rolls his eyes (like he did in PSILY), and when he looks like he has a questions on his face but then it turns into a smile...sigh... I, too, love to watch his formal interviews. With a backround in Media Relations I have to say that for the most part he is a publicist's dream...so well spoken, disarming and spontaneous. I didn't like the interview with the game "The Butler Did It," because it was classless and he is quite a bit more sophisticated than that. But I am sure "his team" schedules him to reach all different demographics. Also must say I love his winks. What would we do without all his wonderful Gerryisms? phoenixgirl
I think we all have our favorite words that Gerry says. And if my son wasn't blaring the Fresh Prince of Bel Air right now I could think of one. I watched B&G last night and the way he says "boat" and "boots" is sexy as hell. Oh and "twins", but I like WATCHING him say that in RNR.

Oh and "twins", but I like WATCHING him say that in RNR. Yes! "We've got the hottest twens, probably the most expensive escort girls ever to have escorted." On a related note, he rolls his R just magically on the next line... "and they have been grrrrrreased down just for the Bobski." I love love love RnR. Just watched it two days ago. My absolute favorite words from that scene though have got to be "dirty b*stard!" And I'm lucky because he says it twice. Steph
phoenixgirl
I think RNR and Timeline are two of the best movies to listen to him (where he has a big role). I think my favorite word in Timeline is "ruins". OK I think I now know what I'll do tomorrow - watch Gerry interviews and figure out which words I love to hear him say. Thanks for giving me a reason to get up tomorrow, Steph.
AbandonThought
My pleasure Lisa. "Ruins" is a great one! I think my favorite is when he yells at Lady Claire, "get out of the way, woman!" although it has nothing to do with the particular words, and everything to do with the tingly feeling I get at their combination. phoenixgirl
Now I started thinking this morning ... I've been mentioning the WAY he says things, and not WHAT he says, which is what this fun thread is about. Silly me .... I have to watch some interviews today. I also know that our friend Isaboo LOVES the way he says "potatoes". So cute. Lord he would roll his eyes at us if he ever read this.
Dragon Slayer
My latest expression is not what he says but how he says it...'wha hoppened'. I use it all the time now. Also the way HE says his name...GerARD, shortening the ARD. I use brilliant frequently. Don't use fanny pack in the UK the way we use it in the US, either. Since having been to Scotland, I use 'sorry' all the time when I want someone to repeat what they have said, only it's 'sorey' the way it's pronounced. I try to say his name properly, but without the accent. I usually end up saying it "Jered". I think when I try to say it correctly, I just sound stupid. I can roll my "r"s with the best of them (I'm half Cuban); it's just that it really sounds silly coming out of my mouth.
cybrsal
I'm confused as to why we have another Gerryism thread. I like the thread, but why have two about the same thing? Can we keep Gerryisms all together on one thread, please? Sally

jojo23
So just watching his interviews again (i'm glad I actually have a proper excuse to ) i've noticed some more things that he says a lot. 'Ye know...' - He says this A LOT. In the Conan interview from this year, he says it at least 30 times. Yes, yes its true I counted. Or he says 'ye know what...' 'pretty much... and 'literally' are common too. Don't use fanny pack in the UK the way we use it in the US, either.Your right. Never say this in the UK - it means something completley different. When I first heard it used in an interview ( I forget which one), I nearly fell off my chair laughing but then realiseed it must not mean what I'm thinking!!! He's lost that so much. The lilt ... know what I mean? Enjoy - I can't get enough of watching this ...
Knight Phantom
Hey Steph and Lisa, I had an idea (I know scary thought!), since y'all are focusing on what Gerry says and how he says it, perhaps we should call this thread "Butler's Book of Phrases". Then there wouldn't be any confusion between the GALS Book of Gerryisms, and what goes on here. Whadda ya thin'?
lovetheeloquence
Have to say I love the notion of the whole rolling rrrs potential...for some reason it's getting hot now in my house...hmmm, why I wonder why. In Rocknrolla I also love when he tells the Bobski it's alright to be a "poof." Ha! Two more favorite gestures... The way he can't hold his legs still when he is sitting and being interviewed. I love this, he's like a little boy getting a hair cut! AND...he constantly puts his hands together when he talks. Maybe he picked this up from the Phantom scene that was cut ("I Learned to Listen'). Shamrocked
The way Gerry says "down" just get to me! Also in interviews when he goes off in a different direction on a question and then innocently asks with a smile "What was the question?" He does that a lot and we love it! In order to keep the distinction between the two, one being GALS Gerryisms and the other being Gerry quotes, words, or gestures, I have implemented Deb's suggestion of "Butler's Book of Phrases" and edited the topic title. Now, as for me, I love when he says "...at the end of the day" which basically means to sum it all up or when it all comes down to it. Oh and when he said erudite in an interview once...*sigh*. Songbird
You're welcome! I sent Steph an email about the title change; hope she sees it first! Lisa, I'll rack my brain and try to remember which interview wherein he said 'erudite'. It may have been just an audio ("pairhaps" one of the fansites conference call interviews?).
