gerran
Has anyone seen the first film version of the Phantom of the Opera, the silent film version done in the 1920’s. I’ve heard that it’s supposed to be a horror film, and me and horror do not mix. I really want to see this film, but I want to know how scary it is. Is it really a horror, or is it more like a thriller? Thanks.

It is beautifully executed, and Lon Chaney's makeup is amazing. It is not a horror film like we think of today, with blood and guts and so on. If you have read Leroux, you're more than adequately prepared for this movie.
gerran
Oh, that’s good to hear. I wasn’t scared at all reading Leroux’s book, but I don’t tend to feel too many emotions when I am reading. I feel more emotions when I am watching something. I am interested in getting this film for Christmas, though. Thanks for your words of encouragement.
