Watching this was painful. He was so completely exhausted, and watching him rub his eye and hearing the tired in his voice killed me. I know I sound so over-dramatic, but I mean it. I honestly hope with all my heart he is now resting, taking care of himself and letting some of the work go.

No you're not over-dramatizing, I felt the same way, heart-breaking :-(

I remember a long time ago, I made an observation where I commented that Gerry sometimes burned the candle at both ends and I was immediately corrected that this was not true. I believe what I meant was that Gerry sometimes plays hard at the same time he works hard or he tries to combine the two, to an extent. That's what's going on now, I believe.

Hopefully, he's winding down towards the end of this year, taking the holiday season off for some rest, no press, no interviews, etc. and just finds a nice place to fall. Maybe he needs to just hang in bed for two or three days, watching movies! He spreads himself thin trying to be everything for everybody and you can't do that all the time.

"Gerry, come out to the farm, flop in the spare bedroom if you don't mind four or five dogs sleeping with you. You can even bring Lolita! Then go with us to the Virgins! You can bunk with Scotty! You've met him before, I think!" :kisswink:

Try to remember that video is also only a minute and a half.

Exactly my point, though. Imagine how exhausted he was if he was like that in just a minute and a half!

The full thing is now in our MM ... he's clearly so friggin tired he can't even think straight and answer questions. It's just heartwrenching for me.

He has pushed himself harder promoting this film then the others (and he always works hard promoting his films); there is more at stake for him. He might not have relaxed as much as he should have while in Scotland. As much as he loves his family sometimes it’s not always easy to relax in those situations ether. So, however he chooses to rest, home in New York or LA or somewhere else, I hope he gets a couple of months of somewhat unstructured time more or less out of the spotlight. That’s the advantage of being a free lance actor; he can take that time for himself. If I were to offer advice (that would cause some eye rolling from him I'm sure!) I would suggest he stay in one place for a few weeks, no traveling! That takes it's toll too.

This was not a good press conference for Gerry as he was just so lacklustre I am sorry to say. This should have been so important for him and his schedule is catching up on him which is so sad to see. For your own sake Gerry go on the downlow for a while it will do you and us the world of good.:kiss:

Let's put this in perspective. Gerry does appear exhausted and actually on the verge of becoming ill in this conference, but he is making his own choices and doing things his way. He COULD take more time to rest and recover, but that's not how he rolls. He like excitement and action and his body takes the abuse, which he will unfortunately pay for later.

On the other hand, men like my husband go to work every day, come home exhausted and then go back and do the same thing again the next day. In most cases, these guys don't have the luxury of choices and options that Gerry has.

Gerry really needs to learn the discipline of rest, because as he gets older, it's going to become more difficult for him to recoup. This video makes me sad in one way, because he is obviously feeling miserable, but in another way it ticks me off, because it doesn't HAVE to be like that.

I hope he gets through the press junkets in one piece but unfortunately, the press will likely put a bad spin to this.

I love the guy, but dang...

I agree that time spent with family you don't see on a regular basis can be stressful, especially when it's a large family and events like birthday parties are involved.

I think it's time Gerry gets back to New York or LA, whichever place he really prefers. Then he should lock the doors, turn off the phones, shut off the lights and go to bed. I think he's pushed himself just about as far as he can. The eye thing is a red (no pun intended) flag IMO. If he won't stop this crazy pace on his own, someone on his staff should knock some sense into that gorgeous head.

He's a grown man and I dont see what lamenting over the fact that he needs rest is going to get you. Gerry does what he wants and always will. Lather, Rinse, Repeat for him. Does it all the time and if he likes it then I love it.

Landa, I think it's kinda like when you're watching a game on TV and you're yelling at your team. You know that can't hear you but you still wish you could send some kind of "vibe" through the universe to help them along.

Gerry does like it and he's like that little kid that runs himself hard at play all day until he drops and then still fights to keep his eyes open.

Unfortunately, and hope this NEVER happens, he may get one of those "wake up calls" some of us get from time to time that tell us things need to slow down or go another route. I see that Gerry's energy level is just like the Energizer Bunny but even his batteries are going to run down one day. I just don't want to see him get sick. Stress can bring on disease no matter how healthy you think you keep your body. It catches up with you and as much as I love him doing what he loves, you can overdo and Gerry might be the kind of guy, no matter what people around him recommend, he's going to do what he wants to.

Thank you for saying it better than I could. I'm one of those worried about the "wake up call". But I'm sure Gerry knows his limitations, probably pushes past it a bit and then relaxes. If the Michael Jackson plant pics were taken today, he already looks more rested. I bet he can sleep a few hours and feel refreshed, but he needs to remember that he's not bionic and does have physical limitations.

I say this with all the love in my heart.

Swan I loved this point. My husband works 8 hour days on a GOOD day mostly its 10-12 and then side jobs on weekends. (he does heavy contsruction type work half the time) He is exhausted, but he keeps trudging on like we in the real world have to do. Yes Gerry is tired, its been a helluva ride lately and he's riding it for all its worth. But if everyday heros in our lives can do it then I have no doubt Gerry will be just fine.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I've never seen him look so exhausted. It was rather frightening to see him so tired. I was a nurse for many years and worked 12 hr shifts sometimes for 9 days in a row etc. However, there comes a time that you have to let your body rest. (The one time I didn't pay attention, my body did by getting double pneumonia) Nature will take it's course. He needs to rest and cancel all those interviews.

I guess mothering him is one way to think of it. I can think of others, not so motherly but maybe just as affective! :cunning:

Delene

Yeah, I'm not thinking mothering, but I'm also not thinking in a sexual sense either. I simply care about Gerry and his health and well being. I would love to give him some much needed TLC ... he's like any normal man who needs a woman to take care of him.

And let's be real .. it's just fun to think about.

Hmmm... I wonder if Gerry isn't way ahead of us on this point. He was obviously well aware of how exhausted he was, and my guess is that if he sees any of these interviews after the fact he's just going to cringe. Too much! Too tough! Too fast! But, let's face it, he wasn't just going to cancel these interviews because he was tired, was he? Okay, so the schedule this time was a little (a lot) too hectic. Put that lesson in the bank, and cash it at the next movie premiere, babe!

I'm certainly not making light of anyone's concerns with my above comment. I am on the exact same page with the rest of you, and it--for some time now--has been breaking my heart to see how exhausted he is. (I just keep thinking, 'now he'll be able to rest,' 'now he'll be able to rest;' yet he never seems to get any rest!) Anyway, as I was reading everyone else's posts this alternate perspective came to me, so I thought I'd throw a fresh idea into the conversation. :)

Oh Gerry, don't make us worry sweetie! :wuv:

Though Gerry loves to talk about his roles, this is the downside of his profession. He is so tired but expected to do all the junket stuff. He definitely earns his paycheck!

I think the thing is and I have been there with my work and school, sometimes you have no choice but to go hard for a period of time KNOWING THAT normalcy or a long break is coming and you just push through - what I find though is I almost always get sick the moment I relax after a period like that. Presumably he has probably a couple month break coming as in he doesn't appear to have any obligations related to a film beyond trying to get new projects off the ground for a few months.

It looks like March will be the gear up month. That is when the Anniston thing comes out and presumably shooting for Coriolanus begins around that time or shortly thereafter. Not sure if he will be required to do anything special to train for the role in Coriolanus and I'd feel better if we'd heard they have got all their financing in place. Might be worth researching, maybe the Fiennes fans have some more word. But I also know as someone who is not sleeping too well myself, part of it is a lack of discipline, you need to make yourself get a proper sleep esp before important events, because they say that you never gain back the benefits of getting a proper sleep just by sleeping longer later. Let me rephrase that. Everyone has different requirements and you need somewhat less sleep as you get older but on average you should be getting no less than six hours, eight is preferrable but for every hour less than that, the effects on health are cumulative, supposedly you can't get that back just by sleeping for 12 hours on the weekend. I know this but I still give into my insomnia.

He is also working much harder this junket because it is his baby and so you want to make sure you did everything you could to make it a success which it appears is the case so now Evil Twins Productions are in a good place to get going on the next project. I'd probably be doing the same thing if it was my baby and I'd be worried and unable to sleep until I knew the numbers were going to be good.

I'm right there with ya, Lavender. In fact, I just got finished with one of those big pushes myself. My professors have been piling the reading on us since they realized that the semester is almost over and they haven't covered as much as they wanted to (geee... thanks!). Plus, I'm taking an extended holiday, so I had to push to finish some stuff due Monday by tonight. Ergo, I had insufficient sleep every night this week. Especially last night... only got about 4 hours. I was only able to do it because I was focusing on the entire week that I'd have free after that.

I'm sure Gerry's doing the same thing. My guess is that once his birthday celebrations are over he'll give himself a break. :)
