heISmyGspot
www.news.scotsman.com SCOTTISH actor Gerard Butler has been voted the best British actor in Hollywood by film fans. Burly beefcake Butler, 40, best known for his role as King of the Spartans in 300, beat Christian Bale and double Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis to the title in a poll of more than 1,000 British movie buffs by online DVD and games rental service Lovefilm. Kate Winslet, one of only two women to feature in the top ten, came fourth. Another Scottish actor, James McAvoy, who starred opposite Angelina Jolie in Wanted and Keira Knightley in Atonement, secured fifth spot with 8 per cent of the vote. Pin-up Robert Pattinson, star of the first Twilight movie and its highly anticipated sequel New Moon, came seventh, while tough guy Jason Statham – who has appeared in Snatch, Revolver and Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels – came eighth. A third Scot, Ewan McGregor, who shot to fame in Trainspotting, came ninth. Emily Blunt, who won over film fans with her hilarious performance in The Devil Wears Prada, completed the top ten. Helen Cowley, editor at Lovefilm said: "The poll shows that Butler and Bale have got some real bite in Hollywood. "And even though Robert Pattinson is getting some deserved attention, it's the older generation of actors that still have sway in Hollywood." LadyMacbeth75
Well, good! Let's hear it for those old (?) Brits! If Robert Pattinson is still a major star when he's as old as those guys, maybe he'll top the list someday.
Sasharose
I know absolutely nothing about RP except that he is the star of the Twilight series. So, I never knew he is from the UK. I thought he was American. Am I reading this correctly? Anyway, glad to see that a UK poll finally recognizes G. Way to go GB.

Susan~Sporran
I am thrilled to see Gerry win and that far ahead of RPatt (probably wouldn't happen if poll was taken in the US). Sasharose - Pattinson first came to attention as the ill-fated student who died in one of the Harry Potter movies, so definitely a Brit. And speaking of Twilight, this was probably mentioned last week, but I've been away so my apologies if it's old news - in the cover story of this week's Entertainment Weekly the Twilight trio were asked what actor's careers they would like to emulate and one mentioned by Taylor Lautner was Gerry, because he can go from toughest action hero to rom-com films. I knew there was a reason I liked Jacob best (no, I'm not a Twihard - I only saw Twilight for the first time 2 weeks ago on the plane from London to LAX). AngelofMusic
I`m very happy for Gerry being named # 1...some really fabulous actors made that list, with of course Gerry headlining it My favorite actress actually made the list too, Kate Winslet. And speaking of Twilight, this was probably mentioned last week, but I've been away so my apologies if it's old news - in the cover story of this week's Entertainment Weekly the Twilight trio were asked what actor's careers they would like to emulate and one mentioned by Taylor Lautner was Gerry, because he can go from toughest action hero to rom-com films. and I, actually made mention of this late last week, in the New Moon forum lol. I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly, and I saw this bit and was really loving Taylor for giving Gerry props.
