Shamrocked
Happy Sunday morning from frigid Delaware! It's 22 degrees F--wind chill 11 degrees F. Been watching the weather channel a lot lately and see that a lot of the GALS are experiencing the cold all over. Stay warm and safe, where ever you are, galfriends. We were lucky here with minimal snowfall but it is still as cold as...*fill in your fav phrase*... and the ground is so frozen! Oh oh weather channel now says snow Tuesday here. I don't know how much longer I can take this! Anna: Thanks for the Anniversary wishes. Yes, there will be many more to come. It does seem longer than one year for me as I lurked for a while before I joined up. I love your pics of the plants. You are so lucky that things will grow for you. I have nada luck with plants. Warm hugs to everyone! Diane Edited January 10, 2010 by Shamrocked
neofyght
Yep the deep freeze is in Iowa also plus snow last night -10 around 2am when I went to bed, snow is level w/my deck and windy also--supposed to warm up to low 30's by mid week and then drop again--I have spent the last 2 days setting up 4 new cell phones for my family--still don't have ringtone on mind right but gave up till Monday--Gerry's looking good in those pic's--really anxious for the new movie just a couple more months. Susan~Sporran
I've been reading and watching the Weather Channel about the terrible cold throughout most of the nation (and evidently the UK and Europe are getting hit too). Don't hate us here in Southern California where it has been unseasonably warm the past several days - sunny with highs in the mid-70's. Still no change on the mom front. She is in skilled nursing and probably will be until next weekend. Tomorrow I will tour one more place in the hopes of selecting just the right one for her continuing care. Thankfully her spirits are still good but it is so bothersome to see her hardly able to do anything for herself when she was so active just a few weeks ago. Today David and I went to see Avatar on the huge IMAX and wow, what a movie. First I was struck visually by the computer graphics of the world James Cameron created, gorgeous and unlike anything I've seen before. Then the story just resonated with me so much about connections - connection to each other, connection to nature, connections within nature. I chose to ignore the political undertones and champion the philosophical ones.
neofyght
Susan I was dealing with sick parents for 2 yrs--nursing homes and hospital and home care--my Mom died on 3/18 in a nursing home she was 83. My Dad had also been in and out of the hospital and had open heart surgery on 3/9--he was in a nursing home for rehab when my Mom passed but we were able to take him to see her and he was able to go to her funeral--he doesn't really remember much. Anyway he's doing real well now and is home and even driving some. Hope your Mom gets along ok--my thoughts and prayers will be with you. I am waiting for Avatar to come to our IMAX it looks fantastic--wish our IMAX would have showed 300 but it's connected with the local museum and won't show R rated movies--still cold here but is supposed to warm up later this week. My son and his wife left for Mexico today hope the weather there is nice--Good luck on finding a nice place for your Mother.

Susan~Sporran
Thank you for the kind thoughts, neofyght. I'm sorry you lost your mom. Mine is also 83 and they told me today she will be released on Monday because her progress has plateued in therapy. Now it is struggling to get enough information from her insurance carrier to make sure we can make the right choice based on how much the policy will be paying. Right now I have her set tentatively to move into the place I toured yesterday. It is close by, it is the only one that has a pool (my mom loves to swim), and even though she will be in a shared room it is actually a one-bedroom apartment where she will have the bedroom and the next person who moves in will get the living room. All the other shared rooms were two beds in one room, so this offers more privacy and is more like where she lived before. They have lots of activities and things to help keep them engaged, and it is a facility that specializes in Alzheimers care. I hope it is the right choice, I guess if it isn't then we will be moving her again. I will need to get her some furniture because her old mattress is ruined (and it was ancient already). Hopefully we can get all that in by the weekend so she has a fairly seamless transition on Monday.
MadameAngel
Hey, GALS. How I miss you all. I seem to be able to find time for facebook and other useless things, but never to come on here!! Every time I log back on, I'm intimidated by all of the new names I see here in the SC. I guess it's no more than I deserve, though, because I never come on here anymore. For those of you who remember me, I'm now in my sophomore year in college. And to think, when I joined here, I was barely a sophomore in high school! Aaahhh, that is so bizarre. My, my, how time doth fly. Speaking of school, I should be reading the Odyssey right now, but, obviously, I got side tracked. I hope everyone is well. I'm thinking of setting this as my home page so I remember to check it out every now and again... What do you think? Much love, Amber

neofyght
Susan glad to hear you found a place it sounds nice--hope the move goes well--the social workers here were very helpful so if you haven't talked to them --you might want to make contact. I would like to know what is going on with our guy--I saw those pics of him in the sexy pink swim suit and he had gained some weight--now just a few days later he looks all buff--no way he could be sucking it in that well--he has to breath sometime and tee shirt and jeans won't cover up that much--how's he doing it ?? :pant:

Texas gramma
It looks like Gerry is hitting the gym again. Did you see his arms in the latest photos? YUM!! Of course, we love him no matter what, I'm just sayin'.... It's wet and drippy in San Antonio, but the temps are in the 60s and it sure beats heck out of the misery others have been suffering. Anna, the Weather Channel showed a satellite picture of all of Great Britain and it was totally white from coast to coast, through England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. I've never seen that before! Hope things are getting better for you guys. Elissa and I are hoping our little 'Angel Tour' Mandoll, Scotty arrives today. We were soooo lucky to win the raffle for him and we are all set for his homecoming. There is even a beautiful blond waiting to greet him! I hope he will be as happy with us as he was with our beloved Dee. She is watching from Heaven, I'm sure! My little Teeny is sitting here with her legs crossed, but refuses to go outside to do her business because of the rain. Guess I have to go get the umbrella and go out with her. Spoiled much? Hope everyone has a great day! Hugs. Suzie Edited for spelling: DOH! Edited January 13, 2010 by Texas gramma
Anna
The latest photo's are fantastic, Gerry is maturing like a fine wine. Just popped in to say 'Hi', we are snowed in again, when will it end? I couldn't get to the optician today, just call me 'squinty'...not! There is no escape from the snow as everywhere in the country is suffering, my son in law's car went sidewards on the road today, so frightening. Take care everyone, keep warm, hugs, Anna x Just wish you could smell these, are'nt they growing quickly? Must be the hot house we are living in, I have to keep moving them around to cool down. GBPhanatic
Hi all! Temps have gone up in to the forties here today and things are melting. I hope the ponds melt enough so that we don't have to keep defrosting water for the horses! What a pain! My dogs were used to having fun running across the ponds as they blended right in with the ground so I hope they realize the ice may be too thin to tread now. My Jeep hadn't been started in over two weeks so I drove it up to the barn this afternoon. Found a UPS package in the barn! The guy won't come up to the house. He's afraid of the dogs, the wus. Well, didn't get to go out on my BD Sunday due to weather so postponed festivities until this coming Sunday but will have to be back home for the GG Sunday night! I like to go to Dave and Busters on my birthday! Good food (tempura mushrooms, yum) and lots of fun! I love the flight simulator! We're going to all do lunch so we should be home in time for the Globes. Love the new Gerry photos. Nothing else to report. Delene
auntm
Hello all! Been awhile, but have been fighting off every flu bug known to man...barely making it to work and into bed -- even called out a sub twice...unheard of for me. Susan - sorry to hear, but very very glad you found a place similar to where your Mom has been, but close to home. More than that, close to you so you can make that round part of your timetable. My thoughts are with you. Anna - yes my friend, you are snowed in. I keep looking at those webcams, and my oh my, snow drifts from Ullapool to Southhampton are just so unusual. you stay in and warm and dry. SOUP! That's the ticket..and tea...and if you are an Austen-ophile.....a little gruel will set you up just fine! Suzie] --- I can just see your puppy crossing her legs waiting for you to get out the umbrella! That's one pampered pooch! Sue! --- how are Bonnie and Butler doing in all this rain we've been having? Are you doing dawn patrol with an umbrella in hand too???? Ray -- keep those drawings going....they are amazing. Now what a REALLY need to know -- how is this new goose doing? Are there any new reports on our newest protected species? Any news there? As someone (sorry, I can't find it now)... this IS the most amazing group of friends and the most supportive place. Thank you all for being here and being here for each and everyone one. Alright. Night to one and all...."and so, off to bed." Jill
irish
everyone....well, Bonnie got me up a wee bit early this morning....I definitely need my . Anna, I see you my sweet friend.......have a cup of tea with me while I drink my coffee and admire your flowers. Jill, I actually decided not to take Butler and he was given to a family here in Redding who has an autistic daughter. Until Bonnie is a wee bit older and behaves like Lassie and Rin Tin Tin all in one I decided I couldn't really do two puppies....not with having to take them down to Bryan's house...(he actually helped me in making this decision...lol Suzie, poor wee Teeny....did she get soaked? how about you? lol. I guess we are in for it this next week from what the news says.....big storm coming with heavy rain and bad winds (I HATE the winds more than anything). I wish I could potty train Bonnie to use the toilet (but I'm having a hard enough time potty training her to go OUTSIDE...lol. Actually she's doing pretty good. hugs to all. love, Sue
