Aussie_Stace
Whenever I watch PSILY, I'm always bound to cry in 3 specific parts: 1...after Holly & John walk into the travel agent & the woman hands them a tissue box. Because the next scene features beautiful rolling green hills & a place that I've always dreamt about visiting 2...when Holly is in Ireland & reading Gerry's letter near his childhood fort, and he rests his head on her shoulder (that's the last time we see GB in the movie) and 3...right at the end when Holly takes her Mom to Ireland. Yeah.....Ireland turns me into an emotional wreck & so does PSILY
Texas gramma
"2...when Holly is in Ireland & reading Gerry's letter near his childhood fort, and he rests his head on her shoulder (that's the last time we see GB in the movie)" Oh boy, that part gets me every time. The other time I just about lose it is when Holly goes crying to her mother talking about it being so unfair to have lost her husband. I lost my husband too and I really identified with her meltdown! Hard for me to watch. (If you think that's bad, you should see me when Christine sings "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" in POTO! I usually have to leave the room!) lovetheeloquence
PS I Love You was the second movie of Gerry's that I watched...Phantom being the first, and only about a year ago. I cried pretty much through the entire movie the first time I watched PSILY. Well, the first several times. I have never made it through the film entirely without shedding a tear. And I still must be in a "good place" to put it in and watch it. It's such a beautiful movie, with great acting, but it's one of the hardest films to watch, at least for me...and sometimes I still find myself questioning WHY it is so hard for me to watch it, besides the obvious sadness. I have my own theories, but at this point the theories are still personal and not completely clear to me. So, for me, I find myself tearing up most often in these three parts, in no particular order... Near the end in the stadium when Daniel asks Holly, "What's wrong friend?" and Holly replies, "It's Gerry. It's been a year and I don't feel him around me anymore. I think Gerry's gone. He's really gone." Also near the end, in the stadium, in Gerry's final letter when he writes..."So here it is, the big one. Don't be afraid to fall in love again. Look for that signal when life as you know it ends." and finally...and it's an hour and a half later now because I just had to watch the movie again to be sure... When Holly and her mom take the walk where her mother hands her the final letter from Gerry and tells her, "It's the last one. So alone now or not you have to walk ahead. The thing to remember is that if we're all alone, then we're all together in that, too. It helps me sometimes." I have to say that the scene in Ireland you mentioned when we see Gerry Kennedy for the last time sooooo moves me, and usually makes me cry, too. But I love it anyway. When Holly holds the letter to her heart and Gerry puts his head on her shoulder is now one of my all-time favorite scenes in a film now. It's absolutely beautiful! The other very poignant aspect at the end, for me, is that the final letter is not read with Gerry's voice, but by Daniel instead which sends the powerful message that it really is over. As a viewer it is so hard not to hear Gerry's voice that last time. Such a very beautiful and truly heart wrenching film. PS -- Gerry played Gerry Kennedy beautifully. beacon1
The letter about their first meeting (and the scene depicting it) and the head on the shoulder When she's in bed remembering flashes of him in the apartment getting ready for work. When she sees him in the livingroom playing the guitar and she puts her arms around him. When she feels him spooning with her. Kalyn
I think I was teary through most of the movie but I loved it so so much! The parts that really really got me: - When he was playing the guitar and she put her arms around him and she said "I can't fall asleep alone". - When he is spooning her and she says "I can feel you hugging me" and he responds "Thats because I am hugging you." Oh I was a complete mess at that part. - She is reading his letter by his fort. When he laid his head on her shoulder I totally lost it again. - The part where she asked if he was still there and she got no response. - And where she runs to her mom. My husband makes fun of me when I cry over movies. He watched this one with me and of course made fun of me. I think one of the biggest reasons it made me so sad is if something happened to him I would have such a hard time moving on.

Jennifer10
The scene where Holly comes running into the bar crying to her mom, and Cathy Bates says something like, no matter what or who we're with, we're really all alone. That just killed me. I've felt alone most of my life, even when I've been in a crowd. The last scene where she reads his last letter, and P.S. I Love You starts playing. The lump in my throat is so damn big, I can barely swallow and keep myself from balling like a baby. On a good day I'll shed a tear or five, on a bad day, I'm a human water park. The ultimate cry for me, (and I HATE admitting I'm a cryer), is the last song, "If I ever leave this world alive"...I can't even read the damn lyrics to the song, without turning into a blithering idiot! If I ever leave this world alive I'll thank for all the things you did in my life If I ever leave this world alive I'll come back down and sit beside your feet tonight Wherever I am you'll always be More than just a memory If I ever leave this world alive If I ever leave this world alive I'll take on all the sadness That I left behind If I ever leave this world alive The madness that you feel will soon subside So in a word don't shed a tear I'll be here when it all gets weird If I ever leave this world alive So when in doubt just call my name Just before you go insane If I ever leave this world Hey I may never leave this world But if I ever leave this world alive She says I'm okay; I'm alright, Though you have gone from my life You said that it would, Now everything should be all right She says I'm okay; I'm alright, Though you have gone from my life You said that it would, Now everything should be all right Yeah should be alright Edited March 24, 2010 by Jennifer10

My throat was so sore from crying from this movie. Adding to seeing the movie is reading the book....I must've gone through half a box of kleenex reading the book. The book/movie is so touching because everyone has lost someone(or many people) so almost everyone can relate. I lost my beloved grandmother over three years ago to heart issues/hepatitis C/liver cancer and still feel a deeply profound sense of loss. I always feel I never told her how much I loved her enough. I so want to find a guy like Gerry Kennedy....do guys like that really exist? I haven't found one yet....Maybe all of them are in Ireland. I'm currently planning a trip to Ireland, England and Scotland for late spring of next year.

Oh sweetheart take it from a 45 yr old woman who is in a bad marriage, that dreaming and fantacizing about guys like Gerry Kennedy and/or Gerard Butler are about all we can do to get by, and make the days/nights better. If there are any Gerry Kennedy's out there I would think they're already taken, or sadly, really only exist in books/movies and in our minds/hearts and fatasies. I am so sorry for your loss. That is terrible. I have lost a wonderful aunt to cancer that ravaged her, and a grandmother who died over 20 years ago, that I still mourn as though she passed yesterday; she meant everything to me. Know that she loved you, and she knew you loved her too. She isn't suffering any longer. I feel your pain, and I am sorry.
