3/19 - Movie Goers love The Bounty Hunter!

Recommended Posts

I'm really disappointed at the negative reviews the movie's been getting :grrr:

...but I'm glad you've all been enjoying it!!

I haven't seen it yet. I'd hoped to go when it opened here on Thursday, but that didn't work out. It was my mum's 82nd birthday today so we had a family celebration and now I'm babysitting my granddaughter. I'll definitely see it tomorrow though.

Cheers,

Vicki

I saw it today and absolutely loved it. I laughed and sighed all through the movie especially at the towel scene! Hmmm, not too sure about THOSE shorts & THAT shirt! Definately going back to see it again.

Was a bit disappointed that Richard Wilkins on the Today Show only rated it 3 stars. I think he was being a bit harsh. Anyway, I loved it and that is all that matters!

Cheers

i had mixed thoughts about this film. i didnt enjoy it as much as tut, i didnt think it was as funny, but it was more action, were as tut was funny in the verbal situations. i thought the scenes which jen and gerry were in were hilarious, and i thought jen was really good as we dont normally see her in such a physical film, or gerry in a comedy action film. we saw it a little bit in rocknrolla but not much. i thought they were brilliant together.

i didnt think too much of the storyline and also i didnt think the other people in the film were that funny, but there were a few exceptions. its hard to explain about the film. i did see it twice, but thats a thing i do with gerry films, but its a bit like my thoughts on gamer, there were parts i liked but overall it wasnt a favourite film.

i didnt come out of the cinema thinking wow, but ok it was quite good, which is what i thought with tbh, unlight lac and tut where i came out and thought bloody brilliant.

i agree gerry looked gorgeous in this a bit between, one two and mike and my favourite so far. i thought jen and gerry had great chemistry but you cant have great films all the time, even though, my man gerry is in it, and i think a true fan can take the not so good with the great stuff without getting touchy.

Sue I think you and I are in agreement here - could be the minority :lmao: For someone who loves the action comedy/romcom genre I love Gerry's performance and I think it's only because of him that I can honestly say that I like the film. I have seen it twice and enjoyed GERRY even more on 2nd viewing but still felt the same about the movie overall.

I have tried to figure out why the critics seem to be more harsher on Gerry than Jen and I personally think it's because they know he is a great actor and have seem him in more quality stuff and possibly think this is below his talent.

There is so much of the Gerry we know and love that he brings to Milo that you'd be hard put not to find a fan who wouldn't like the film for his performance alone. :yay:

I know I'll see it numerous times for Gerry alone and that glint in his eye :drool1:

I saw it yesterday. I loved it!!! It was hillarious. :rotflmao: To see Gerry in those shorts was priceless. :snort: But my favorite Gerry's outfit in the movie was a white towel. Yummy. :behave: I just can’t help it.

I am defiantly going to see it again.

Love you Gerry! :hearts:

Box office coming in, looks like $22,000,000 for weekend at number 3, Wimpy the kids movie will be number 2:

http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/03/20/...d-place-finish/

Not bad, good for Gerry to have a 2 movies in row opening over 20 million. Gerry has also outperformed Matt Damon's movie last week and bested Jude Law this week.

You're not alone, Sue. Then again, it's not my genre of movie so I knew walking into the theater I wasn't going to come out thinking it was a great movie.

However, I do feel that Gerry was very very funny with what he was given, and his charm, personality and TALENT shines through the rest or the movie. So that makes it worth it seeing again. Maybe not 6 times like TUT, but definitely another viewing today.

I didn't think Jason S was funny at all. I thought his character was useless and didn't add anything to the movie. Every time he came on the screen I internally groaned and just wanted him gone. I really was expecting more from Gerry's description, but I was sorely let down.

The other outside characters were great. I LOVED the couple he worked for. I wish they had more screen time than Jason S.

OK - Steph and I are off to breakfast and one more viewing of BH. Maybe I'll let her on the computer later and she can give you all her own take on the movie (she liked it better than I did).

And we're off .... :flee:

I agree about Jason (and I really like him!) but he was wasted here. There were too many pointless sub plots that dragged the movie down. But I liked Gerry & JA. When the movie focused on them it worked. I loved the whole Honeymoon cottage section. Carol Kane!

I agree the scenes with Jason were just childish humour. I'm currently just about to see it again and it's mobbed so it's obvious the public are not paying one blind of notice and will make own mind up :yay:

i'm sure I'll enjoy Gerry's performance even more than I did the first 2 times

I'm going this evening with my sis. I have made it no secret that from the moment this project was announced, I was underwhelmed. I've stayed away from reading the professional reviews, because I knew from the outset that critics would shred this movie... but I HAVE been reading reviews from Gerry's fansites, and I think this is the first time I've seen so many fans respond negatively to one of his recent films. I think even GAMER received better comments than BH is getting. Of course I will make up my own mind when I see the film tonight, but I'm not expecting much.

To be honest, it takes more than great shots of Gerry's beautiful face and body to keep me entertained, and I find myself wondering, what on earth made him agree to do this project?

There MUST be better scripts out there! Speaking as a fan, I am disappointed that either he is not being offered better scripts or perhaps he turns them down? I know he is capable of better work, but he needs the raw materials of a great script with great direction and fantastic co-stars.

I hope his next slate of projects give him the opportunity to show the depth of his talent.

Anyway, I'll post more comments after I see the film.

Agreed, Swannie. I hope this is the last of this genre for Gerry. He has so much more talent than was showcased in this movie.

I saw it a second time, and nothing changed my opinion. It's a vehicle for Jen, and a showcase of Gerry's gorgeousness. Pretty much, that's it. I also have to say that I figured out the "secret" before it was revealed, and I'm not good at figuring those things out.

However, I'm really glad so many others are enjoying it. I hope Gerry makes a ton of money.

Oh! There were two older ladies (60's or even 70's) in the theater together and I swear they had GALS. They giggled and laughed at him just like we do. It was really cute!

Saw Bounty Hunter last night with 6 co workers and friends.....we all enjoyed the movie....I kind of agree it's not my favorite by far.....it was really slow getting going.....and agree a lot of time was wasted on stupid side characters.....I loved everything with Gerry and Jen...I like their chemistry...my favorite scenes were the patio dinner scenes...couldn't get enough of those close ups of Gerry...his eyes, were mesmerizing......I was really touched by the scene where he makes her cry for real, when she sees the sign on the roadside, and of course the kiss.....I love his tender side so much....great Gerry performance as usual...without Gerry, probably wouldn't have went to see it....I love TUT a lot more....looking forward to the new stuff on his plate....JMHO

Alright, time for my take! I know you guys've been waiting for it...

I really really really enjoyed it. I don't think it's "the best movie ever," but I have to say, I enjoyed it more than TUT. I'm not huge on romantic comedies, and I thought the action side of BH spiced it up beyond the ordinary. I always enjoy crime stories. :) I wish that it had been rated R so that it could have been a little naughtier, but ya know.

I didn't expect the critics to love it. In fact, I kinda expected that it would get slammed. Unless it has Sandra Bullock in it, they never like romantic comedies. Still, I thought it was a cute film and I do think it'll be a hit with audiences.

Sound track was AWESOMELY done! The first time I saw it I was practically dancing in my seat... In particular I thought that the scene in the casino was so fun.

Gerry was great. He was funny, and silly, and there were so many scenes were you just looked at his facial expression and couldn't help but say "awwwww!"

The snog was definitely not up to par, though, agreed on that. But still, cute.

I loved the little side characters, played by very talented actors, who kept popping up throughout the movie. I've always loved the actress that played Theresa, and I thought Gerry's kiss with her was just hilarious. I enjoyed Gerry's accent work in this one. He sounded more American than any film ever before, and I thought, in at least some scenes, he did a great NY accent. Though, it did seem to be absent in some scenes, and he was just generically American. In particular, the scene when he and Bobby are eating I thought it was very thick NY.

Anyway, that's that for now. I can't wait to get this one on DVD, I genuinely enjoyed it. Milo can put me in handcuffs and take me into custody anyday. :kisswink:

Went to see a 2nd time today. I enjoyed it more the 2nd time. There we ladies in their 60's and 70's, guys of different ages and even girls in their teens. Gerry reaches all ages ...Everyone seemed to enjoy it - a lot of laughs. Facebook fans are also enjoying it.... so go figure, it may do o.k. despite the critics... I hope so... even the sountrack sounded better... Love The Big Guy.... :wuv: Linda

Aren't ladies that age so cute, Lisa!? They just giggle and laugh at Gerry, and have all these perverted thoughts and sexual fantasies, just like the REST of us do! Who'da thunk it! :rotflmao::sarcasm:

I think Gerry is way beneath his talents on this movie and I think he's such a nice guy that when he was approached by Jen he probably accepted the movie before he even looked at the script, knowing him! It's like watching a thoroughbred racehorse pull a flower cart, with a hat on!

I enjoyed the movie and will see it again. Gerry's just too cute in it.

The scene with Jason was a bit weird. It would have been more effective if he'd either been real sleezy or overly nerdy and geeky. He was too "normal". Not funny.

I understand that they are trying to show Jen off but come on! She should have lost those shoes right off and her clothes should have started to look a bit worn and dirty! She didn't seem real! She was freaking at a piece of pond scum on her neck! Remember Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone? Now that was funny! I don't think JA is willing to get down and dirty to make a good slapstick like that! People want to see people messed up!

I have to say, however, that in our small town cinema, we had a bit of excitement during the movie. A man started choking on something and someone started doing the Heimlich on him, wrong, and I thought I was going to have to jump in to action but it dislodged and he sat back down and continued watching. What a trooper! I thought that was a good sign that a little thing like choking was not going to stop him from watching the movie! Take that, critics!

I hope I didn't come off condescending as that's not my intention. I know we have MANY Gerry fans that age on GALS. It was just really cute to watch people I don't know react that way. LOL

My son was really irritated with Jen in her shoes. At the evidence room scene, Jason leaned over to me and asked, "Wouldn't you have taken them off by now?"

I am so ashamed to say I haven't seen this yet :tantrum: Gerry movies always seem to come out on a non-payweek for me so I am completely broke. Not to mention that it's hard for me to leave the house.

I so can't wait to see this though! I have my cousin coming to stay with me this week and I was dying to take her because she's a big fan of Jen's and Friends and I know that with her I could probably stomach the trip (we're close and lived with each during childhood). I may have to just wing it and see how next week goes, though. I'm so excited that it has such a great response! I know I'm going to love it already.

Amy? I thought your name was Melodie?

So, here's an idea for you to go see it. Have your cuz pay for your ticket in exchange for room and board. I'd hit her up for dinner too.

I saw this movie for 3rd time today - im a sucker for punishment :lmao: while I just love Gerry as Milo my feelings on the movie have not changed too much. If I'm liking it more I know it's because of Gerry. Lisa you mentioned "secret" was there anything "secret" in that film???? I'm just a bit confused :pointy: There was not a twist or anything i could see.

I really do think the critics have been harsh in their slating of this film and im convinced like i said the reason Gerry seems to be coming off worse is they think he is above all this and dont want to see him fling away a great career. I am just glad HTTYD is out next week as a film of his will be getting alot of praise.

That's why I put it in quotes cause I think it was meant to be the "twist" (probably a better word than "secret"). To me, that was supposed to be "Bobby". That's what I was referring to.

Steph...I agree!

I wasn't going to chime in again, but now I am!

I LOVED it!

I went for the opening screening of it here yesterday and immediately let everyone on Gals know after that...I LOVED it!

MOST IMPORTANT...to temper this I need to say that, as Lisa said, I am not a fan of Gerry doing romcoms. He's far too talented to spend too much time on them. But he did great with this one. And yet, though I do love our guy, and I liked Kathryn Heigl on Grey's Anatomy...I really didn't love TUT. I feel The Bounty Hunter runs circles (lol) around TUT! And I think Gerry was able to show more of his acting talent as Milo than as Mike.

For me, Gerry really shines as Milo in TBH...much more so than as Mike in TUT. First, you can tell he was so much healthier and felt so much better during the filming of TBH. He looks great and seems to really have enjoyed playing the roll. And let's face it, the lighting STUNK in TUT! The lighting was geared to showcase KH and was way OVERDONE. In my opinion the Milo character is a much more human, deeper and realistic character. I loved Gerry as Mike Chadway, but Chadway didn't have much dimension. I love Gerry as anyone, just like we all do. But would Mike Chadway REALLY have fallen for an Abby? Nope. Would he even softenened up as much as he did? Doubt it. Milo just seemed more like a real person you might actually meet. A person who is still hopelessly in love, a bit ornery, sweet, and human.

You all can ask Kathy if I was a Jen A. fan prior to this. I was soooo skeptical about her in TBH. I really always have been just so, so about her as a comedian and actress. I only watched Friends here and there. But I really thought Jen did a good job here. She was cute, sweet, silly, sarcastic and vulnerable. As far as the characters go, I have to say I liked Nic way better than Abby. Just my opinion of course.

As far as the supporting characters, I thought they all were good. I know some have said that the Jason Sudeikis character was pointless and not needed. But actually, the character was needed to facilitate parts of the plot...watch again and you'll see why. I loved Siobhan Fallon Hogan and Jeff Garlin...both quite talented comics...and it would have been nice to have more of their characters in the film. I always have been a huge Christine Baranski fan and have never been disappointed by anything she has done. For me she is underrated and underutilized in the film world. And I bet she and Gerry had a blast working together!

At least in the three showings I sat in the audience reacted great to TBH.

This is the important thing I told Kathy I felt about the overall appeal...

We all already know and love Gerry. In our books it's pretty hard for him to do wrong. And, let's face it, he really always does a great job. Sometimes more so than others, just like all of us. But there are still a whole lotta' people out there who don't know a thing about him. There really are. And I think that those who saw him for the first time in TUT see him more as a cad because of the very nature of the film, even though he is not Mike Chadway. People I know who saw TUT and didn't know what else he had done were very turned off by it, which made me so sad because I know what he's done as Erik, The Stranger, One Two, Attila, Leonidas...he is just such an incredibly versatile and talented artist and I want the new Gerry viewers to see that. Mike Chadway is a pretty tough character for people to warm up to.

Milo, on the other hand, was very likeable. And from a "family" standpoint the appeal for TBH is much broader. We all know why.

So, anyway, way more than you asked for. I am just glad that I was surprised by TBH and liked it. I truly didn't expect to...lucky me. I hope it does great.

Now I am looking forward to Coriolanus...that's MY kind of GJB film. Wahoo!

TOTALLY forgot two of THE most important comments...ha!

First...Gerry rocked the towel once again! Oooooooooooooooo laaaaaaaaaaa laaaaaaaaaaaaaa on THAT!

Second...I really think the most beautiful shot of Gerry's face in a movie to date - at least for me - is shown for a split second in this film. I am sure my mouth dropped way open. Wow. Guess I'll have to go see it again tomorrow, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...to be sure.

I'll get back to you.
