3/19 - Movie Goers love The Bounty Hunter!

Recommended Posts

I hope this is the last of this genre for Gerry. He has so much more talent than was showcased in this movie.

Seriously, I hope he does make more romcoms in the future now and then! He's got great comedic timing and there's nothing more romantic then a scene with Gerard Butler.

It's a vehicle for Jen, and a showcase of Gerry's gorgeousness.

I agree with this, more then you know.

Oh! There were two older ladies (60's or even 70's) in the theater together and I swear they had GALS. They giggled and laughed at him just like we do. It was really cute!

I think the reason this comment generated the response it did is because you make it sound like women of a certain age are not expected to have those kinds of feelings anymore and it's unusual or "cute" when they do. I'd bet Diane Sawyer, Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren would all beg to differ in that regard. The "older" woman is not the typical cookie baking, scarf knitting little old lady people think. In fact, they make up the bulk of the boomer generation which should be the focus target "market" for audiences these days but it seems movies and television still set their sites on the younger, shall we say, less than intelligent audiences or the ones that are more easily parted with their money (18 to 45 male). Dumb rationale, if you asked me. Power is in the numbers, that silent majority you always hear about.

I can tell you that there are a lot of people on this site in their 60's

and believe me, life experience only accelerates the acknowledement

of Gerry's professional abilities, brilliance, intelligence and talent.

Age increases the senses, not the other way around. With age

and experience you appreciate the finer things in life even more,

and believe me, Gerry is one of the finest things in life,

Sandy

Sandy, you da woman! :highfive::clap::thewoman: Nicely said! Give me a high fiver and all that! Thank you so much for your eloquence. Sometimes I feel a bit sorry for those who qualify or pidgeon hole a group off because of age, race or sex, whether they sugar coat it with terms of endearment or not. They seem to forget that they will be at a certain age someday, if they're lucky, and hopefully they have a better attitude about it by the time they reach it or they may want to shoot themselves.

Again ... I absolutely meant nothing other than it was a DELIGHT to see two older ladies, much like many of the wonderful women on this board that I have come to consider very good friends, enjoy Gerry.

I'm not sure why my comment is being taken negatively. I simply enjoyed watching two women enjoy watching Gerry. I guess the fact that I mentioned age was my mistake.

I apologize if I have offended and insulted anyone. I absolutely DID NOT say it was crazy or impossible. I said it was WONDERFUL.

Lisa, you're not making it better. LOL! Sure it's wonderful! Why wouldn't it be! Why would anyone feel the need to point that fact out? It's as if you seem surprised, that's all!

When I joined this site, I came on seeing no ages and I do that with most people. The only time I see an "age" factor or even color is when that person points it out to me and either believes they are better or less then I am because of it.

The movie was not bad. It will not win any awards and I'm sure no one believed it would when they made it! Gerry was adorable, and partly because we love him, but mostly because HE IS ADORABLE and I'll bet he still earned some new fans despite a lack luster review. What counts is the box office. We just need to lighten up on it. This is not the end of the world here and as much as I want him to succeed and get past being defined as a sex symbol rather than a great actor, I am still hopeful and confident and why can't he be both?

He does have the acting chops and as soon as he can ditch the "lady's man/womanizer" label, the better things will get. He does tend to use that to his disadvantage and if I could give him any advice I would say, "Gerry, button up just one more button on your shirt." If you want to be taken seriously, you have to be serious. That's all I would offer. His sex appeal sometimes overrides his acting and his acting abilities are there! It's like Jen Aniston I believe is trying to play on a sex appeal thing herself and she is so "girl next door" that it's not working. Hollywood tries to build on sex appeal other then talent sometimes. They don't care if you're entertained as much as you're turned on. They'll still make their money. JMO.

I heard one critic who was brutal on the movie admit that he doesn't like Gerry. That's where a lot of this negative press is coming from. Believe it or not, men can be vicious when they are jealous and believe me, that's all it is. I can understand the concern the average male might have to live up to the ideal of a real man that Gerry personafies to women and they know they'll never be like him. I can understand it's very threatening! It's about time males get to feel what women have had to feel being bombarded by the images of what a sexy woman should be.

Once he proves himself a viable, strong actor, like he did in 300 and really in several of his other movies as well, and ditch the image he aquired, he'll shoot to the stars much faster! It's happening right now but it's a process and we have to be patient.

Just keep in mind that what I wrote here was NOT my review of the movie, I have no review to write, as I have not seen the movie. I was just relaying what someone else who saw it had told me. It did well at the boxoffice with $21 million, and that is a very impressive start. The remainder of it's run will tell whether or not it makes its budget, but so far it has done well. Just don't want anyone to mistake what I said as being my opinion. I'm just the messenger...don't shoot me!!!!

Delene...why wasn't Lisa's SINCERE apology good enough for you? If that isn't "rehashing" something that this thread had gotten past, I'm not sure what is.

I have not posted comments on Gals much just because so many times, despite advice and "caution" from the moderators, I have seen situations like this that approach an overly personal nature.

I finally chose to post in this thread because I like what Gerry did in TBH. But again I see what is supposed to be a celebration of a positive public response to his work turn into somewhat of a battle.

Makes me sad, personally...and taints something I was enjoying if only for about 48 hours. Learned my lesson AGAIN...this time for good.

Why did you find it necessary to relay that "message" on to a "support" site? So what if someone else didn't like it. To each their own so why rehash the negativity here? That's all I'm saying. Be a messenger of good tidings rather then bad. Make love, not war and all that.

With all respect, why do you feel compelled to come to her defense? It was more amusing then anything else and yes it is suppose to be a comment thread on the movie, NOT THE MOVIE ATTENDEES!

People need to stop being so sad and sensitive about the little things. The people in Haiti are the only one's entitled to be sad and they've got better attitudes then some that are disappointed in a movie, for Pete's sake! Life's too short to quabble. Get past it and have a nice day! Geez!!

We were all being so nice and respectful but it looks like its going to be a big bun fight so I'm stepping in here with my MOD hat on :tantrum:

As long as people are being respectful of each other any member is entitled to voice their opinion of the movie whether they like it or not. Some seem to like everything about the movie and can find no wrong while others single out Gerry for alot of praise but think the movie in general is just ok. Respect is needed by both parties - those who love it should not make those who find faults with it feel they are being disrespectul to Gerry and likewise those who find faults should not try and challenge those who love it.

Gals has always tried to be open minded and not too heavy handed when it comes to differences of opinions and i hope we remain that way.

Opinions are like arseholes, every one has one and no two are alike:) To each their own and all that. Play nice kids:)

All of those things and more....but about the movie, haven't seen it yet but Mom and Sam did and enjoyed it. WIth all the issues they have had lately in AZ, it was just what the doctor ordered. Some female bounding over some Gerry and laughs.

I went to see it already twice for Gerry and I wasn't disappointed. He could be reading the phone book or packing groceries in a brown paper bag and I would love it. Mostly all the ladies there were over 60 and loved it and laughed along with me. They say laughter is good for the soul. I kinda agree with them. Anyone know where I can get a pair of those what I thought were pj's that Gerry wore???

Right on Cheryl & RD!

What the heck is a "bun fight"? Is that something Scottish or a typo? I'm not being a smart arse, I really want to know.

I think those who find fault with the movie or know people who do and want to express it here should consider what they say is for the rest of the world to see. Maybe we should have a "roast Gerry" thread somewhere out of the public view. I think it's just better to say nothing or that it wasn't your cup of tea. The next thing you know, people will be jumping on the band wagon over at JJ and saying, "even his fans thought it sucked" or something to that affect. And by the way, it did NOT suck. I enjoyed it! I didn't walk out of the theater pondering life's message or anything but I laughed out loud and I will see it again, if for anything other than to see Gerry in the pastel striped outfit again!

I think it's perfectly fine to express what you liked and what you may have not liked about the movie, the actors, whatever, this side of bashing it that is, but keep in mind who may be viewing it on the world wide web.

Just saw the film. OK - maybe wasn't the greatest but it was by no means the worst film I've ever seen. (There was a trailer before the movie for a film that I nominate for 'worst film' sight unseen. The trailer was awful!) I loved all the performances, I had no problem with the actors, but it really isn't a rom-com and it isn't strong enough to be a mystery or action film either.

I fault the script and the director. All the right elements but it just doesn't seem to take off. On the other hand, I can see watching it at home, without the pressure of critics and box office, and having a pleasant time with it. I will buy the DVD because there are things in it I liked. And the theater was almost full and NOBODY walked out. Just an OK day at the movies.

I, too, hope he will pepper his career with comedies as he goes along, maybe smarter, tighter ones, but I like him in comedies as I do in other types of films. He can get stale doing anything if he's not allowed to try a variety of genres.

And I had no problem with the music. Other than the very beginning when I was very conscious of it due to comments I've read I really didn't pay it much attention.

I think the critics had a bit of overkill toward TBH, it did not deserve such trashing. Much worse stuff is out there in abundance. But maybe they'd had their hopes up and disappointment turned to rage. :p All the participants will go on to make many more films and I wish them well.

Actually, there was also a trailer for Aniston's next film, the one with Jason Bateman. (Formerly titled The Baster but it has a new title that I can't remember. :p) and it looked kind of cute. Who knows. JLo's film also had a trailer - similar set up but looks more predictable. We'll see.)

Barbara, I think you need a time machine ride back 1968 to buy a pair of those shorts Gerry was wearing!

LOL!

I enjoyed the movie and enjoyed seeing it with Elissa and Brenda (Rendita). We saw it at one of the Drafthouse cinemas where they served lunch with soft drinks, beer and wine for anyone who wanted it. We went to a 12:45 PM showing opening day and the crowd was small but appreciative. I loved the movie and thought Gerry was totally gorgeous! I agree with some that the writing as a bit thin, but I thought the acting and the chemistry between Gerry and Jen just lit up the screen (as did Gerry's eyes in the dinner on the patio scene!) :wuv: I certainly intend to see it again a few times before it leaves theaters.

Delene a bun fight is a petty arguement :lmao: .

Have any of those who have found for whatever reason that TBH is not to their liking come on here and tried to be judgemental of those who have really liked the film?. Members have come on here and respectfully given their opinion and respected those who differ - most i hasten to add have been very complimentary towards Gerry - myself included so where's the damage. This is a fansite and I feel members should be entitled to feel they can come on here without being judged by others or feel they cant be truthful because they have a slight difference of opinion.

As I said before, I have seen it 2 times and enjoyed it more the 2nd. time. I am going again tonight or tomorrow, or both. I love watching Gerry and I thought he and Jen were great together and great chemistry - Everyone is different and love different things. I am still reading that LAC and TUT were awful movies (not on this board), but I loved these movies and they did great at the box office, so someone must have liked them. I believe LAC may be one of my favorite movies of all time. It just had everything. So when I hear critics say it was an awful movie, it hurts my feelings... I don't get that unless it is jealousy.. I just love Gerry and want him to be happy at what he does. I wish the critics hadn't been so hard on him or the movie, because he does not deserve that, but I think he will bounce back fine. Just look at the review of Something About Steve with Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper - it didn't hurt them. How many movies of George Clooney have they panned - Batman....remember when they didn't think he could make it from t.v. to the movies, because he had several box office duds????? I think Gerry is a gifted actor, and to me like none I ever have seen. I hope it won't be long, that others in movieland will know this.. I degress... TBH made me laugh and looking at those beautiful eyes and that beautiful face made me happy...nuff said....Linda

Critics just love to hear themselves talk and the trashier the better. There's a lot of bad stuff out there and this movie definately wasn't the worst or anywhere near it. It was rather refreshing, actually.

I think people do put too much expectation in some things or in actors and get disappointed when that expectation hasn't been met to their liking. I admit I do expect more out of Gerry sometimes, however, he's kind of like sex. If you go in expecting rockets and fireworks every time, you're going to get disappointed once in a while. If you go in with the attitude of just having a good time, and just letting it happen, then you won't be disappointed and if it's the fourth of July, all the better! How's that "analogy" for ya? :rotflmao:

I really enjoyed "The Bounty Hunter", even though there were some gaps in the story. I would have liked more background information about Milo's time as a cop, for example. All in all, it was entertaining, and had some very funny moments. I'll be seeing it again!

Gee, I thought it was some kind of food fight! I'd never heard that before! I should have looked it up. It also means to have a "formal party"!

When you say "judgemental" I think of being critical of someone more because they don't like the movie, rather than because they are voicing their dislike of it on a public forum. Personally, I have not "judged or critisized" anyone for not "liking" the movie. That's their choice. But it is my critical opinion, and it can be construed as judgemental I suppose, that it is in poor taste to discuss it in a negative way here. That's all I said. Just my opinion, not a judgement, just an opinion. It would be the same if I came upon two people having sex in the middle of the road and I told them I thought it was my humble opinion that I felt that was not the place to do it and they accuse me of judging them because they were having sex. No, not having sex, that part's OK, having it in the middle of the road for all the world to see, another matter.

I've really got sex on the brain today! I think that's twice now I've used it metahorically!

Thanks Moira

Hubby and I saw it today and we both really enjoyed it.

We were in a large theater that was packed and everyone laughed throughout the movie. It was a great crime action romantic movie and the chemistry between GB and JA was palpable.

I particularly enjoyed the towel scene but we all know how great GB looks in a towel. And the multi-colored outfit - and those shoes -

I will want to see it again on the big screen at least one or twice more before it leaves...the man sure has great comedic timing...nothing forced...just great. Just what going to a movie is all about - terrific entertainment!

You know, it's funny, but I've been thinking about it off and on all night (I was at work LOL) and I really think I'm going to enjoy it a lot when it comes out on DVD. And although I didn't intend to, I would like to see it again in the theaters. I haven't exactly changed my mind but I did kind of enjoy it, it was comfortable and amusing and he was cute and I liked Jen and all in all I want my own copy to enjoy whenever I want. :D

I was embarrassed for Gerry that people actually walked out of this film. I'm sorry if some are having a problem with my response to that, but I am being honest here. And I DO question what would make Gerry want to take on a film like this. I am not questioning his talent or intelligence, I'm questioning his reasoning for choosing a particular film role.

As a fan, I did not enjoy this movie, and it is disappointing to me when I don't enjoy one of Gerry's films. I'm excited for what he has on his schedule of future roles, and I'm sure one of his upcoming projects will knock my socks off.

Swannie

Welcome to my "PS I love you" world... You enjoyed that one. Conversely, there aren't enough vulgar expletives to express how much I LOATHE AND ABHOR that ... film. I LOVE this genre and loved this movie. As a Gerry fan, it's one giant screencap -- a visual "boofay," if you will. Was it his "best" performance/vehicle/? Could it be "tighter" as a film? Definitely. Do I care? NOPE! Personally, I don't want or need every role to be an Oscar contender. The goofy, lightheartedness of this movie IS what appeals to me. I go to the movies to ESCAPE RL for 2hrs. This one filled the bill!

Here's the BEAUTY of being a Gerard Butler FAN... Gerry's career is like the Scottish weather: If you don't like it, just stand still for 15 minutes - it'll change and you'll eventually get weather you enjoy! :p

The only thing more varied than Gerry's role selection is his FANBASE! One may question his choices, but one cannot deny that those choices have provided a little bit of something for everyone. And for as much as I dislike some of his choices, it's also one of the things I respect most about him -- his willingness to "go there."

Don't like THIS movie? That's GREAT! Have no fear, a genre you enjoy is just around the corner!

ETA: If I ever find Andy Tennant and/or BH's editors, they'd better be wearing cups because I'm gonna be kickin! I still haven't recovered from that VERY disappointing camera angle involving a very inappropriately placed prison bar!! :tantrum:

O.K.. just got back after my 3rd. -oh, I l loved it..Gerry's New York accent was really good. Sunday night -7:30 p.m. over 40 or 50- people - mixed - men and women, all ages.. Actually more women, I think. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and laugh throughout. I know why there wasn't a lot of hysterical laughter... this was not really the typical romatic comedy.. not even a comedy, there was alot of action, chasing (and Gerry did run a lot)... there was a lot going on. One lady in the bathroom said to her friend "that was a cute movie" "it was different". I asked her if she liked it and she said she really did. I told her I was a member of Gerard Butler's fan club and if she liked it to tell her friends about it. I told her the critics had been rough on it. She said she did not listen to critics.... she also said Gerry was a cutie..... she said it several times and I agreed with her... I think those that like it will tell others and that will help. Of course the few out there that thrash it, will keep some away that listen to them.. Oh well, I enjoyed it and will go again this week. I do like Milo and he did love his girl.. Linda

Great blog about the box office numbers for TBH:

http://scottalanmendelson.blogspot.com/201...ain-on-box.html

If the film gets even to $22 million by tomorrow, it will be Gerard Butler's third-biggest opening weekend, fourth if you count his cameo appearance in Tomorrow Never Dies. It will also be his third of four $21 million+ opening in the last eight months (The Ugly Truth at $27.6 million and Law-Abiding Citizen at $21 million and next weekend's How to Train Your Dragon, which will probably top $21 million in one day).

There are a lot of actors I like besides Gerry. But I have to say I seldom love every movie a favorite actor does. It never works out that way. It's easy to lose track of the fact that acting is a job and there are a lot of compromises and disappointments in the making of every movie.

Sometimes we need to take the romance and glamor out of the equation and understand there are only so many opportunities out there and there are only a limited number of movies that will make a profit. So picking and choosing projects is not easy, and what looks good on paper may not translate into a good film. It's a crap shoot sometimes. No one sets out to make a bad movie. What's important is that Gerry has lived to fight another day and there will be other projects and perhaps even one the critics might like.

That being said I am definitely adding TBH DVD to my collection when it is released. Gotta say I loved the endless close ups of Gerry. And the best scenes by far was the Cupid Cottage sequences. Gerry and JA were terrific in that part of the movie.

I did get to see the movie on Friday! I met my good friend I used to work at the hospital with at the theater. I was a little early and had to wait till the box office opened and I was first in line! LOL. The lady that sold me the ticket said you have the first ticket we sold for this movie. You have to come back and tell me how you liked it so I might go see it! I said "I am a big fan of Gerry Butler--I will tell you now that I will like it." She looked closer at me and said--"oh its you, I know you will!"

My friend showed up and we went in. She is slightly handicapped and can't climb the steps so we sat down front (really too close to the screen for me, I prefer to sit further back from the screen). I think about 20 more people came in--mostly women. There was a lot of laughter and even clapping at some of the scenes--I had a general good feeling about the movie vibe.

I think my buddy got a kick out of my adoration of Gerry--nudging me in the ribs when Milo/Gerry was in the towel and handcuffed to the bed. Wooooo, niiiice. She is not a Gerry fan but she too just thought it was a funny ok movie. After the movie I went and told the manager again I wanted the movie poster! She let me sign up for it but with no guarantees! Ah well at least I tried.

I wanted to love it, and I did love Gerry in every scene he is in but I did not love the whole movie. The editing could have been a lot better in my opinion. Once again, Gerry did a great job of what he was given to do. I loved TUT more for the continuity in the script than the script in BH. Jennifer A just did ok for me--another Rachel playing with her hair--sorry. Nevertheless I will still go see it several times and will get the DVD for sure.

This is all JMHO, ya'll.

That being said--can't wait to go and see it again!

See you at BH!

:hugs:

I loved this movie. I'm hoping to go see this again with my mother as she is a big GB fan too. I find it amazing how Gerry can wear just about anything and look hot (especially if only wearing a towel.... audible gasps heard throughout the entire cinema...I think I gasped the loudest).

Will definitely be buying the DVD when it comes out.

By the way, is it just me, or does it seem like Jen Aniston has had plastic surgery around her mouth? Her upper lip looks strangely full and tight.
