It's playing in Boston at my local theater on the 30th if anyone wants to visit. :pointy:

Seriously though, this is quite typical for a "niche" movie. WE are looking forward to it but 99% of the population is still unaware of it and they don't have the budget for a lot of promotion. They'll roll it out slowly so that it pays for itself. I anticipate Coriolanus will open the same way.

Finally, Machine Gun Preacher is currently slated for a nationwide expansion on Sept. 30, though that's probably contingent on its reception during its limited opening a week earlier. It's the first limited debut being handled by distributor Relativity, and, even with strong buzz coming out of the Toronto International Film Festival, it doesn't seem like the kind of movie that's going to platform well.

Luckily, critical response doesn't hinge on box office numbers, nor does recognition by either the Hollywood Foreign Press Association , if it is well received it can still get awards recognition, and if it manages that, it will make money in the long run.

I realize that has little bearing on when GALS get to see it, but at least there's VOD and dvd and the time between theatrical release and home is much shorter than it used to be! :kisswink:

First, if the movie isn't showing in your City, Call your local theater. Talk to the people in charge. They will listen if you get enough support. Get your friends and families to email, and call also. If the movie proves to be wanted, the theater will get it. I did this on a few occasions in my hometown. I even had GALS from out of town come in to see Beowulf!

It works, it really does! Posted Image

My husband and daughter went to the movies tonight here in San Antonio at the Bijou Theater. They saw a big poster in the theater lobby for Machine Gun Preacher which said "coming soon!" San Antonio isn't on the original list, but this local theater has a poster in the lobby with other coming attractions! :yay:

Even though there are two cities in Texas on the list, they're so far away from where I live they might as well be in other states! Dallas is over 300 miles away and Houston is over 200 miles away. At least a 4 hour drive, ONE way to see a movie. I thought about flying to Houston, but then, I'd have to rent a car to get to the theater and back to the airport. Taxis would be out of the question....way too expensive. :(

Lady Elissa,

I live in Dallas. You can fly Southwest Airlines from San Antonio to Dallas Love Field Airport for $149 round trip. Love Field Airport is in the middle of town and is less than 5 miles (according to Mapquest) from the Angelika theatre that is showing MGP. You can also fly into the Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport but that airport is about 20 miles away from the theatre. I am going to see the movie after work on Sept 30th.

If you decide you want to come to Dallas then e-mail me and I can help you decide where to go and stay in Dallas.

This doesn't surprise me. Lots of times, a list goes out for the theaters that will show a certain movie, but when the movie is actually released, it's in many more venues. I think this will be the case for MGP. I just don't think all the theaters are listed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, cause this needs to be in lots of rooms when it opens.

I'm thinking we might get it at this one really nice theater downtown(Harkins Bricktown 16) since they show alot of indie/art house films along with the blockbusters and it looks like we're getting it September 30th. There wasn't a listing for the AMC 24 yet...I'll keeping checking...Linda (lindalou) is planning to come up in mid October so we can finally meet in person, enjoy some retail therapy at a new outlet mall that I work at, enjoy a movie(hopefully MGP) and dinner. I really look forward to it.

They pulled MGP from the theatre it was supposed to be released at here in Idaho!!!! I just checked the website to see showtimes (it was supposed to open Friday) and it has been removed from the website so I called and they said the distributor pulled it and they won't be getting it at all!!! :( This better mean they're going to send it to Fandango or something....even the dollar theatre later will work for me, I could afford to go see it more than once!

Strangely, MGP will be shown at only two locations that are within a fifty mile radius and they are both on the Kansas side of the line. One theater is a little theater in an older community south of Kansas City, not very central to anything. I thought if it showed near KC it would be on the Plaza but no or one of the big multiplexes more centrally located. I'm confused as to what determines what theaters will be showing it. I've heard that it's a decision of the theater. I'm going to call our local one and see what's on their agenda.

I'm patient though. I have no doubt that I'll get to see it eventually, I'm just concerned about the movie getting the exposure and box office draw that it needs.

I almost think that we are :beat_dead_horse:...... One of ......no wait.....THE Best movie out there and so few are going to know it!! This reminds me of Beowulf days! I went yesterday and besides my husband and daughter plus me there was one woman sitting way up in the back!!! ONE PERSON and there was not ONE poster anywhere in the theater!

This is soooooooooooooo sad....:wall:

I've seen the interview he had on Fox News... Sadly, at work and i had a heart attack in excitement while mopping the floor. Hyperventilation at work isn't the best place for your obsessions are they? :yay:

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, BS! Look, it sounds like an awesome movie and i think it should've been a national release right away. Not this pick-a-rose-petal off city schtuff. I wanna see it! It's gotta be as good as Hotel Rwanda... And i was thinking this as i was watching a preview on Fox News; there should be some good music out of it. There's gotta be tear-jerks somewheres.

Has anyone else seen the IMDb thingy showing MGP being released on November 4th??????

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1586752/

Could this POSSIBLY mean it will be more widely released then??

Lisa (who used way too many ??????)

Even if MGP does get a wider release, it won't do any good unless people KNOW about it! There have been no previews in the theaters, even where it was going to show. Also, no huge TV and radio ads. GRRR!

Be sure to call your theater before heading out. THREE times this week, my local AMC theater assured me that MGP would be opening tonight. (I had last spoken to someone at 7p on Thurs evening) Upon going to purchase tickets online this morning, MGP is nowhere to be found. Of course, I called the AMC Manager. He advised that there had been a "last minute scheduling change." He then told me he would try to get additional information and asked me to call back in a couple of hours.

The only thing more aggressive than a HAPPY GAL trying to grass-root promote a Gerry project, is a PISSED OFF GAL who's been denied her Juice!! :tantrum:
