List of theaters showing Coriolanus in US

Recommended Posts

Alllllll righty then... Been trying to find a list of US theaters showing Coriolanus east of the Mississippi and having zero luck. It's also interesting to note that there have not been any advertisements on TV or in the print media here in the DC metroplex. Soooooo...

Would any of the PTB possibly, maybe, hopefully find a list of US theaters playing Coriolanus on or after 1/20??

I haven't found any US theaters West of the Mississippi playing Coriolanus either. Nada, zero. Just an opening date of 1/20/12. NO theaters. There have been no trailers, no posters, no ads. I hope we hear something soon.

I'm getting more than a little worried that Coriolanus is going to end up like MGP - that would be nothing less than a tragedy....

I called our local arthouse in Scottsdale and they said they would be showing it within the next 3-4 months but the distributor hadn't given them a definite date and to keep checking back with them. Too bad we can't get more definitive answers from Weinstein and Co.

On the 20th of January, it will also be released in San Francisco at the Embarcadero and in Los Angeles at the Landmark.

This website says it will be released nationwide on February 12, but I don't see it on any "coming attractions" lists for any theaters in the Phoenix area.. http://www.dfilmscorp.ca/movies/coriolanus.asp

Sara

I followed this link and only found information on Canadian release dates. So far, the only information about a US release I've found anywhere is what we already know. Coriolanus opens with a limited release on Friday. I even went to Weinstein's website. Found nothing about a wider release. :(

I see Coriolanus will be playing February 3, 2012 at the Uptown Theater in Seattle, WA (511 Queen Anne Ave. N.) part of the SIFF.net theaters (Seattle Int'l Film Fest).

Yes, I'll be there many times to see this one.

I went to the Weinstein website, tried to call the offices in NYC, and tried every which way I could think of to find out if it is playing anywhere near me. With the exception of the one theater in NYC, no luck. I can only hope that the rumors are true that it is going to open nationwide in February. I've already decided that I'll be seeing this one in the theater more than once.

Apparently my understanding of a "wide release" and that of the The Weinstein Company are two different things. I live in Boston and I was sure that it would open on January 20 here. Boston is generally a 2nd tier market (if NY and LA are the 1st) but it isn't playing anywhere in the Boston area and I can't find a date on which it will. This makes absolutely no sense to me and it's incredibly frustrating trying to talk up a movie only to get people excited to see it and then have no opportunity to do so. (Not to mention this JUST happened with Machine Gun Preacher which just compounds my frustration.) I've been talking up Coriolanus for months, as have a lot of you I'm sure. (If I hadn't already gone to NY to see it, I'd be beyond pissed right now.) Distributors need to realize that continually jerking people around doesn't build anticipation, it causes people (other than we fans of Gerard Butler, who are just about guaranteed) to lose interest!

Whew! Glad I had a place to rant!

Progress on the Odyssey...

I understand where you're coming from, Sheri. San Antonio isn't exactly the top of the market, but we have an art house here that almost always gets the indie films, even some very obscure ones with subtitles. We got Machine Gun Preacher which ran here for 3 weeks. So far, there's no indication that Coriolanus will play here at all. Their schedule is posted through March and Coriolanus is not on it. I'm very disappointed, to say the least! :(

I found some info on showtimes for east coast (NYC), opening tomorrow. Will keep looking and post if I find anything else.

(Hope this doesn't turn out to be another MGP episode...

Good Luck to us!

Coriolanus finally came to Dallas Texas. I saw it today. It's ok, not great. Gerry speaking Shakesphere is so cute. There's also a short scene with Gerry shaving Ralph Fiennes head with electric shears. I giggled at that although it's not meant to be a funny scene.

The biggest problem is the head held camera technique which can make some people, including me, nauseous. I thought I would never watch this movie again because of this, however, there are a lot of closeups of Gerry that are so tight you swear that you can feel his breath on you. He looks really good in every scene. That's saying a lot since the men are not wearing any kind of makeup or eye gel to smooth out their imperfections. But we already knew that Gerry is perfect.

Gerry is in the first 15 minutes of the movie, then he's not in another scene until an hour and 10 minutes into the movie. I thought they might make his part bigger than what it is in the play but his part is really small. Many of the scenes he's just standing in the background but they show shots of his reaction to what is going on.

That really sounds disappointing after all the build up to the movie. Gerry is in every frame of the clips to support the movie,

and Ralph is really complementary of his talent. The interviews I have seen Gerry is treated as the star of the movie in every

one of them. I may just wait for the DVD. I'm not really able to keep fighting to find this movie in theaters and then sit through

so much of it without Gerry being in it.

Love him absolutely,

Sandy

Hobbes ~ sorry that I didn't come back sooner. We went to the Embassy Theater in Waltham to see it a couple of weekends ago. Would've invited you to join us, being that it is relatively close to Boston! (would've been easier at Kendall Sq)

It's still playing there this week:

The release date in our Harkins Theaters in AZ keeps changing. Last week it showed March 9 and when I checked today it is March 16. This is ridiculous!
