My St. Patrick's Day granddaughters are celebrating!!! I'm not Irish but my husband's great great grandparents, on his mother's side, were born in Ireland. So Emma and Annie are celebrating. Emma is 6 years old and Annie will be 2 years old March 23rd.

Just a quick hello. Working on funeral stationary *Phew*. Bookmarks, booklets, photo slideshow etc. Luckily I'm handy with a computer and photo's. The latter thanks to GALS and when I used to do siggies LOL.

Thanks all for your thoughts, much appreciated. My friend sends her thanks too. She said how nice it was to have friends around the world who cared. I couldn't agree more.

Hugs to all

You're a wonderful friend to her, for helping in such a difficult time. :rose:

It's been a while since I wrote anything in here but I've been reading at least! (or stalking as my kids would tell me. :lalala: )

Big hugs and love to all!

Well, dear friends, I made it back home. No attendance at the reunion, no sighting of Gerry in Sydney. I got there on Friday afternoon (14th March) and met my friend at the hospital. Her Dad had been admitted with a stroke the day before. We sat there for a few hours (5 to be exact) then went home. We chatted till 11pm and went to bed only to be called at 2.30am to say her Dad had died. Then off the the hospital as her hubby had to work on Saturday morning. It was 5.30 am before we got home and brought her mother with us. We put her in my bed and I slept on the coach. So no reunion four hours later - way too tired.

The rest of the week was assisting with funeral arrangements. I did the service booklet, the photo's, bookmarks with thanks, the slideshow for the wake and fixed her very sad computer. I organised content with the family, funeral home and priest and made sure my friend got some sleep. The funeral was on Thursday. It went really well and was a wonderful celebration of her Dad's life. He was 97 so a great innings. I was very privileged to be able to assist. After all, my friend helped me get through the early death of my mother 23 years ago.

I have to admit, our dear Gerry was far from my mind. OH well, there you are. No stalking for me this time :-(

This coming weekend I'm off to a writers workshop called "Polishing Your Turd" i.e editing your manuscript. Looking forward to that.

Keep well everyone, and hugs to all

Hi Andrea! Great to see you here! :claphands:

Cat, that is a great thing you did for your friend!

We had our appointment with our tax accountant today and I'm happy to say we're getting a nice refund, for a change! That definitely helps take the sting out of my severely reduced hours at work since the conversion from a traditional OB and Newborn Nursery to Mother/Baby care which cut the Newborn Nursery (my unit) down to skeleton crew. After I retire this summer my income will increase! I'm hanging in there until after I turn 66 in order to get 100% of my social security benefits, or else I would have retired last year. ;)

Elissa, retirement AND extra cash WOOT! And may I say retirement is everything I wanted and more. I'm busier than ever and get to see (and help) friends and family.

Thought I'd send photo of my grandson Elliott for you: 10156019_10153906409075167_183686882_n_z

Elissa, Good news all around! You will love retirement. Nice to have the flexibility in your life to do what you want to, when you want to.

Yes, he's a great kid. Sooo much nicer at this age than his Mama LOL. But then, I'm not sleep deprived or worrying about daycare or anything. I can just enjoy him, love him and when it get's hard, leave it to his Mama :-). Actually, his Mama is bipolar and was already showing signs of hyperactivity at one. Elliott is calm, cute and loving, can keep himself occupied for ages and just love crawling all over me as I sit on the floor with him. However, his cousin Ashlyn is also a cutie pie. Her parents don't take as many photo's so I have to wait to take them myself.

Hmmm... me thinks I be one-eyed, argh!

Welcome back Andrea!

I so hope retirement turns out to be fun for you too Elissa.

I've made up my mind to finish my novel over the next 10 weeks. I have two more chapters to write then on come the overalls while I 'polish my turd' so to speak. That always is the hard slog about writing. Fun writing then the work comes when you have to make sure it's worth reading.

Love to you all

Cat, have you published yet? I can't believe how many writers are connected with GALS. What type of writing do you do...Romance, Mystery, Historical, etc?

You should also join the "Wee Ones" thread here on GALS, it's for Grandma's showing off their grandchildren. We have fun doing that. I have watched the kids from birth to going off to school......Ask "irish" for the Password to the thread. She started the thread many years ago.

Thanks Kathy, will do re password for Wee Ones.

I've had several short stories published but this is my 2nd novel. The first one is in the 'trunk' as I was still learning when I wrote it - it's a great story very badly written LOL. One day I will pull out the story and start it again.

I write 'speculative' fiction - mostly fantasy, scifi or, as my current project, urban fantasy (set in contemporary Australia).

I got a chapter edited today. Only 23 more to go *chuckle*. It's going to take me a couple of months to get it up to speed to send it to my beta readers.

Cheers All and Hugs

Cat...How exciting! I love reading books like the kind you just described. Also the setting of contemporary Australia would be an added bonus for me. I love reading about Australia ever since I have had a friend living there. I have learned so much through her. Good luck on the editing! I know it is not the fun part of writing.

Looking forward to seeing you post on the Wee Ones thread.

I read one of Cat's short stories and it was fantastic!! I can't wait for the novel.

Cat, what was the name of the anthology where your story appeared? I can't remember.

Andrea, so nice to see you back, you too, Cat!

Weather is fabulous here. So sorry some of you are still having snow. Spring will come, honest!

Sending massive hugs to all!

Hi Suzie, the name of the anthology was either 'Masques' for the 1st story called 'Hobnails in Heaven' or 'Winds of Change' with the story 'Dragonfly'. I thought it was the second.

These anthologies are now out of copyright so I'm thinking of posting the stories on my website - but I haven't blogged for several months so I'm embarrassed *sigh*. I will let you know when I post them and where.

We've had quite a lot of rain over the past few weeks after months of no rain at all. Typical Aussie weather LOL. Right now it's overcast, but I'm still in shorts and a t-shirt for the 1st day of Autumn.

Hug squishy hugs to all

No, the one I read was Hobnails in Heaven in Masques. I recognized the name. I loved it.

Now I will look for Winds of Change so I can read Dragonfly. Thank you!!

Cheers and a hug,

Suzie

PS: OK, not at Amazon. Do you have a link where I can order?
