zanyzombie
When was the first time you "discovered" Gerry? For me, it was back in 2001 when Dracula 2000 was on HBO. I'm a spooky movie nut and hadn't seen it so I was happy to watch it. The movie goes along and there are the parts with Gerry in it BUT it wasn't until he looked up to the camera and said, "Brilliant!" that my heart, body and soul was Butlerized. Have been ever since. Hobbes
Spending too much time on Facebook, Zanes. Immediately looked for the "like" button. For me it was September 2006 when I finally caught a movie I had llooked forward to seeing in theaters when it opened December 2004 (but for a number of reasons never did), Phantom of the Opera, of course. I remember reading about the casting when it was first announced and I actually looked up G on imdb, but even though I'd seen him in Mrs. Brown, he didn't "register". Now that I'd finally had a chance to see the movie (at that particular point in my life), it resonated with me (I watched it twice in one day) and I was/am completely hooked (although POTO is NOT my favorite role). zanyzombie
LOL! Sheri! I didn't see Gerry again until POTO. I remember grabbing my MIL's arm when he's walking down the corridor w/Chrisitne. The rush of "THERE HE IS!!" "OMG" on the BIG screen was overwhelming! Forbes girl
The first time I saw Gerry was when the Attila Mini series was on TV. I had no idea who he was but I couldn't keep my eyes off of him. I knew then that he was going places because he had such charisma and fabulous eyes. He had it all. I was surprised that I didn't see him again until POTO. That's when I discovered that he was Scottish. THIS Scottish gal was Butlerized big time. I have been Butlerized ever since. ~HUGS~ Kathy
christy40
The first time I saw Gerry was in 04 when I rented The Phantom Of The Opera. My heart melted when I heard him sing Music Of The Night.
Lady Elissa
For me, it was POTO in the movie theater when the movie first came out. I had never seen POTO on stage, but I had heard the music and liked it. When I saw the trailer for the movie version on TV, I said that I wanted to see it. Hubby didn't want to go, declaring that it was a "chick flick," but my daughter went with me. She still teases me about how I drooled in my popcorn in every one of Gerry's scenes! We went several more times before the movie left town. After seeing POTO, I had to find out who Gerard Butler was! Erin showed me how to find him on imdb. I rented, and later bought, every one of the films he had been in that was available. I lurked on another Gerry fan site for a year before I finally had the courage to join the forum in January, 2006. Made my way to GALS in June, 2006. kathleen1110
The very first time I saw Gerard Butler was when I happened to turn on the TV and 300 was on. I definitely took notice of how sexy he was as King Leonidis. I didn't see another Gerry movie until about 5 months later. It was right before Christmas about 5 years ago. I turned on the tv and this time PS I Love you was on. It was then that I became smitten and have been ever since.
zanyzombie
I didn't own a computer when I discovered Gerry but never forgot his name. We finally got one in 2004 and that's when I Googled his name. There wasn't too much info on him and like Elissa, I "lurked" for a long time on another Gerry fan site. I'm so glad I took the leap forward and joined that website that brought me to GALS! New to the internet and all it's splendors, it was the beginning of lasting memories and good times and friends. WOW! That is my back story. I got my first laptop because of Gerry. Hubby got tired of me using the desktop computer looking at Gerry fan sites so he bought me a laptop and we got wireless wi-fi so I could use it anywhere in the house. Being in the mountains we had to wait for wireless wi-fi. I also learned graphics, thanks to Frannie and others, so I could play with Gerry pics on siggys. LOL! I guess you could say Gerry changed my life's interests and I found many new friends. ~HUGS~ Kathy
zanyzombie
I went thru a horrible time w/my hubs regarding Gerry. He's like, He doesn't pay your bills! He's only 6'2"? He's tiny! LOL Not too mention calling him names like, Gerry Butthead. Oy! But, the times have changed and hubs thinks Ger is "all right!"
phanphorlife
I believe it was Tuesday, December 28th, 2004...the first gift I had opened on Christmas day was a couple of tickets to see Phantom of the Opera the following week. The anticipation nearly killed me, but that moment when he turned his face to the camera for the first time as he walked Christine down the torch-lit corridor is for-EVER etched in my brain...I was GOBsmacked! I'd never seen or heard of Gerry before, but at that moment I was a goner, and have been ever since! browneyes
Phantom of the Opera - went to see my favorite musical on the big screen and thought " hmmm I don't recall the phantom being handsome...". Then during the scene where he begins to cry on the rooftop I thought..."Are those real tears?...yes his nose is running...who is this guy?". Texas gramma
The first time I saw Gerry was in Timeline in early 2004.  I thought Marek was gorgeous and such a sexy guy!   But I didn't know who he was and RL got in the way of my looking for more info (plus I didn't know how).    Then I bought the DVD of POTO the day it came out in 2005.  I saw this incredibly gorgeous Phantom in the golden corridor when he faced the camera for the first time, and I melted right into the sofa.    As soon as it was over, I jumped on the computer and looked up that Gerard Butler guy.  (I knew how by then.)  Imagine my delight when I found out the beautiful Phantom was also my sweet Marek.  I too lurked at another Fan site and that brought me to my GALfriends in Feb, 2006.    This man has part of my heart and he always will.
becozy
May 9, 2005! Recovering from knee surgery I watched a 'rented' video (remember VHS? ) The Phantom of the Opera!! OMG! *love* Thankfully my family was 'on board' and agreed that it was an awesome movie - and they are all big fans too. And they are so supportive of my GALS additiction. As soon as I researched and found Gerry...I realized he was the 'cute' guy in so many movies that I enjoyed in the past - previous to us having a computer so I never had looked him up! Tomb Raider and that tiny bit in Harrison's Flowers were the ones I remembered I too hopped on to a fan site...and it did bring me to a whole new world...new friends, computer 'skills' and a really fun obsession hobby It took me a while to admit I had GALS - and right after Dayna started the GALS website I joined and have been having fun ever since. My hubby didn't say much about Gerry in the beginning but he would tease me. Every time I went to see a Gerry movie he said he would go too. I think he felt he was chaperoning me and Gerry. LOL! As time went on he started to ask me when the next Gerry movie would be coming out. My sons starting watching Gerry movies to see whom their Mother had a "thing for". Now they are all three fans of Gerry and my sons collect Gerry's movies on DVD. ~HUGS~ Kathy
GBPhanatic
I have to honestly say that the third time was the charm for me. Things usually have to grow on me gradually. So I first saw Gerry in Tomb Raider. I'm watching my girl, Angelina when I saw the hot guy with the accent, I was somewhat....taken a bit. For as good an actor as he was, I couldn't figure out why I hadn't seen him before. But I do think it was the accent that got to me first. Actually, he reminded me of someone but I couldn't figure out who. Then there was "Reign of Fire". Not exactly a Gerry movie but watched it because my son knew I was a Mathew Mac fan. I did not make the connection at all but was quite distracted by the cute Scottish guy. The final straw was when I had just gotten home the day before from NYC where I had seen "Phantom of The Opera" at the Majestic. A friend had told me to see the film first and I'd understand the play better, which I failed to do. I didn't even know there was a movie version. So I turned on the TV and there was this guy standing in water, sexy white shirt, half of his face messed up, weird hair, singing his heart out and this girl, Christine of course, walking towards him and then she kisses him! Wow! I was hooked! I really didn't know all of these guys were the same one. I didn't make the connection at all but something sparked in me just the same. I was happy that the movie repeated so watched it in it's entirety and it was like being mesmerized! Beautiful singing, beautiful film and love at third sight! And I've been under the spell ever since! Some credit needs to go to Angie and Matt too. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for helping to light this fire! May it burn on eternally! saga
"Timeline." I had loved the book and Marek is such a strong character in the book and I kind of had a crush on him (Marek) anyway. So then when the movie came out and it didn't get great reviews and really wasn't on a level with the book and all these people seemed so upset about it - I didn't care one bit. Because Marek (who was a big manly Danish archaeologist/historian in the book) was now a gorgeous sexy Scottish archaeologist/historian in the movie. I ignored the rest of it, just watched him. Editing this post, just like the one in the "favorite character" thread, because as much as I loved Marek and him in it, and it was the first time I remember really seeing him (ie., looking up his name and finding out all about him and making the extra effort to go to the theater to see movies he's in), the obsession didn't kick in until just last year when Creedy snuck up on me when I was watching RoF with my daughter. So. First Gerry - "Timeline," back when it was first released. First Gerry dreams - Creedy, just a year or so ago. Had to clear that up. Full disclosure and all that.
