heISmyGspot
Gerard Butler has dropped out of Point Break, Alcon’s remake of the early 1990s classic action movie. Butler was to have played the Zen-infused thief originally played by Patrick Swayze, opposite Luke Bracey, who is playing hotshot FBI agent Johnny Utah, originally played by Keanu Reeves. Sources say that the parting of ways occurred because of a confluence of factors. There have been creative differences and a scheduling conflict: Point Break will start shooting in late June, lasting several months, and will take its actors to international locales. But Butler also has on his docket London Has Fallen, the sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, which shoots in the fall in London. Forbes girl
I wondered how he was going to fit in all of the movies he has recently been connected to. Sounds like a time consuming movie shoot to. Gerry doesn't have the time. I also wasn't looking forward to all of the critics when the movie came out. Gerry is smart in dropping this one. He needs to stick with his own movies. ~HUGS~ Kathy
VA GB Fan
I agree that I'm glad he dropped out of this film. Many devoted Point Break fans weren't in favor of a remake and I think Gerry could have been criticized despite knowing he's do a fantastic job. christy40
I was kinda surprised when I read that Gerry dropped out of Point Break. I think he would been good in the movie. But know since he is going to be doing the movie now he will more time to work on London Has Fallen and GeoStorm. Wonder if he will be doing any of his own stunts in London Has Fallen. asunta
I think this is a smart move on his part. He also dropped out of the remake of Escape From NY. These movies are culture classics and fans don't want to see remakes. Also, I think his body couldn't take 2 action movies in a row any more. Smart move. Do what he wants and do it well! GBPhanatic
Not really disappointed he dropped it. Seemed like a lot on his schedule too. My son, Chris, wanted to ask Gerry if he wanted to grab his Harley and go to Sturgis with him in August and I told him Gerry would be busy filming. So now maybe he can get away....... Swansong
I am relieved his name is no longer attached to this movie. I think it would have been a huge misstep. I really want to see him in a grown up male role, in a grown-up story with some depth. Edited May 7, 2014 by Swansong

JanaGermany
I agree, too. I mean I like him as an action hero, but it would be nice to see him in a demanding role. Jana ♥ Edited May 10, 2014 by JanaGermany

heISmyGspot
I agree, too. I mean I like him as an action hero, but it would be nice to see him in a demanding role. Jana ♥ I agree. I'd like to see him in a good, meaty role! Not necessarily art house (e.g. Coriolanus), but a role with depth AND backed by a major movie house. IMO, some of his "potentially good" movies, (MGP, LAC, etc) have been produced and/or distributed by "wannabees." (e.g. Millennium Films, Relativity). He needs REAL backing -- Warners, Dreamworks, Paramount. (I'll reiterate my hope for a love interest... 8 years later and I'm still holding out for some Pinky action! :-P ) There was a time when he stated he didn't do remakes or sequels. For a moment there, we had BOTH (PB and London Has Fallen). While I enjoyed Olympus has Fallen, it was campy and I can't believe they're making a sequel. (Again, it has "shoestring buget" written all over it compliments of Millennium -- poor CGI, terrible editing, etc.). I suppose I can live with LHF ... Bruce Willis fans have survived 5 Die Hards, I guess we can survive LHF. LOL Welcome to GALS, Jana!
