Our sweet GAL and friend Libby passed away today.  Libby was not only a wonderful MOD of the GALS website, but she was also a dear friend to me and many other GALS and Gerard Butler fans.  Libby made it possible for me to attend the first GALS convention in Las Vegas by paying my airfare and letting me share a room with her, and she took care of me when I became ill with a kidney infection during the festivities.  We had lots of laughs, and spent time together at the '07 and '08 conventions.  Libby was also one of the very first fans of my Chanson de l'Ange book series through following my on-line postings before the story ever became a book.  I'll never forget the first time we met at the airport in LV.  As soon as she saw me she shouted my name "Swannie" and we grabbed hold of each other in a big boob squishing hug.  She was a lovely generous woman who will be missed by all who loved her!  Rest in Peace, sweet friend.

Holly reminded me that Libby was the Rising Phoenix Award recipient for 2008 at the third fan con in Vegas, and here is a photo from that night, with Libby looking radiant, taken by

Libby was a GALSister and Mod and she will live forever in my mind and heart!  She had such a sweet way about her.  At the first convention I didn't know many GALS and Libby was one of the GALS that made me feel so welcome.   I had no idea .... recently she sent me a message to lift my spirit while I going through my trial and I just wish I had known that would be our last contact.  I wish we were all as close as we once were...always coming here to support each other, to share our joys and sorrows....maybe Libby, by your leaving us that will happen :rose:

I did not have a personal friendship with Libby but I think she must have been a great Gal.     You all seem to think so much of her.      I love what you posted, Sue - "goodbyes are not forever".

Hugs

I met Libby in Austin, TX in 2006 at a screening of Beowulf & Grendel. She was so very friendly and welcoming to everyone. There was a large group of fans from all over Texas. Some were from.net and some were from GALS, and there were a few from the old McHeathers and Gerry's Angels groups. That gathering is also how Suzie and I met. Later, in the fall of 2007,  a group of the Texas Gerry fans had a weekend in Galveston in a beach house. Here's a photo of some of us. Libby is wearing a yellow sweater.J1KR0B.jpg

Libby was indeed a very special person. She made me feel so welcome at that first convention when none of us knew one another in person. It was like finding a special friend that you had known all along. I can only imagine the loss that her family feels now. Rest in peace, Dear Libby. You made a difference to a lot of us in this world. Love to you always.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Libby's passing.  We were roomies for the 2009 Las Vegas convention and I will always remember her very warmly, as a fabulous and fun lady who will be missed.  She was a mod during the time I was an admin on this site, so we shared many an email over the years.  I had always hoped to visit her in Texas sometime since she lived near my sister, but it never happened, and now it never will.
