We've been talking about this all over the board!

I want to get my second tattoo in Vegas!

There are a few others who expressed interest as well!

And a few who are going to cheer us on!

So instead of pics and excitement everywhere else,

let's all come together and express our interest, fear,

excitement and ideas for getting tattoos in Vegas!

Here's the pic of what I am getting again!

It's going on my back, baby!

Disclaimers: I chickened out on getting a tattoo after I read a whole bunch of research on the matter. :-/ I am also not attending the convention.

If you are going to a parlor out-of-town, you don't have an opportunity to get too many personal recommendations from friends about the hygienic practices *or* the skill level of the parlor in question. I would be extremely dubious about just walking in to any old tattoo joint.

Great idea on this thread, Bethy!

I'm confident that getting a tat in Vegas is the equivalent, if not better, than getting at tat in New Orleans. (Having been born and raised in New Orleans, I can assure you getting a tat is it's own seperate "tourist" industry... most artists have sample of their work and everything is heavily regulated).

As for ME -- I'm getting a simple, small, kelly green shamrock on the top of my foot while in Vegas. I have no pictures to post. I'm bringing a "temporary tat" I got from my kids St. Patty's treat bags as my example.

I'm so excited!

Thanks Bethy, great idea this thread.

I agree it is a bit daunting to get a tat other than near home where I have personal OK's from friends (and daughter). However, it is a surprise for family and I need the support from others. So this is something I have always wanted.

As for design. I am looking at getting a cat and have decided on my ankle (although I am told it is painful ... well I've had two kids, Meh!).

So, gulp, here I go. Anyone got any ideas about a nice cat tatoo? I would love some help. Bethy, do you have any ideas?

Cat

I can work on something for you.

What kind of cat would you like?

I'm rather fond of burmese if that's a help. Gotta laugh though, cause I'm dreadfully allergic to cats LOL.

I have been looking myself but can't find anything so far. I was thinking something quite simple, elegant'ish. Thus the burmese. Unfortunately siamese have ears a titch too big.

Also it's the face I'm mostly interested in but I'm flexible.

Your help would be wonderful. Thanks ::D:

If we can get a recommendation of a good place to do it in Vegas then I'm in. I want my Celtic Sisterhood Knot tattoo, probably on my right upper arm, or my chest just below my collarbone. Nevada does have some health regulations regarding tattoo studios, but don't count on that everywhere. For instance New Mexico has NO regulations on tattoos whatsoever, and a couple of states apparently don't allow them at all (Spot - isn't Oklahoma one of those?)

I posted it on the other tattoo discussion thread but here is the basic form of the tattoo I want (this is from a keychain design), only without the outer ring.

Here is my crude version of the way it would look (the gray parts would be in black and not so jagged - I can't do very good cutouts with my photo editing program) - but it shows the sort of coloring I want it in. The purple and green represent the colors in the Scottish thistle, the turqouise represents water.

Okay,

here's a simple cat tattoo I found, if you want something simple.

This is an actual tattoo. Just amazing eyes, whiskers and nose.

I don't really like it..but that's just me.. hehe

I think I'd end up chickening out if I wait till Vegas! I have two friends around home that have both said they would go with me so I'm going to get it before June. (Ignore that clucking sound you hear!)

My mother will absolutely faint if she ever sees it! (At 42, you'd think I wouldn't care anymore!!!) I'll have to bribe my kids to make them keep their yaps shut!

But I'll be happy to go along as moral support!

TW - a friend of mine just got her third tattoo on her ankle and she said it did hurt but it's worth it. Can't wait to see all the new tats!

I'm curious about the prices there since they are on TV and they are also located in the celebrity hangout of Vegas, The Palms. The Palms is actually a fair distance from the Sahara, but you can get there by taking the monorail to the Flamingo and then taking the shuttle to the Rio. It is kitty-corner from the Rio, on the other side of the freeway from "The Strip". The place does look very clean, but after you watch the show and see the crazy lives of the people that work there you have to wonder if you would trust them to ink you. I might see if there is a way to contact them in advance to find out pricing and whether or not we could get a group appointment.

I called the place in the Palms. Left a message and actually got a call back. There is a "stable" of about 20+ "artists." They are open from 11a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Explained "convention" -- group of hens wanting to get inked, etc. Absolutely no appointments -- all business is done on a walk-in basis. Prices vary by detail and artists ... she wouldn't give any ranges of any kind.

Susan, that looks lovely. On the chest huh, where Gerry signed???

Later ladies,

Actually I'm pretty sure I want it on the right side, not the left (Gerry signed on the left side) and definitely higher up, I'm leaning towards the upper arm rather than the chest. I'm also doing some modifications (possibly) - I may remove the small double heart at the top and replace it with a Scottish thistle, that's something I'll work on tonight to see how it looks.

So, when is everyone thinking of having this done? Thursday night? Friday morning? Just wondering. So far there are 5 of us who have said we want to get one.

My little seahorse tat was $150, and that was done locally at a small studio, nothing glitzy. I'm thinking at H&H to get the Celtic Knot done, which is close in size and number of colors/details to the seahorse I might have to spend twice that. I might also just get the basic black done, with a little green and purple thistle at the top, then I could have the rest of the colors added by my local guy later. That would probably make it less expensive.

discoveringme - I am 51 and still haven't shown either of my parents the tat I got last year, and if I can keep it from them forever I will.

Bethy, I like that 2nd one best. Maybe we could work something around that.

I am 54 and this will be my first tatt. I have been wanting to do this for 40 years and with your support will finally get it done. I am guessing it will cost but it will be worth it. It will also have special memories having it done with you guys.

Susan: I think that celtic knot will look great on your shoulder. Funny though, if my mum was still alive I would still worry about her seeing it. I can even hear her in my head saying things about being stupid and childish LOL.

Discover: hey, if you're getting one, that's not chickening out. We do what we must.

Tiff: I have noted that most tattoo artists I've seen ( and I have been checking them out around here) appear a bit weird. I guess it's the same in the USA as in Australia.

Catch you all later

Now I'm driving myself nuts about what design I want. I do still like the Celtic Sisterhood Knot, especially what it means, but it is fairly complex and may take some time and $$ to get it done. I originally wanted a Scottish thistle design and I found several of those that would make good tattoos. One in particular I like because it has a claddagh at the top (which stands for friendship, love and loyalty). There is also a really cool Celtic Tree of Life that I like a lot. I've loaded some of the images into Photobucket and would like opinions. Most are just black, but I would do them in the black outline with purple and green. One is all red but I would do the heart in black and the thistle in green and purple. The sisterhood knot is still in the running, I'm just considering others as well.

Potential tattoo designs

You know something I only just realized (sometimes I am reallllly slow)...I do have a connection to Scotland (sort of) - I was raised in a town called Scotia....which means Scotland!

Hello girlies!

Ok - first of all, you all are BRAVE! I'm absolutely going to chicken out...but I'll come and support and hold hands or hair or whatever!!!

Secondly...Susan...why don't you try to do a design incorporating the sisterhood knot and the thistle? You could have an artist work on it for you in advance...but the upper arms of the knot could easily be the thistle leaves, and the flower could be in the center...

But I do love the Celtic stuff and the thistle. I was considering getting one awhile back, and if I ever did it'd be something Celtic, something Scottish, and something theater all tied in together. Can't really figure out how that would work, and I certainly don't have the guts to do it now, since I don't even have one yet, but still...

Cool beans!

Thanks Jen and Cat - I am going to work on incorporating the thistle into the sisterhood knot (my first idea) and then asking a girl in my office who is artistic if she can draw it out for me. I too like that one you mentioned, TW, that is the Celtic Tree of Life design.

Hey Gals

Jill ~ honey you are getting your 2nd in vegas for sure if not the first!

Susan ~ I love the first design and the 4th in your listing. Out of all of them the first would be for me I love the black look of it with the tinges of colour, they are beautiful.

I do love the Claddagh idea , I used to have a ring but it's gone this long time, i do still have a necklace my dad got me as a surprise one christmas, then meaning of the symbol has always held my interest.

thanks for the info, my last tat cost 70punts which would be about $100 i suppose. I'm thinking the new one will be between $130-180 depending on the prices in vegas, you never can tell!!

Just found this thread today.

We GALS must all think alike. I've been wanting a tattoo since I was a child but haven't got one because I couldn't decide on what I wanted.

Well I found a pendant, similar to the ones Susan posted and I knew immeditely!!! Now I find this thread and it's settled.

I can't join you in Vegas, but I will join you in getting marked as a Butler GAL. I'm getting a tattoo on my lower back, very similar to the thistle-claddagh design posted only mine is enclosed in a heart with a crown on the top.

I also want a seahorse on my right ankle, and then a bat on my left ankle, and intend to work my way through all my favorite Gerard movies.

I shall become Gerard's tattooed woman!!!!
