Katelyn D
empty forum-had to out SOMETHING in here! Dear Frankie-probably one of his best roles--anyone with me?
Abrock
Oh, I think it IS his best role. I love love love this film. Love it. LOVE IT. Did I mention....? Normally, in the past, I'll see a film, love it, then make one of its actors my favorite. This time, it happened the other way around. I dubbed Gerry my favorite actor after seeing Phantom and a few other things. THEN I saw DF, shortly after naming it my favorite. Hooray for having my favorite move starring my favorite actor! :loch:
luvphantom
I think the same, its beside POTO his best movie so far and his best role. And I'm eternally grateful for knowing about Gerry, because without this I would not have taken notice of that beautiful gem of a film.
Abrock
Amen to THAT. I never would have seen it, because it was so poorly publicized.
Carimia
LOVED this film and Gerry's performance was perfect! I watched it three times as soon as I got the DVD. I had never heard of the film before I joined GB.net. I loaned the DVD to my daughter and can't wait to get it bacl so I can watch it again. As for it being my favorite..Yes now it is. I am really looking forward to Beowulf! Carrie

potofiend
Over on a POTO (where we also talk about a million other random things, and consiquently, Gerry) there's a great conversation going on about DF. Here's a link, if anyone's interested: http://boards3.warnerbros.com/wbol/thread....art=50&tstart=0 There's alot to go through, but it's a good read if you're in the mood for deep thoughts-other than lustful ones, that is. :meeting: Oh, and FYI, over there I'm mooky10. Susan~Sporran
Abrock- that is exactly what happened to me. I now list Dear Frankie as my favorite movie of all time. When I wrote Gerry a **gasp** fan letter I told him that as much as I adore POTO and all its glory, I believe the true purpose of that film in my life was to lead me to see Dear Frankie. If not for having found Gerry in POTO and then GB.net I never would have heard of or noticed Dear Frankie (I confess I don't go to many art house movies, though I will more now). Because I was interested in Gerry I saw DF and fell in love with everything about it. I can watch it over and over and over (even more than I can POTO). I posted elsewhere that for me it is like watching a piece of art, though this one is cinematic. It's interesting how Shona had a particular style of Scottish art in mind when developing the look for the movie, that makes it visually amazing, while Gerry and Emily, Jack and Sharon and Mary make it emotionally amazing. Perrin
I'm going to vent on how much I hate Amazon.com right now. I thought I'd buy the dvd at the store when it came out, but surprise no copies, so I ordered it from Amazon the same day and still nothing! It's been 11 days and it's still not shipped! I should have done next day mail instead of regular, but it seems pointless now since I've waited so long already. ARGHHHHHHHH! Sorry I just needed to get that out. They're usually very good with shipments I usually get stuff within 5 days or less.
Texas Lassie
Hey, I found this today at gb.net and had not seen it before. It's a DF interview with Gerry by some station in Arizona. It's precious - he opens up about some things. It's pretty good, as always. http://www.azfamily.com/cgi-bin/video/wmPl...vsect=hollywood Texas Lassie
Susan~Sporran
Perrin - it may be too late, and maybe by now you've gotten yours from Amazon, but on Saturday I was at the Sherman Oaks Galleria and they did have Dear Frankie at Tower Records there - on sale for $19.99. I only found 4 copies (2 were in the alphabetical listings and 2 were on the sale rack), but they might have had more. There were none on the New Releases rack which is the first place I looked for it.
Perrin
Sorry, but I need to vent again. Something or someone does not want me to watch this movie. My dvd was to have been delivered on the 20th, it was confirmed to be delivered, but nothing. It's lost somewhere in the mail. I also ordered Dracula 2000 with it, so I'm extra :hissy: . It is very sad, beautiful, dramatic, well crafted and IT HAS A GERRY IN IT! Im so glad that I am a Gerry fan or i would not have noticed it. Unfortunatley only out for rental at this time. I beleive it will be for sale in the new year. Im really sick of waiting to buy it .
The Phantom of the Opera
I have a question: I don't understand the part when Lizzie goes in the bar and then leaves and cries. I do not understand that at all. Can someone explain it to me??? :|

I do not understand that at all. Can someone explain it to me??? :| <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The barmaid says to her something like: "I hope you are not working tonight" implying that Lizzie is a prostitute, which probably makes Lizzie realize what she is actually trying to do. And of course nobody could be further off being a prostitute than Lizzie. I hope you get the idea of what I want to say.

jomas_45
I think it also might be that she was looking for a substitute father in the pub, but she couldn't see any decent guys there, and was feeling quite threatened. When she realised she wasn't going to find "him" in there, she ran and was crying because she had failed Frankie. It probably was the prostitute thing as well, but she'd probably realised what a foolish thing she'd done and that she'd have to tell Frankie the truth... or something like it. horserider
I JUST saw Dear Frankie on Spet. 6. I NEVER (and I repeat NEVER) cry at movies. (Well, except for the Saddle Club first movie. When they put Cobalt down, I was BAWLING.) But Dear Frankie had me teary. luvphantom
I just watched Dear Frankie again, after about 3 weeks. I wonder how many times I'm going to fall in love with the Stranger - again - and with Gerry playing him. These little looks and movements he has, his expressive eyes and that devastating smile. - thud I think I'm feeling very vanilla today. Watching the deleted dance scene made my stomach do strange flip flops, and even more when Lizzie is caressing with her thumb the Strangers neck. Sarah
I just watched the extras. I am REALLY wishing that Simon would sit down and watch this movie with me. I think that as a Dad, he would get alot out of it. He is just so bloody stubborn, and I really think he is missing out on an incredibly touching movie. Butlerized
I'm just waiting (hoping, really!) for the Director's Cut version to come out.....with The Dance the way it SHOULD be! Oh my, that scene takes my breath away every time I see it.....and I do, often!
LeslieDcup
Megered Threads-Dear Frankie-question... I finally saw Dear Frankie this weekend. Loved it, despite there not being ENOUGH Gerry in it! I have a question and want to see what some of you think: Where or when do you think Frankie realized that The Stranger wasn't his real father? Do you think he knew it all along, that his mother was the one writing the letters? Or do you think he only realized it at the end when she said his father had died? I only saw the movie once and maybe with the accent, I missed the part of Frankie's letter where he explains it. Anyway, Gerry is his usual GORGEOUS, SEXY, SENSITIVE self in this movie. ....sigh... :mopboystranger:
