Meet the Staff TouchmetrustmeModerator Libby Lea is a compassionate, funny, and good hearted GAL from Texas, who stumbled upon Gerry Butler the same way many of Gerry's fans first discovered him. After a long season of emotional loss and struggles with health, just when she thought life had become an unbearable bore, with no more adventures awaiting this *single by choice* Grandma and mother of 3..... along came Andrew Lloyd Webber's film version of Phantom of the Opera.... and Libby was smitten by a dashing figure in a white half-mask. Falling under his spell, Libby soon found to her delight, that even in her mid-50's, there were more adventures to had. The handsome masked man in the corridor, as Libby would find through her search on the internet, was Scottish actor Gerard Butler. Her discovery of this hulking green-eyed Scot, soon led to his on-line fan communities, where she became a permanent and welcome member on GBGALS, and where she now serves as a Moderator. Of her experiences since discovering Gerry Butler and GALS, Libby says, "Pretty much I was just existing, but not really living until Gerry stirred something within me. I first saw him in POTO and thought, 'I don't know who this guy is, but he deserves an Oscar for best facial expressions.' Then I looked him up online and watched everything he had done to that point and was more intrigued. When I saw his Leno appearances, I was hooked - hook, line and sinker. Since I have 2 sons near Gerry's age (one older and one younger), I worry about some of the emotions I feel for him. I try to convince myself that I support him because he is such a terrific and versitile actor with a brilliant personality, and that is all true. But I can't deny that he is one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen, too. Plus my life has been even more enriched by the friends I have made, in a round about way, through Gerry Butler - when I discovered GALS." Libby is a proud mom and grandmother to 2 sons, 1 daughter, and 4 grandchildren, who unfortunately live outside her area. Visits are few and far between, but she describes her family as her joy, and does all she can to encourage and protect her loved ones. Libby makes a home with her mother, whom she has cared for over the past several years. Until recently, Libby's passion was collecting, buying and selling antiques, but her current living situation, and her mother's ill health, have limited her ability to enjoy the estate sales she once conducted. Growing up, Libby dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but like many young people, she was side-tracked, and failed to graduate with her class. Lacking a high school diploma, through determination and hard work, Libby studied and received her GED in her mid 30's. While raising her children and managing a home, Libby attended college, making the Dean's list every semester; Phi Theta Kappa.... surprising herself, and eventually finding satisfaction in her chosen career. Employed as a medical technologist, Libby has worked in hospital laboratories since the late 1980's. With her devout Christian faith as her primary motivator, despite many challenges and set-backs, Libby is inherently optimistic, and always makes an effort to see the best in people. Known for her warm smile and engaging personality, Libby is very special to all those who know and love her. At this stage of her life, this Texas GAL is celebrating a second chance to explore new adventures, and she tells anyone who will listen, that Gerry Butler's shining aura, brightens her outlook and reminds her that life can still be fun. |
